A couple of years ago, DH went to the funeral of a coworker who unexpectedly commited suicide. Instead of funeral programs, the parents of the deceased handed out personally mixed CDs of their son's favorite songs.

This made me think about what music I want played at my own funeral whenever that may be.

“Defying Gravity”—Idina Menzel (WICKED soundtrack)
“Bright Side of Life”—Monty Python
“The Parting Glass”—Celtic folk song
“Bad Day”—Daniel Powter
“The Space Between”—Dave Matthews Band
“Take It Easy”—The Eagles
“Good Ride Cowboy”—Garth Brooks
“It’s My Life”—Bon Jovi
“Comfortably Numb”—Pink Floyd
“Crazy Train”—Ozzy Osbourne
“They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Ha!”-Dr. Demento
“Angel Flying To Close To The Ground”—Willie Nelson
“She Talks To Angels”—The Black Crows
“Seasons of Love”—RENT (Original Broadway Cast recording)

And I don't think I'm done with the list yet. I add a new song every..oh..every couple of months I'd say.

What songs do you want played at your funeral?

I've wanted the same 2 songs forever...
Forever Young by Alphaville
and
The Dance by Garth Brooks...

Last year..I added a new song...that I want dedicated to my kids...
My Wish by Rascall Flatts

I don't know for sure...but definitely "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Monty Python, LOL! and "On Eagles Wings" because it was played at my grandma's funeral and means a lot to me. "My Wish" is also great, and there are soooooo many more! I'd have to really think!

My Tribute- Andrae Crouch

I Can Only imagine- Mercy Me

Yeah I definately want Monty Python played at my funeral. "Bright Side of Life" is one of my favorite songs and it always cheers me up.

If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten!
And that's to smile and laugh and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps, don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing.

I want my brother Bob to get up and sing "One Bourbon, one Scotch, and one Beer" (George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers) at my funeral. :rockband:

I don't drink much, and I don't like Bourbon, Scotch, or beer, and I'm not a particularly big fan of GT and the D's, but the memories of my brother getting up and singing that song with our favorite local band back in the early 80's always cracks me up, and if he sang that, it would definitely lighten the mood. Of course, he'd have to sing at the "after party" (since singing a song like that might not be considered appropriate in a funeral parlor where there could possibly be other wakes going on at the same time).

There's no way that I'd want any serious/emotional songs be played at my funeral. :snooty:

My husband says that no matter what age he is when he dies, he wants me to play "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel. That is sure to tick his very catholic mother off but good. I hope she goes first (oh snap, did I just say that? :rotfl: )

I don't really care. Funerals are for the living - whatever helps them tell me goodbye is fine - even if it is a good riddance song. lol

I just hope you're name isn't Virginia. Are you a Catholic girl who started much too late? ;):lmao:

Garrison Keillor's Lake Woebegon Hymn

Let the Mystery Be by Iris DeMent

Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum

Knockin on Heaven's Door sung by Bob Dylan

We'll Meet Again by Vera Lynn

The Show Must Go On by Queen

It's a Wonderful Life by Louis Armstrong

and Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python

I love On Eagles Wings! It is a very good song.

"The Rodeo Song"

I'll leave a list of everyone to whom it was dedicated.

;)

I don't give a hairy ratt's butt what they play - whatever makes them happy. What the hell do I care? I'll be dead and all the problems and decisions can be handled by someone else.

Well, my name isn't Virgina (my Grandma's was, though) and I'm not Catholic but I was a total goody-goody until dh came along and corrupted me. ;)

I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints. The sinners are much more fun.

My mom LOVED Christmas, and so we played Silent Night.

I haven't thought about the songs I'd like played at mine yet.... hmmm...

I want to be cremated --- maybe Burn Baby Burn? But, maybe that will give the wrong impression, huh. Maybe I should ask Legalsea's Magic 8 Ball....

I know- mine will be Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day. I love that song! I've long planned that one for my funeral.

Wow! This would be soooo close to my list. Add Good Riddance/Time of Your Life by Green Day

and

I'd also add one hymn

"All Things Bright and Beautiful"

Refrain

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

Refrain

The purple headed mountains,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky.

Refrain

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.

Refrain

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
To gather every day.

Refrain

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

What about Come on Baby Light my Fire???? I actually hear that one at a funeral one time. I wasn't at that funeral, but I was at a showing in the next room. The guy had died in a fiery motorcycle crash so I didn't really think it was appropriate. But hey, whatever!

I have already told DH that when one of us dies I am going to play James Taylors Fire and Rain. The only problem is that now everytime I hear that song I tear up.

What songs do you want played at your funeral?

Uh is your funeral going to be 8 hours long? You have a huge play list for something that takes an hour.
