What plan are you having success with?

Hello All, I am pretty new here. I have been reading all of the various threads and was so excited to find a place where health and well being are important.
For the last year I have been attempting to lose weight with zero success. I exercise fairly consistantly. Eat pretty healthy but something just isn't clicking for me. I have about 100lbs to get rid of and I am at the point where I am super serious and ready to do what it takes. If you have had success getting some weight off could you please tell me what you are doing? I really need some ideas on how to get this weight off.
Thanks!!!

I am a STRONG believer in Weight Watchers! It WORKS! If you follow the plan, you will lose weight. I had done it in the past and I just recently watched my sister - after a baby - lose 46 pounds! She motivated me to get back on track and I have lost 10 pounds so far. It's worth looking into!

I have found that journalling has been the most effective way to keep myself accountable. I am not on a particular plan, have increased my exercise (from nothing to about 30-50 min 5 days/week) and reduced my calorie intake (12-1300 cal), but I have found when you record everything you put in your mouth and every bit of exercise you do you realize what you are doing to your body. I use a membership based website called FitnessJournal, but I know there are free ones like sparkpeople, and I believe that Weight Watchers has an online program too. I log my workouts, my food consumed, and even take advantage of the writing journal available to document my weak moments and successes! I have lost 20 pounds in 3 months.
As I have gotten older it is not as easy to lose weight as it was before, so like I said holding myself accountable has been the key to my success.

Regardless of what you choose to do, Good Luck!

Thanks LadyDi13-Funny you should mention that. You are one of several people this week to tell me just to journal and count calories. Thanks for your help!:thumbsup2

It's a matter of figuring out what works for you. Don't be afraid to keep trying until you find out what works for you.

I am a big fan of sparkpeople.com. It is free and you can track your caloric intake as well as calories burned.

I'm on track to be down a total of 50 pounds by the end of the year. Granted it's taken almost two years to get there but any year that I end up lighter than the year before I consider to be a success.

You are welcome to join us on the Biggest Loser Challenge thread. It's never to late to join a BL challenge. There are still about eight weeks left.

Good luck! You can do it! :flower3:

You are so kind to invite me into the challenge. My problem is that for the last year I have tried many different things without much success. I have looked at Sparks People but, and I know I sound really stupid saying this, but I just don't quite understand how it works. Congrats on your weight loss, that is amazing!!!!
BTW-can I please ask what the Moose icon in your sig means?

Thanks so much!!!

Nope, doesn't sound stupid at all, there is a lot of information on sparkpeople and it can be overwhelming. There is probably a tutorial somewhere on the site. My id on sparkpeople is 1313harbor (Disneyland's address). You have to sign in to track your calories. When you go through the sign in process it will ask you to set a goal and give you a calorie range to help you meet your goal. It won't let you set a goal that is too ambitious -- i.e. more than 1 to 2 pounds a week lost. I like the menu suggestions because they will have you eating more food than you would think of yourself because they go heavy on the fruits and vegetables whereas when I am left on my own I tend to pick calorie dense food that doesn't leave me satisfied for long.

There is also livestrong.com, mypyramid.gov and other sites that might work for you. It's all boils down to burning more calories than you take in consistently. Remember it takes time to figure out what works for you and even things that work may not always work. We are all a work in progress! :hippie:

My moose is the symbol for the Villas at Wilderness Lodge Groupies. Thanks for asking!

LisaH, thank you for all of that information. I will check sparks people out again! About the moose-we are in the process of figuring out where to stay when we go to DW but the Villas at Wilderness Lodge is first on our list so far:)
Thank again for being so helpful!!

I agree with the others that you need to find whatever works for you. To answer your original question, though, I've been doing the South Beach diet and I've been having good results with that. HTH!

Lisa S-Thanks for taking the time to add your info. I have a question about the South Beach Diet. I tried it last year because I am pretty certain that carbs and I don't do well together. But, during the first week I got such a terrible headache. Did you encounter that as well?

Thanks!!

Actually I didn't have a problem with headaches. . .but I also didn't give up caffeine (had to have my diet soda once a day)! I was VERY hungry for the first three days, though - I'm sure that I almost OD'd on raw veggies - LOL. Once I got past those first few days I did well. I find that the key for me is planning - as long as I have my meals planned out and do my grocery shopping based on preparing those meals I can follow it with no trouble. Good luck with whatever plan you choose. :goodvibes

I re-joined Weight Watchers 7 weeks ago and am down 7.8 pounds. 4 weeks into WW I gained a total of 2.4 pounds in two weeks, thanks to "mother nature". About 2 weeks ago I also joined My Fitness Pal.com, which I found here. Its free and very similar to Spark People, but I find it soo soo easy to use. I find that I am following My Fitness a little bit more than WW and lost 2.2 pounds last week.

I still go to the WW for the accountability and weigh-ins, but really like My Fitness Pal.
