What Pedometer do you like best?

I would love to hear about your favorite pedometer as I'm looking to purchase one.

Preferrably a type that I can strap around my ankle (and wrist?). One that tallys up in miles & kilometers. Plus counts steps and how long I have been walking for.

Is that possible, or am I asking for too much?

Do you have an iPod or iPod Touch? If so, you can use the Nike+ system. I have had it for 3 years and love it. It tracks steps, calories burned, time spent, etc.

My wife got a FitBit and it really kicked off a nice period of weight loss. It's much more than a pedometer and it's much more accurate too. It was really helpful for her to keep track of calories burned and calories consumed in the same place.

I have an iPod 3rd generation, and my daughter has the 4th. How does it work? Do I need a special running shoe? Does the iPod come with me while I'm walking?

I will look that one up as well. Thanks!

With the iPod, you buy the sensor and attachment. The attachment goes in the bottom of the iPod (where you plug it in to charge) and the sensor goes on your shoe. If you happen to have Nike+ shoes, it goes in the left sole from the inside. If you don't have those sneakers, you can buy a plastic piece that puts the sensor on your laces. It works great and tells you a lot. The sensor and attachment run $30.

That sounds intriguing. Thanks for the information. I will look up more details on it.

You're welcome. You can find the sensors and attachment near the iPods in Target. The shoe holders would probably need to be ordered. I have never seen them in a store. My husband has one that he got for $4 or so.

My DH bought me a fitbit in January. I love it. Just clip it on my pants every day and it tallys steps, calories burned, flights of stairs, miles, and then I can keep track of my calorie intake online. The battery lasts a very long time between charges--days. I wear it to bed at night and it also tracks sleep efficiency and if/when/how long you've been awakened during the night. It also shows online how "active" you were at different periods during the day. I love it!
