We are leaving in 2 days for our WDW vacation at the Beach Club. Nana, Pa Pa, son, daughter in law and 3 year old grandson. We have purchased spray misters and those cooling neck ties. Of course we will be downing lots and lots of water and staying in the shade as much as possible. Anyone have any other tips?

Hi, Dialane!

I'd suggest getting to the parks first thing, at lunchtime stop in an air conditioned restaurant and go back to the hotel for a rest- even swimming if somebody doesn't want to lounge around in air conditioned comfort, then about 4 or so head back out. Maybe an early supper in an air conditioned place, then see the parks in the cooler evenings when they aren't as crowded.

Have a wonderful time!

We were there EXACTLY 1 year ago (makes me kind of sad). I surprisingly found one thing that really kept me considerably cooler was a baseball cap. I forgot to wear mine one day in the middle of the trip and the heat bothered me so much more.

Get to the parks at opening and then take an afternoon break, especially with a 3 year old. Do the morning EMH at MK. My kids were 2 and 4 when we last went in July, and they would not have made it if we stayed in the parks in the afternoon. That's the most crowded time of the day and obviously the warmest. We liked to leave around noon, go take a nap/pool break, and return to the parks for the evening.

Don't be afraid to go to the parks in the rain. Often there was a short shower in the late afternoon/early evening. It really cooled us off and cleared out the parks.

Alternate between indoor and outdoor attractions in the parks. It's not hard to do, except at AK. Only go to AK in the very early morning or if the temps are considerably cooler one day.

I get overheated really easily, so this is a big issue for me.

I just love those "neck cooling wraps" that you can buy at drugstores, camping stores, etc. (I also got one at Animal Kingdom a few years ago, but didn't see any anywhere else in the park.) These are wraps that you soak in water for about 20 minutes before using; the gel beads swell up and provide a cooling sensation when worn around the neck. I just bought a couple at my local Long's Drugs (in the summer seasonal section); they cost about $3.99 each (but cost considerably more in the parks, as you can imagine).

Have also used the small portable fans (battery operated) that you can buy for about $2.99 (or sometimes find at the dollar store). The really small ones are small enough to fit into a daypack - just remember extra batteries!

Even if you don't have the neck cooling wraps, a simple wet bandana tied around my neck really helps keep me cool. I have several in different colors to go with different clothes, but I wet them down from the water fountains when I need to feel cool.

They are also good for wiping perspiration your face - which I need to do regularly.

That and a light colored hat (full brim, not a baseball cap) are what I use to keep cook.

Finally, invest in some wicking clothing - shirts and socks - they wick perspiration away from your body, and help keep you cooler than cotton.

Very good tips! I am going in about 2 weeks and I dread the thought of the heat.

To keep cool and use for sticky fingers, I like to carry a few cold washclothes in a ziploc. If your room has a frig just pop a few clothes in the fridge or freezer compartment for a vew hours or overnight. Grab 'em on your way out and your ready to go! Wiping down with a cool cloth is very refreshing during the hot, sticky days of summer. You can add ice to the pack during the day. You could bring a few washclothes from home, or in a pinch you can use paper towels-and they're disposable. Keep cool. 64 days and counting :bounce:

you could do like my dad and just shave your head and stop every 200 yards to squeegie off the head. ;)

Hello from very warm New Jersey!:) We're going to WDW in 11 Days-WOOHOO!!! :cool1: and while I have my Lime Green Mickeys ready :earsboy:, I've read about these neck cooling wraps but can't find them in my area of Northern NJ. Does anyone know of an on-line source or if I've missed a source locally (I've tried sporting good stores, etc.)?

Thank you for all your help!
Mimi

The best thing to do is in the middle of the day go back to your hotel and go swimming for a while to cool down and relax for a while. Also always have a water bottle or something. Also go on a water ride or most inside rides are air conditioned. if u are at Epcot go into ice station cool and grab a soda. Italy is very nasty :crazy2: and germany tastes just like coke.

Also hey Dialane!! my brother works at the Beach club as a bellman/vallay parker. His name is John and go up to him and be like u are fat. jk :rotfl2:

I overheat easily too. I found that by carrying the small hand towel from the hotel room around with me during the day to wipe my face kept me comfortable to deal with the heat in August. One day I forgot it and had a tougher day. I saw someone else doing this as I was touring a park and borrowed the idea. I will definitely do it for our trip in 10 days.
