What part of Contemporary is being used for SOG?

I have been reading that SOG is using the Contemporary these days. How long is that to last, and what part of the Contemporary is being used? We really like the north wing, and hope to stay there in June. Does anyone know if that will be possible, or is it all taken up by our service men and women? If it is, that is great for them, and they certainly deserve it, but I hope they can spare one room for my non-military family. :)

The North Wing is being used by SoG. I hear they have the whole wing reserved, but not too sure about that.

We made resevation through SoG and were placed in the North Wing for May 2003. According to the SoG website they are scheduled to reopen in "Winter 2003." Don't know if the have the entire North Wing.

We loved staying at SoG (large rooms and very quiet/peacful) but are really looking forward to staying at the CR for the first time, especially at SoG prices!

The most recent information that I have is that SoG will open in "Mid-December".
We're booked at the CR for early December, but they anticipate being open in time for the Holidays.

Hope this helps.........

I'm sure I had heard that some of the rooms at the North Wing were still reserved for other guests. But that was around the time we went, last April. It would certainly be worth calling and asking about though.

SoG began accepting ressies for the "new" Shades of Green December 9, 2002. Since you can book 53 weeks in advance, this leads me to believe that they will reopen for good on December 16, 2003.

If I remember correctly, SoG was only allowed to contract at the CR for the number of rooms they had at the original resort (298, I think). I can't remember exact numbers, but I think that left a few rooms open in the NGW for nonmilitary guests.

Maybe I didn't really answer your question at all, lol. Hope it helps somewhat!

We were there in Nov, not with Shades of Green. When I made my reservation, the CM I spoke with was very helpful, and assured me that Shades of Green had most of the North Wing, with the exception of most of the rooms in the first wing, especially the first floor. She noted on my reservation that we were to be in the NGW, first section, and even listed the room numbers available. She assured me this would not cause a problem, these rooms were NOT SOG rooms. I faxed down my requests, but when we arrived - the CM was very friendly, and nice to my girls, giving them treats and crayons, magazines, etc. He then started printing out keys - DH asked where we would be located before he got to far, and he said "You've made your requests - you're all set." Then he pulled out the map, and pointed out our room in the South Wing- 1st floor - all the way down near the lagoon - NOT AT ALL what we requested. When we said we didn't want this room - it wasn't what we requested - South Wing is smoking, and DH is a severe asthmatic, we told him we had been assured that we could have a NGW room. He insisted it was full due to Shades of Green- and when I reminded him that SOG didn't have the whole building, he said that once people check in, they can keep that room for a full month if they want, even if the ressie is for one day, and they had no rooms available. We tried to ask him about upgrading to the Tower, but he disappeared out back, then printed up new keys and threw them at us, with a new map marked with a South Wing, 2nd floor room in the closer section to the Main Building marked. After being assured that it was non-smoking, we decided to check it out, and return if it smelled of smoke - it didn't, but it definitely wasn't the magical welcome we had last March.

ContemporaryGirl,

Shades of Green (SoG) is a resort owned and operated by the Department of Defense. It is available to active duty military, miltary retirees, DoD civillian employees and their families and guests. It is located in the MK resorts area very close to the Poly. It has golf courses surrounding it and has a very peaceful, quiet feel. Not much on Disney themes though it has a Mickey shaped pool. The rooms are very large and the prices are very reasonable, right around $100 per night depending on rank/grade. It used to be called the Disney Inn, I believe, and was considered a deluxe resort.

Can't wait to see what the new rooms are like, hope they are consistent in size and quality with the originals.

Thanks so much, learn something new everyday!!!!

Can you tell me what the difference is between the different wings? Also, do all the queen rooms have a daybed in them?
