What reason did you pick your Home Resort?

Can you describe VWL at x-mas time? Pleas.
Thank you. That might be the scale tipper.:crazy2:

Hi!!! Have you searched the VWL lovers thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1283264

Granny posted a picture of his window/balcony decorated for Christmas, that's in post 410, there's more of Granny's pictures in 361, and #279 has the elevator. There are lots of pictures in the thread from the WL/VWL in general...if I find more specific VWL/WL Christmas pictures, I'll post...maybe someone else knows exactly where they are.

I must say that BWV had an excellent Christmastime theme this year, and there were often groups singing on the Village Green. That's where we spent our December visit this past year.

Purely practical reason on our part: HH was the least expensive resort being offered at the time. We didn't anticipate EVER planning a vacation as far out as 7 months (although I've done it twice now), so Home Resort advantage didn't really exist in our minds at the time.

We bought a HH resale from the Timeshare Store. Our reasoning being - it would be harder to get into HH during the summer, than say - getting into a resort at DisneyWorld during Christmas - if you didn't care where you stayed. Plus the price was right.

We added on a year later when BWV when more points became available there.

We looked at OKW (called the "Disney Vactaion Club" at the time) in the early 1990s when it was the only resort and did not care for it (we are not the "home away from home" types). We bought at BWV shortly after it opened (when it was the only other WDW DVC resort) because it was what we were looking for: we could have a 2BR at a full service hotel (we order daily maid service, always use valet, use laundry service, often use room service, and in almost 11 years we have never cooked in the room and the refrigator is used mainly for what it was invented for -- beer and drink mixes and leaving some room for kids drinks), easy access to two parks and about 20 restaurants (at Epcot, MGM and Epcot hotels), a good pool, and nighttime activities available right there.

First reason, location, we own at BCV and thought it would be nice to be able to walk to Epcot, plus, it's also close the the BW area. Second reason, the pool area, heard it was the best pool at Disney. We haven't stayed there yet but can't wait till our first trip home.

We bought into SSR about 3 years ago because it just happened to be the the one that Disney was selling at the time! As it turned out we get the full 50 years which can not be said for some of the older resorts! We have yet to stay at SSR. We have stayed at OKW twice and later in the year we will be staying at BWV.

When we were first looking we loved BWV but they were selling VWL which we didnt like (sorry VWL lovers) so we didnt buy. Next time we went BCV were selling so it worked out perfect for us to buy there.

We bought at BCV because that was what was selling!:lmao: But our favorite place to stay is VWL and we end up going in the summer as we are both teachers! We've never had a problem staying there. Just added on at AKV.

I was tempted to buy into "Disney Vacation Club" (the original name for Old Key West), but decided to wait a while . . . not really sure why, that is, until I stayed at the Boardwalk one vacation. I fell in love with the place as well as its location. The proximity to EPCOT, my favorite, and MGM was really desirable, as well all the activity/entertainment that the Boardwalk itself provides.

Because of the area, I bought a further add-on at BCV, but while the Beach Club is nice, I liked "the other side of the lake" and eventually sold my Beach Club position and purchased more Boardwalk on resale.

For me, waiting gave me that place that I really wanted to stay.

And now I'm waiting again.

As nice as the Animal Kingdom Lodge is, I am sitting, waiting, biding my time, biting my fingernails and chewing my knuckles for the evental sale of a place at the Contemporary.

To have a place at EPCOT -AND- a place at the Magic Kingdom, well, that's about as close to heaven as one can get on earth! :)

I bought at BCv out of pure luck and am very happy with it. But it really was just luck, if I had bought the first time I went on the tour, I'd have bought at VWL. I also did an add on at OKW (through the Timeshare Store) because of price and I only wanted 70 points.

We bought OKW because that was the only DVC resort at the time, and it was instantly our favorite as soon as we stayed there. We added on at SSR because that was the only additional DVC resort that we liked well enough to own at. The extra years was a bonus. CRV and GCV will change that since we plan on adding on there as soon as they become available.

Theme and theming.
I draw a distinction because the "theming" is how well the "theme" is carried out.
VWL has them both, right down to a tee. That's also why we chose AKV. We expect the same quality of theme & theming there, and from the room pics so far, DVC has delivered.

We also own points at VB. That is mostly for the beach, and it's also a nice primer for WDW. We also love the design of the Vero Beach Resort. :thumbsup2

It's just so warm and homey feeling with the big fireplace, the huge tree, and the logs. Kind of reminds me of home. ;)

With this info and doing MMCP twice this trip I might turn into Santa Clause.:thumbsup2

VB - We bought a resale there after staying with friends in a Beach Cottage.
We always go at either Easter or 4th of July so we need home advantage. Even if we skip WDW over the years, we will always go to Vero. We have used our VB points a few times on-site with the expectation that we would have a room somewhere. However, after awhile, we couldn't part with our VB points so we added on at OKW.

OKW - love the size of the accomodations, homey feel, lower points

We also really love BCV and WL and have used our points to stay there as well.

The extra years was a pretty big factor, but we loved the location of SSR with Downtown Disney being so close. It will be nice to be within a short walk to shopping, food & other attractions without having to pay for theme park tickets when we decide to stop in for a weekend. We also really like being close to the DTD busses so we do not have to be rerouted if we have dinner reservations at another resort. From some of the SSR owner threads I have read, that ended up being an extra benefit that they didn't think about when they originally bought in. They are all nice though, we would have been happy with any of them. :)

For DH and I it was the remote nature of both resorts, mixed with the theming and atmosphere, and seeing as we are fairly young the extra time didn't hurt.
