What music do you want played at your funeral?

Uh is your funeral going to be 8 hours long? You have a huge play list for something that takes an hour.

I assumed that they were going to play all the music during the showing, I never thought about it being during the actual funeral. Thats one long funeral!!

I hope no one I know reads this and opts for 20 + songs at their funeral! IMHO it is too much of a good thing. One or two songs would be memorable and hit home but after a while the mourners are just drained.

*You can't always get what you want* by The Rolling Stones

Well maybe they could play some of it during the funeral and some during the viewing. I don't know..I haven't figured that part out yet.

If I had to pick ONE song to be played during the funeral itself, it would probably be Willie Nelson's "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground", which has always been one of my favorites.

If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
And I patched up your broken wing
And hung around a while
Tried to keep your spirits up
And your fever down
I knew someday that you would fly away
For love's the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up
Than see you down
Leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground

I know I'm getting older, but I hope death is still more than a few years away. I really don't want a funeral at all and have made that very clear. I would rather people have a little party with no service and especially no religious aspects or prayers. I would like the music to be all Karen Carpenter. To make sure my wishes are carried out, I intend to be there in ghost form... BOO! ::yes::

"On Eagle's Wings"
"Wind Beneath My Wings" (it was played at my uncle's funeral and I would like it played at mine)
"Sunshine On My Shoulders"
"Good Ride Cowboy"
"It's My Life"
"Only The Good Die Young" (it was kind of the unofficial class song for my high school class)
"Tears In Heaven"
and
"I've Had The Time of My Life"

I thought about this a few years ago when a friend died and I came up with this. I want them to start off playing Highway to Hell by AC/DC, they stop it and who ever is residing over the service to read a note I have written and then start playing My Way by Frank Sinatra. I want everyone to have one last laugh on me!

I've told my DH and my mom several times that at the end of my wake, not funeral (that I would like to be religious music), I would like the music from Wishes played, or When you Wish Upon a Star, but I would highly prefer Wishes. I love this, and I firmly believe in prayers and wishes, and this music would be the perfect end, to my life.

Okay, now I"m sad!!!!;)

I don't want a funeral, I don't want to be buried, I don't want any of that. Too much money spent on something completely unnecessary in my mind. I want a memorial service and I want them to play Centerfield by John Fogerty.

My DH wants the Imperial March (Darth Vaders theme) played at his cremation service :darth:
As far as I'm aware he's still considering whether we all attend dressed as Star Wars characters........

The version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
but I love Only The Good Die Young by Billy Joel too!!

I have two that I want played.

"Into The West" by Annie Lennox

Lay down,
your sweet and weary head.
Night is falling.
You have come to journey’s end.

Sleep now, and dream
of the ones who came before.
They are calling,
from across a distant shore.

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see.
All of your fears will pass away.
Safe in my arms,
you’re only sleeping.

What can you see,
on the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea,
a pale moon rises.
The ships have come,
to carry you home.

And all will turn,
to silver glass.
A light on the water.
All souls pass.

Hope fades,
Into the world of night.
Through shadows falling,
Out of memory and time.

Don’t say,
We have come now to the end.
White shores are calling.
You and I will meet again.
And you’ll be here in my arms,
Just sleeping.

What can you see,
on the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea,
a pale moon rises.
The ships have come,
to carry you home.

And all will turn,
to silver glass.
A light on the water.
Grey ships pass
Into the West.

"When I get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck

Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going

I sang the traditional Celtic song "The Parting Glass" at my dad's funeral last month. The words were perfect for him:

"Oh, all the money that 'ere I had, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that 'ere I'd done, alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done, for want of wit to mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass. Good night and joy be with you all.

Oh, all the cam'rades that 'ere I had are sorry for my going away.
And all the sweethearts that 'ere I had would wish me one more day to stay.
But since it falls unto my lot that I should rise and you should not,
So fill to me the parting glass. Good night and joy be with you all."

The song by Miley Cyrus' great-great-granchildren.;)

Tears in Heaven
One sweet day (M Carey and Boyz/Men)
Candle in the wind

kind of  that I've even thought about this IMO

but I also specified that I wanted to be cremated with a huge picture of me smiling away.

Also have plans but haven't made the tape yet. Only oldest DD knows about this and now thousands of others ( you all)

A tape of me talking away as I always do. Telling loved ones about my favorite memories with them. Then at the end I will say and to all of you who have been evil, nasty and mean to me (meanwhile mind you I am only being taped from the chest up) I will stand up and say you can kiss my "bleep" showing my bare "bleep"

That should ease up any crying with all sorts of laughter. Just the way I want it along with giving some people my final message.
