What is your dogs name and why?

Well the dog we had to put down last year was named "Henry"... he came with that name, got him at the Adopt-A-Pet agency. He was a shepherd/lab mix.

We are thinking of getting a Pug and my DH want to name him "Carl".... why, I don't know. He just thinks it would be a cool name for a pug.

Jake was named by the children of the family who owned him before we did. They only had him for two weeks, but he responded to his name so well that it seemed like a shame to change it and confuse the poor guy. Plus he just looks like a Jake. Of course we soon found out that Jake is one of the most popular male dog names. Things can get a bit confusing at the dog park!

My greyhound was named Edger. That was his track name. What a good boy he was!

My bearded collie was named Harley. We adopted him with that name.

My boxer was named Jasper. He was the only dog we didn't adopt.

Time to start thinking about getting another dog. It's a quiet house without one.

We are yankees, now living in the south. So some of the dogs we have gotten down here without a name had to have a southern name. We had 2 black lab littermates, Scarlet and Melanie. (God rest their souls.) We got Opie, a yellow lab later. We later got a Shar Pei, and (phoenetically) named her after the little Gremlins-Mao Kwai-cute and fuzzy on the outside, a gremlin just waiting to get out! She passed on, then we got Stella, a Bernese Mountain Dog. She has attitude, just like I imagine a person named Stella would have. Then there's our Lanseer Newfoundland, Mitch. He was named after Mt. Mitchell, fairly large mountain in the area. It fits, at 150 lbs., he is mountainous!

Hooray for the Newfs, winner at Westminster this year!!:bounce:

Our golden retriever is named Ranger. DH insisted that he got to name this one and his favorite show at the time (1999) was Walker, Texas Ranger, which he watched with the girls unless it was a really violent one. I refused to walk a dog named "Walker" so we named him "Ranger". He is probably the best dog ever, although I always say that.

The dachshunds are

Cricket-small, hoppy like a cricket and worked well with my daugter's name, Carrie-registered name Carrie's Lil' Cricket

Dixie-registered name Darlin' Dixie Redcoat-Dixie from the south and Redcoat because of her red color and the UGA Marching Redcoat Band

Beau-registered name General Stonepaw Beauregard-seemed the appropriate southern name to go with Dixie

Lab mix-Honey-she's yellow

Cats:

Velvet-solid black longhair-name just seemed to fit

Figaro-black medium hair-needed one Disney name

Our dog's name is Ally.

She's an American Staffordshire Terrier. We named her Ally because mainly DH really loved the show Ally McBeal.

Our dog was rescued by a rescue group because her previous owners were using her just to have puppies. They had her tied up all day in a yard and she had no love. She was tied to an old car that was in the yard and the car had an oil leak and oil dripped on her back causing her to have a severe rash.:(

But we adopted her in 1999 and her life completely changed. Hence the Ally McBeal name.

She's 7 1/2 now and she is such a loyal, loving, friendly dog.

Anni is a shortened form of anniversary. She was an anniversary present from my DH 12 years ago. Some of our dogs were already named when we they came to us. The rest of them really have no meaning to their names. We just chose those names for them. Isaiah is the only one that was named after another dog. One of my former bosses (best boss I ever had) owned a collie that was named Isaiah Daniel and so he was named after her dog.

My dog is a :snooty: pure-bred Italian Greyhound :snooty: His name is Navy Blue Soldier. We got Blue because they consider the color of his coat to be blue, Navy because his coats a Navy blue color, and soldier like hes a Soldier in the navy.....do you get it? I did right away!

But his name is long like a show dogs. :hyper: You know how they have like names like Sir Crystal Garamond Glee or Madam Reilly Holly Watson? Its weird!

Auggie, but I don't know why they picked that name. We adopted her from humane society. But she is my baby and that's what is important to me. :D

Dot.
She has one in the middle of her forehead.

Our newfie's name is Bear but we call him Boo for some reason. Our Lab is Firehause's Some Like it Hot and his call name is Cinder.

My kids named our dog Snowy because she is white. She's a westie.

My dog's name is Nicki. Nicki Reese. We named her that because she is named after my fav basketball player (Nickole) on our college's team. Reese is another player who real name is Charise but they call her Reese.:)

Our 10 year old golden retriever is named Murray after DW's deceased father. We were newly married when we got him and were never going to name one of children after him, so DW asked her siblings and mother if they had a problem with it. They are all dog lovers and saw nothing wrong with it. We do get the strangest looks when we tell people where the name came from. Also at the time, the TV show Mad About You was popular and their dog was Murray, so sometimes we say it is from that show.

My dog's registered name is Endless Mountain Rainy Day, but we simply call her Rainy. My son chose the name when it was pouring buckets outside and we were having her tags engraved.

Our dog's name is Austin - that was the name he came with from the Humane League. However, I like to call him "Austin Powers, Dog of Mystery." I think it's funny; the dog doesn't seem to get it.

These are really good, glad I asked and glad you all answered!! Keep 'em coming!!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

Our dogs name is ToTo. You guessed it, from the Wizard of OZ. This was DD's favorite movie and she begged her daddy to buy her a ToTo. Well of course he gave in!
We didn't get the exact terrier from the movie, but a Yorkie instead. Same thing in my DD's eyes!LOL She is a cutie and her ears are floppy because they never learned to stick up! She is going to be 3yo in Aug. and she is such a good doggy. We love her!!!

Our dog's name is Dixie--mostly because we lived in....you guessed it: Dixie.
