What made you buy DVC?

Well in 2005 I took my then GF now DW for her 1st trip. We did the SSR tour and we loved it however was unsure with our then financial situation. We went back again in 2006 and at that point i started stressing to her the need to seriously consider DVC if we were going to come every year, A friend of ours, Who is a SSR owner, stopped by her work in late 2006 and talked to her as well and next thing I know she said lets do it. We bought resell and have never looked back. Just wished we had the cash back from our 3 trips prior to our purchase, Shawnpirate:

For us it was a cost comparison - DVC was a better deal than paying for two 8-day stays (one at a value, one at a delux). I also want some incentive to stay at nicer resorts. For the past few years, I kept booking rooms at deluxe resorts, then letting my incredible cheapness get the best of me and switching to Pop. One of my favorite parts of each trip is spending time at other hotels (and enjoying their various bars), and DVC seems like a great way to actually stay at a variety of hotels at no additional cost.

That, and I completely fell in love with Bay Frakking Lake.

I am huge Disney Fan. We live in Panama City a 6 hour drive away. We go several times a year. Just spent 3000 ona trip with our 2 nephews. We like to travel. And love waterslides.

We go once a year, every year, either in October or December. We have rented points 3 times, which makes a studio essentially the same price as a moderate room. However, the family is getting bigger and a one bedroom (and maybe a 2br every once in a while) makes vacationing much nicer. While we could have continued renting, the control over the points, is very important to me.

I will admit that it was a bit of the spur of the moment decision. We were having an absolutely awesome time with the family at POR and I struck up a conversation with the woman at the kiosk. Considering we are a HUGE Disney family and can see ourselves vacationing at Disney at least every other year into eternity, I decided to go on the tour. Once on the tour, it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that I would be buying without researching it any further.

I wish that I had done some more research so that I could have made a more informed decision (I probably would have bought anyway), but I am glad I did it. There are times in life when the spur of the moment decision is the right one, and I think this is it.

Several of our friends own beach houses. We aren't beach people, we are Disney people. Unfortunately, we don't have enough money to buy a house near Disney. Even if we did, I don't think we would, as we love being ON Disney property. So, with that said, this is the next best thing.

A) Love Disney World :figment:
B) Love AKL/AKV! (Fact that it was available as home resort was sweet) :simba:
C) Finally (after 5 years of # crunching) figured out that since we go at least annually, DVC makes sense for us in the long run!
C-1) Ex.: Priced out a standard room at POR for our July trip...would cost over $1000 for 5 nights!!! My MF's this year won't cost that much!!
D) Love Disney World :hmghost:
E) Because any caveats I had before buying (even after talking to my guide) were addressed here on the DISBoards!!! Made diving in much more reassuring! :disrocks:

My DW dragged me kicking and screaming with the help of our friends last year in September for our 10th anniversary. I came back singing Disney songs and loved it. One couple bought while we were there, and the other couple already owned.

They started going on great vacations. When we went we stayed at the Allstar Music VALUE resort and saw the rooms they were staying in. I got extremely Jealous and wanted to own as well.

So I waited till my wife was stricken with Strep throat and foggy from fever and called our guide and the rest is history. When the fever broke I was sent to live in the doghouse but I am back indoor and looking forward to our first trip home in late May.......:rotfl2:

Really, we did the math:teacher: and decided we would really enjoy the time together and the interest is tax deductible.:cool1: :thumbsup2

How did we become DVC members? On our second trip with DD in 1996, I tried to get a room at one of the monorail resorts. That was before knowing that a trip to Disney involves some planning and you can’t get a room at a monorail resort a couple of weeks before you leave. The CM suggested I try this place called Old Key West where they had a special rate for a 1 BR.

We booked it and as soon as we opened the door to our room, we were hooked. “Look, a full kitchen. Look at the whirlpool tub. Cool.” Of course we took the tour and on it we were told of this new DVC resort called Boardwalk. I loved the location and decided to buy there. We checked in on the first “official” day the resort opened and we signed our paperwork that day.

We have been going to Florida for many many years and always stayed with my parents for two weeks. We did off and on trips to WDW and have always loved it, we visited there on our honeymoon. When my Dad passed away my Mom decided she wasn't going to Florida for the winter anymore. So to keep the tradition of Spring Break in Florida we bought WDW packages. On the second year we took the DVC tour and knew this was how we could continue our annual trips. Now we go twice a year. :thumbsup2

Well, we took our boys for the first time in 2005, then went in 2006, and 2007..., and since we wanted to have nicer accommodations and we make the trip once a year, it made sense for us to buy DVC. So, we did during our 2007 trip, and now planning our 2nd DVC stay in November. Buying DVC is one of the best things we ever did!

We purchased after sharing ASmusic with POP Warner for 1 week;)

What made you buy DVC?

1. We are young
2. We love to travel
3. We are starting a family and Disney is a great place to take the kids
4. The multitude of options and flexibilty with the program
5. Our rental income paid for it. :)
6. And yes, Owning a piece of the mouse!

I was interested in DVC in 2007 after discovering the DIS. Then everybody I bumped into that trip kept talking to me about DVC. I took the tour, and it made sense, but I didn't buy since I wasn't planning on going back to WDW again. :scared1:

Fast forward a bit, I became hooked on Disney and started planning more trips. DVC just makes financial sense to me. This year we're taking 3 Disney trips. I just got back from one, am going in August with the kids, and going back again for NYE.

Not only that but DS 16 turns 17 on our August trip, and soon he'll be needing his own room (trust me on that one - he is NOT fun to share with! :scared: ) The cost of two rooms for about 10 days at a crack for an average of 25 days a year is a LOT less than DVC! I called my guide (from 2007) and signed a week later. :)

Since my fiance and I have been together we have gone every year. We realized we would keep doing that and when we have kids we want to make it a tradition to take our immediate family (grandparents and siblings) and our kids once a year. So we bought in early. We are so young we will enjoy this for awhile! The economy blows, every news cast is a bummer story and its kinda depressing out there right now but just thinking about our DVC memories that will be made makes me smile. I dont regret it at all! :thumbsup2

Our first Disney trip was in 1992 when the kids were about 18, 16, 8, and 6. I figured it was one of those "once in a lifetime" vacation opportunities before the kids were all grown up and gone. DH agreed to come along, although he now claims that he was dragged kicking and screaming...but he was very favorably impressed!

Fast forward to 1999 and our 25th anniversary which is in January and we HAD to go someplace warm, so we again felt the call of the mouse. But I wanted to stay in a room with a jacuzzi, and we wanted to spend some time at the beach. Being a novice with booking travel plans, we again contacted our friendly neighborhood travel agent (who used to be our daycare provider) and she set us up at Vero Beach and Old Key West. Needless to say we fell in love with both resorts and I was fascinated by the DVC concept, which I'd heard about in bits and pieces.

So when we fell into a little inheritance we did some research and found a resale contract and the rest is history! We love our DVC!:)

We went to WDW on our honeymoon in 1997. We did the DVC tour then but I decided against it because "we wouldn't be going to WDW every year." Well, lets just say that I WAS WRONG!!! We have been going at least twice every year since we have been married.

We didn't purchase DVC till 2005 because we were getting great room rates from the "codes". Heck, we were getting WL for $100 a night and then upgrading to Concierge for $20 more a night. Times had changed and we couldn't pull off those deals anymore and DH talked me into it (it didn't take much talking). I'm sooo glad he did. We just love DVC!!!

The Disboards made me do it! :thumbsup2

We heard about DVC during our Aug 2007 trip--they gave us a folder with promotional materials when we checked in but didn't really look at it. Then I overheard the sales pitch at a kiosk at the Poly ($16000 for a week's deluxe lodging every year for the next 50 years) and I thought that it sounded like a great deal but not for us since we don't go to WDW every year.

And then I found out on these boards that there are smaller retail contracts available and that with banking/borrowing we could go every other year. Without that info we would never have bought in!

I took the DVC tour alone (solo trip), and was ready to buy as soon as I thought "Own a piece of Disney? I'm so there!" Our guide convinced me that it would be cost effective, but I didn't care about the supposed big savings. When I got home, DH wasn't a Disney fanatic, but he was definitely supportive of anything that would force him to take vacations-"We might as well go, it's already paid for." He admitted to being a workaholic who needed to change. Now he's as big a DVC fan as me.

We purchased while on our honeymoon in 2000. My best friends mom was a charter member, and she had mentioned it once or twice, but I never really paid attention. Our Disneymoon was the first time I had been to WDW as an adult (I'd only gone once as a child, same for my DH). While staying at the GF for our honeymoon, we were waiting to eat lunch at the GF Cafe and my husband started talking to the CM who was at the DVC desk they have there. He thought it sounded really interesting and they scheduled a tour for the next afternoon. We met with the person who would become our guide and he explained DVC to us. We had been there for a while, and he had to meet w/ another couple so we left to grab a bite to eat and said we'd go back after we discussed it. When we got outside I looked at my DH and said "We're not doing this are we?" and much to my surprise he said "Yes we are! If you're going to want to keep coming back to Disney this is the best way for us to be able to do this." Just like that, so we went back and joined. We purchased at BWV. The next year while on our "anniversary" trip, we added another 100 points on at HHI. In 2007 we added more points at SSR, and in 2008 of course we added more on at BLT. We're addicted!

We were being priced out of being able to stay in the Deluxe resorts...actually, we'd gone from Deluxe down to Moderates and were considering Values. We weren't happy with that thought tho so we decided buying DVC would keep us in the type of accomodations we wanted. We'd thought about it back when they first started selling SSR at pre-opening prices but we'd just bought our house and thought we should wait. Funny how the CRO rooms went up in just a few years...just pricing out a trip in the Values was enough to get us to call and buy over the phone before we went again!!!
