We are definetly pro back-pack leash. Different children need different things. DS11 never needed one, he would always stay by my side no matter what (still does), DS4 is a wild man and will bolt at the first opportunity. DS2 has non-verbal autism and does not respond to his name when called-talk about scary! To be honest, I double-dog-dare anyone to give us snide looks/rude comments for protecting our children. People need to mind their own business.

well, i am all for the leash if you have children who will run or walk away a lot. It is so easy for small children to get lost in the crowd, even in lines.

Plus, you can get some GREAT pictures!! This one was made years ago at Hollywood studios. It's still one of my favorites!! He really was trying to get away!! She played the roll perfect too!

Hotel TV remotes are disgusting. Think of all the hands that have touched them! I make sure to pack a ziploc bag to put the TV remote in as sort of a protector from all those germs.

I also pack a small spray bottle with a drop of lavender oil in it. When I get to the resort I fill the bottle up with water and now I have lavender scented water in a spray bottle to use for getting wrinkles out of clothes, freshening up clothing for multi-day use, freshening up the hotel room, and fixing up hair.

Bath fizzies are important too! I always spend a few bucks on some nice bath fizzies with essential oils so I can sit on the edge of the tub and soak my feet after a long day of walking.

For those who can't find Body Glide locally, WalMart and Target have something called Monistat Chafing-Relief Powder/ Gel (or somesuch). It's only about 5 bucks and it is a truly miraculous product. Look for it with the other Monistat (yeast infection) stuff but it isn't used for that, honest!

My DD and my MIL both tried it and made me buy them their own!

I do the suitcase in a suitcase thing but I also pack a vacuum seal bag (the ones where you suck all the air out of to make it tiny, and a hair dryer with a reverse setting. Its small and works great when your souvenirs take up all the space for clothes. The hair dryer is great, don't remember where we found it, and takes the place of the vacuum.

I also bring my all purpose kit with needles/thread. a couple extra buttons, a small piece of velcro (for when I don't have enough time to sew), tide-2-go, chap stick (sunburn lips are the worst), and ear plugs (you never know when there will be a fireworks show ) among other 'normal' things.

Great idea with the dripping lids too!

One question though. Where do you get these??

When DD was “too big” for the “leash”, we got the bracelets for her and me that have the little squiggly bungee thing in between. That way I always knew when she got “sidetracked” so as not to keep walking while she stopped to check things out.

She loved the freedom, I loved the piece of mind.

A few years ago I got my daughters at Walmart. It was red with Elmo on the packaging. But never needed it. Went to get one for my runaway almost 2 year old a few weeks ago and couldn't find one. Got him the monkey leash. Now I see they have mickey/minnie leashes at kohls.com

Making quite a long list from all these great tips. Thank you everyone. Something I like to bring is a sippy cup strap I found at Kohls to attach the cup to the stroller. Love it for when my son wants to playing the dropping game!

i was an only child, and while i love disney, i don't particularly want to hear everything at 1000 decibels above normal helpful for rides with loud sounds, crowds, events with speakers, or when you just want to feel like you are hearing only ONE conversation (if i wear earplugs, i can still hear the people to the sides of me, but with very reduced background noise )

I have a few things that I always bring to Disney:

1)Sharpie. We always buy refillable mugs. They used to be identical. Even now that they aren't, there's still a mix-up about who's mug belongs to whom. Now, I write our initials on the bottom. Solved.

2)Palmolive Dish Wipe in a Ziplock bag. One is fine for the week. It's preloaded with soap --to clean out the aforementioned refillable mugs because we switch from coffee to soda and back again.

3)Small notebook and pencil. I scrapbook so I carry this on me everywhere and everytime we stop to eat, I jot down notes of what rides we did, things we saw, what we ate (dole whip! mickey-shaped waffles!), funny things that happened, etc. It helps me remember and the family helps write down stuff too.

4)digital thermometer. My DS got sick one year, I think he was 4, and we had to call the pediatrician back home. First question he asked was, "does he have a temp?" Well, he felt really hot but we weren't sure how high the temp was. Sometimes a high temp means you have to go to the ER, which we did to be on the safe side, His was high and we just wouldn't have known the difference between a 101 temp and a 103 temp by touch. So, every trip, we bring one in the first aid kit.

My abnormal packing items would be the noice-cancelling headphones for DD and some popcicle drip catchers. They're little disposable foam stars that fit at the botom of a popcicle/ice cream bar/anything on a stick so that the drips dont get all over your hand. Helps for the slow eaters!

Since we usually drive, we can take all kinds of unusual stuff, like our own pillows, a toaster, etc., but probably the strangest thing I bring is my bubbling/massaging foot bath. Nothing feels better after a long day in the parks!

I would SO be brigninig that if we drove!!!!!!
If WDW was smart, they'd rent those out at the resorts.

Wish we had one! DS10 broke his glasses the first day!! Lost the little screw. We ended up buying super glue and it worked a little bit.


We bring a folding stool. It's lightweight and collapses to less than 2" flat. We kept it in front of one sink for the kids. They could wash hands & brush their teeth without our help. It cost $12 and I keep it in my Disney Box.

A handy hint from someone who has worn glasses for 41 years...if youlose the screw thatholds the "arm" of the glass to the front of the glasses, a safety pin through the hinge thing holds it together until you can repair it better.

that's a great solution. we always rent a stroller - but we may skip it this year. my son is 9 so he's certainly big enough to walk around, but he's a cancer survivor (5 years off treatment in october and we're celebrating in DISNEY) and he tires more quickly than then average 9 year old. we just can't decide if we want the stroller or not. we have to get the double, too!

How about a child's wheelchair instead of a stroller?

After this past WDW trip I realized that as long as DS3 uses any type of sippy cup or straw cup that we are trying to rinse out in the room sink that we will need a bottle brush/nipple brush combo along with dishwashing liquid.

Cottenelle also makes travel size "bathroom wipes" which are handy for potty training toddlers.

I found these toppers that turn a bottle of water into a sippy cup for our twins. These were invaluable on our trips - we could buy a cold bottle of water and push one of these caps on and voila - no spills! They come with a cap to keep the spout clean. They were sold next to the sippy cups in the baby department.
