What is your dogs name and why?

Our English Setter is named Duchess. She was originally called Cricket on her papers but the family that bought her and gave her to us named her Duchess. Didn't want to confuse her further by changing her name again. Had a German Shorthair pointer/lab mix named Autumn because I love that time of year and she had beautiful brown/white coloring that seemed to go with the name. We lost her when she was a puppy :( We now have another German shorthair pointer named Summer. The kids named her. I think that is their favorite time of year. No school!

Here goes! We have 3 Samoyeds and each have their name for different reasons.

Diamond is first, she is 9 1/2On right in avatar). Her reg. name is Diamond Tundra of Lynnmere. "Diamond" because when she was a pup she had a diamond shape on her forehead, "Tundra" because Sammies come from the Siberian tundra and Lynnmere is the kennel name.

Misty is just over 2(left in avatar). Her Reg. name is Dakota's Acadia Mist. Dakota is the kennel name, Acadia is our fave vacation spot....a beautiful national park here in ME and Mist because sometimes it's misty there. We wanted a "New England/Maine theme to her name....she is the foundation of our kennel.

Logan is 10 mos. old(not pictured). Reg. name is Moonlighter's Logan Saphire. Moonlighter is the kennel, Logan Saphire is a famous gem. The breeder was going with a "gem stone" theme for the litter since the daddy's name is Ch.Moonlighter's Treasure Chest (Chester).

I have a list of possible names for future dogs. And also possible "themes" for upcoming litters. It's fun to come up with a "catchy" name....some people are so good at it! Our kennel name is First Light....hense the verse in my siggy:D .

As a side note for whoever it was that mentioned the Newf who won at Westminster....we saw his brother at a show in MA...love the Newfs, but I'd need a bigger house!!

I name all my animals after historical or literary figures...

I have a St. Bernard named Eleanor Roosevelt (she prefers to be called Ellie)... I named her this because she is a large woman with big feet...

We call my dog Beau (that's him under my tag), because he came with that name, but we expanded his name to Beauregard Dog, or Beau Dog for short.

My boxer is 'Matilda'...'Mattie' for short b/c she was so ugly as a pupply she needed an ugly name...she actually so ugly she is cute!

We adopted a yellow lab named 'Sandy'...which I hate but it is so predictable...we tried to change it ...but she knew her name and we couldn't do that to her!

I have a hatred of predicatable names....growing up we had Lady the cocker spaniel, Coco the choclate lab...Kitty the cat...all named by my dad so I try to be a bit more original...I like mythological names...I have Loki the cat..he is a flame point and Loki is the Norse god of fire...thought that was cool...but of course DH & I have to come to an agreement so we compromise!

My dog was named Denny. My brother named him, and to this day I have no idea how he came up with the name. My brother and dad had went to the county humane society after seeing an ad that a new litter of puppies had arrived. My dad and brother both fell in love with Denny (who was named Mo at the time; he was with his two brothers, Larry and Curly), and my dad told my brother that he had to "bring Mom back" to get final approval.

Later that afternoon, both my parents went to the humane society and came home with Mo. As soon as my dad walked in the front door, he put Mo on the floor, and my brother shouted, "You brought home Denny!" The name stuck. Unfortunately, Denny is in heaven now, so neither he nor my brother is telling us where his name came from. :)

A year ago last Christmas, I decided I wanted to get my kids (ages 8 and 11) now a puppy. IT was the only thing my oldest daughter wanted and I had put it off for LITERALLY YEARS. It was Christmas eve day and I started looking in the papers and calling the pounds.

I found a lady that had puppies that were a mixture of black lab, golden retriever, and blue heeler. He was a very cute dog.......and Im not a dog lover by any means.

While we were at midnight mass, my 2 sisters came and played santa and left the dog in a carrier. My kids were ecstatic to say the least. We named him Nick since St Nick brought him.

My yorkie's name is Penny Lane, named after the Beatles song.

My Maltese is named Amelia after Amelia Earhart.

Of course, the nicknames we have are a whole 'nother ball park. I like picking names that can have a good nickname...for instance, we call Amelia The Mee, or Mee or Meelie. Penny's name has been turned into an unrecognizable jumble of consonants and vowels.

Yet they always know when I'm calling them.

We have a 12-year-old golden retriever/husky mix named Duke. My husband went to Duke University and it was a son or a dog that was going to have that name...thank goodness the dog came first! HAHA!

Our 4-month-old puppy is named George, for our current president. Some people just call him Dubya! :teeth: :teeth:

Yorkie's name is Chloe...she was my mom's dog originally so I didn't name her. I really didn't want her to name the dog that :rotfl: so now I'm stuck with her! :)

Maltese's name is Harley...because my stepfather had bought a Harley...but the name was actually my idea  It's fun to have a dog named that because he has the Harley Davidson collar, tee shirt and hat

SurlyMermaid...nice dog breed choices ;) :teeth:

His name is Prince & he's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel & so he is our little Prince.

Bernie - because he is part St. Bernard. He had that name when we adopted him as a 1 1/2 year old from a rescue group. And he is the best!

Ralphie- he's a cocker spaniel and I named him after the kid in "A Christmas Story". You know the "you'll shoot your eye out" kid. I love that movie.

Hey, Tinkerbelle! I' have a flat-coated retriever also...and his name is Max! :teeth: He looks like a Max. :) At first we thought Rex, but it doesn't fit.

I also have a boxer/lab whose name is Skippy. That's the traditional name...I had a Skippy as a kid, my dad had a Skippy as a kid. :)

Teddy. That was his name when we got him, so we kept it. It's cute and fits him.

The male is named Snicklefritz (after the cat puppet on Big Comfy Couch) and the female is named Cocoa because she loves the smell of chocolate (would never give her any of course, but the day we brought her home she tried to steal a Hershey Kiss right out of my mouth by acting like she wanted to give me "kisses".):love1:

I don't have a dog but if I did it would be a Yorkie and his name would be "Bubba". Little dogs need big names. Unfortunately, Mickey doesn't want nothing to do with no da*n Bubba's. Straight from the cats mouth (if he could talk)!

OP is going to love this!!

My stepdad's last name is Bell

So my Y. Lab's name is Tinker

Sweet, huh!

P.S. The cat is Libby, short for Liberty - I voted for Taco:p

MY very first animal I had was a cat and I named her Minnie Mouse. I was only 2 and my mom said thats the only word I could say perfectly.

We have a Pit Bull now and her name is Kobe.....for Kobe Bryant!
