Not ROFR thread - general discussion

Amy, I just wanted to quickly share how differently other people may view this by sharing my own experience. I LOVE the show and was surprised to read the comment because I actually have the exact opposite perspective. I actually told my husband the other day how I always think your insights are so interesting and entertaining and how I wish we got to hear more from you.

Now, I am a woman married to a guy who can talk for a LONG time seemingly without taking a breath. So, I often will chime in with my own thoughts in the middle of one of his monologues and will then subsequently hear complaints of how I interrupt SO much 😆 I am also a professional woman and have had similarish experiences in the workplace. So, all just to say, different people will have different reactions always and I agree with @AstroBlasters, please keep being you!

I also know I’m like a week late to this thread so sorry for the late reply. I just had such a different reaction that I had to share.
Awww thank you. You’re so sweet.

I'd say you should interject more! You give a good balance and perspective. Sometimes the guys ramble, as is okay to do of course in that setting, and I often think we could use to hear from you more at that point.

Maybe when the time is right to fill Panda's spot there might be another women to join in and balance the panel a bit more.

Either way, keep the show going! We enjoyed meeting you and Paul at a DHS Moonlight Magic this year. And yes, we now eat that pizza too.
So nice to meet you too. :) Glad you like the pizza, haha.

Never said I didn’t enjoy her perspective or value her input on the show. Ever. She’s very nice and a vital part of the show. It was a simple point that it’s hard to listen to a podcast when people interrupt each other in the middle of a person making a point. Nothing to do with her being a woman or any of that nonsense. And the last show on this $500 nonsense and the new point charts was great.

But it’s interesting how you didn’t point out that Jeff is the one who is CONSTANTLY interrupting with his opinion. Which, once again, I am 100% on board with because that’s how people would actually act if they were just hanging out and talking with their friend group.

Pointing out that a female is doing it while completely ignoring that a male is doing it comes off as “sit there and smile and let the boys talk unless you’re called upon”.

I don’t want to get into details to prove a point because it will come across as picking on Amy which is not what I want to do. But the perception of my comment is more “ink blot test” than reality in that it’s just showing how you subjectively perceive the world.

Do you see that didn’t address the point about only pointing out Amy and not mentioning Jeff….You’re just trying to double down on Amy….

I’ll drop it after this, but the issue has nothing to do with how I subjectivity see the world.

I do see that - because I don’t want to pick on anyone (or “double down” on anyone) in replying to you. Let’s just get back to getting news from the meetings.

I know we are all moving on, but I’m just getting back to this thread and just wanted to say that my comment wasn’t intended to be targeted at you. Super sorry if it came across that way! I just have a different reaction and wanted to share it. It wasn’t meant to be critical of your comment or you and sorry if it came across that way.

Ever get cold feet on selling a contract? I’m supposed to sell two contracts. One I’m happy to let go. The second is a mini contract, and with the new $500 fee…well, I can see it being useful to hang onto since I’ll probably end up eventually buying another mini contract in the future because it could be useful for point eaters like an Aulani 2 br in the offseason.

I would feel bad for the buyers though. And I assume I’d get blacklisted from that sales site. So I probably will just sell it after all.😢

Doh't solve a problem you don't have yet. If you need more points later, deal with it then. Over the long run, I do not expect resale contracts to increase in constant-dollar terms, for a whole host of reasons. And even if they do, so what?
You're probably right on this. My math on my decision to buy direct was pretty rock solid for number of points. And I just reran it. And really....I really can make this number of points work for me, because I thought my plans through many times and ran the numbers. And they are correct for now. There may need to be post-2042 changes, but this definitely will work for my needs for now unless I start exclusively going during high point seasons (possible, with kids in school...but I think I can squeeze an Aulani trip in with my kids in January still and only miss 3 days of school).

What made you sell your resale and buy direct? Did you buy Poly or Riv and why? Do you have a lot of other resale?

Sorry to bombard with questions, I am interested in your choice because I have considered doing it myself but I havent researched enough about the hit ill take for doing so.

The one I would choose to convert would be my blt which would only cause a 10 point loss, but I hesitate because I feel I need more points to keep up this one bedroom twice a year shenanigan 🤣

The Welcome Home Weeks pricing finally hit the spot where I felt it was justifiable, and I saw the posts about renting in here and felt maybe I was carrying a few too many points anyway and didn’t want to be in a situation where I had to rent them. It seemed overall a good time to decrease my SAP resale points resale into direct points, and plan for benefits down the road. 45 points were dropped in the process. I wanted the option to buy less expensive passes, I liked the MMB one time use BOGO offer, and I wanted to be able to stay at Disneyland.

I was going to buy Poly. I even signed a Poly contract and backed out within ten days. Riv was never on the table for me; over half my family hates the Skyliner! We do love Epcot though.

I actually ended up buying VDH direct instead. I knew I wanted the option to stay in California at times and felt this would be my best option. Also, Florida’s surgeon general did something I found extremely disagreeable (not going into that here at all please, as it is neither the time nor the place) and I did not feel comfortable dropping $30k in direct contracts in Florida after that. I probably would have finalized my buy at Poly otherwise. But I love California too, so it will be great to have VDH as another option. Since we probably will mostly stay in the old Poly studios if we stay there, we can use our VDH points there pretty easily.

Thank you for sharing, that was a great time to buy and I feel like from here on out future welcome home weeks will be the time we see the best deals aside from some unexpected closeout sale or hotel conversion if that ever happens again!

It does make the direct pill easier to swallow when your more than halfway paid. VDH is also a motivator for me in the sense that I think its a fun resort and since I love Disney ip it is very "Disney." Since I live so close I would like that option for shorter stays. If it wasnt for ToT I think I would seriously consider going that route especially since I think the one bedrooms are beautiful!

If some mega sale comes like the vgf I could see me potentially flipping some resale. Im not holding my breath tho. I do think I need more points. I only have enough to do one 1 bedroom trip next year and a short studio stay and that is bothering me.

I understand about the FL thing im not too happy with them right now seeing im so sick and there seems to be a real disregard for spreading germs 🤣🤣

Do you have a lot of other resale?
Just noticed I missed this question. No, I have 100 points at Beach Club as my only resale now. We travel once per year usually and like to travel in low point winter seasons, and I anticipate staying in 2 bedroom 2042 locations about 2 out of 3 years (bringing along grandparents), and then a 3 bed studio (just the immediate family or a trip with the spouse) the 3rd year most of the time. Surprisingly this plan doesn’t require a ton of points!

As for the comment about getting Sorcerer passes above: I can likely do BCV 2 bedroom over spring break one year, and a January trip the next to get two visits with one pass. Or if that won’t work, we can do the MMB discounted day passes. Then the next year we do VDH or a studio or something. Spring break trips will only occur because I do want to minimize pulling my kids out of school most years, but it isn’t when I like to travel.

Most of the time I won’t need much more than the annual one time use points to pull this plan off. With banking, borrowing, staying 6 nights instead of 7 sometimes, and skipping a year every ten years or so (sometimes life happens?) you don’t really need a ton of points for this. You DO have to meticulously plan. Thankfully I LOVE meticulously planning.
