I will book our FP+ soon and I was wondering when we should book SDD? We are planning on taking a break in the afternoon so, depending on availability, I was thinking of either booking it in the morning or after dinner to ride it in the dark. I don't care about getting a 4th FP+ on our DHS day...

For those who rode it during the day and evening, when is you're favourite time of the day for SDD?

If you don't care about getting a 4th FP that day, then I'd book it for after dark sometime. I rode it in the daytime and enjoyed it, but there's just something about riding coasters at night that makes it more special to me.

At night.

We have two FP+...one for the day time and one for the evening. I'm more excited for the evening.

I rode it at RD so that it was a walk on because its not impressive enough to use a FP+ on in my opinion.
BTW don't count on a FP+ for it at all unless you're looking at like 60+4 days out or more.

I think I'm in the majority, but I hate riding it at night. It reminds me too much of Space Mountain! :scared:

ETA—Wow. I just realized I totally messed up this post! First I said majority instead of minority. Then I realized that the OP was talking about SDD. I haven’t even ridden it yet! I had SDMT on my mind. I must have been really tired!

Right now, I would prefer it during the day. You get a great view of the Star Wars Land construction. I will say that I think for SDD-- there is a lot of whenever you can get it- grab it. I wouldn't mess around with times, or it may be gone. I would grab the first one you can, and then you can go back quickly and try to modify if you want a different time. They go fast!

Booking SDD for 60+6 so I’m hoping for some choice in time of day...

We rode it at RD, late morning and mid afternoon. It was fun everytime. However, the land really comes alive at night and SDD is SO much better at night with the amazing lighting the land has.
But, I would hate to lose the ability to get more FPs during the day by using a FP for SDD at night.

Night for me as well. Love how well lit everything is on SDD.

On a side note: I'm fascinated by language and find it very interesting how some words in Canada, the UK and Australia have a "u" in them and don't here in the USA. Favorite being an example. Of course, I realize I may be the only one who actually finds this interesting.

I agree that it's pretty interesting how language evolves. English is my second language (I'm French-Canadian) and favourite is very interesting because in French, we write favorite (feminine version of favori).

Thank you all for answering my question. I think the consensus is to ride it at night so I will try to get a FP+ after dinner. Luckily, this ride is in DHS where I don't care about not getting a 4th FP+, unlike MK or AK our two favourite parks.

I also agree that night is better, the Christmas lights set a fun festive mood. Last trip we did one HS day with a morning FP, and one HS day with a nighttime FP. It was summer time, so it had to be quite late to be after dark, but it was worth it (even for us with young kids). If I had to choose one, I would pick night since I think it is one of the neatest rides in any Disney park to ride at night, but there are a few others that come to mind too (Splash, Dumbo, and certainly Everest!). The only down side to choosing night is the inability to have 4th FP etc during that day, but we had a resort day until about 2pm (swimming, big meal), then started had our FP from 2-3, 4-5, 8-9, and fit in some shows in between (and Star Wars fireworks afterward).

Night is much better. We hopped in line right at 8pm park closing and only waited about 20 minutes standby (45 minute posted wait).
