What is up with all the moved threads?

Yeah, a bunch of stuff that's actually budget related gets moved. I haven't really posted since then because whats the point when everything gets moved. Then it just goes to the community board and the thread usually dies.

I've noticed that someone keeps moving threads that are budget related while leaving others alone. It's confusing.

I could understand if they are not budget related. But most of the threads being moved are budget related! As others said threads on community board moves so fast who gets to see budget related threads there?

Hopefully a mod or webmaster will give us an answer as to why all these changes are taking place.

Has anybody written to a WebMaster and asked (instead of just wondering among yourselves)? It looks like there's only one regular Moderator here - down from three or four a couple of years ago - so I wouldn't be surprised if the WMs are just trying to maintain some control here. That's entirely a guess, though.

I mean, reading the threads shows they're budget-related, but often the titles don't. Now, this is just my opinion, but using that QVC/American Girl thread as an example: even using the Budget Board theory that "a dollar saved is another dollar earned for a Disney trip" - no matter how much money you save on an AG doll, it wasn't something needed, or on which advice was needed in order to be able to better or faster afford a trip.

I'm not picking on any thread, starter, or participants. It's just a thread somebody mentioned so I used it as my example. The first moved thread I noticed was from someone whose microwave had sparked and zapped for the last time. He wanted advice on getting a good deal on a new one, but that wasn't apparent from the thread title. It got moved.

I think they should leave threads alone unless they have complaints!

many of my older threads got moved( started months to years ago) when they resurfaced on the budget board.... than died over at the community board....

maybe we can ask for a community budget board sub board of some type..... i really feel like this is my 2nd home on this board.....
you guys have helped me with so many things thru the years.... Im a little saddened by the change....

That's a thought. I never go to the community board, the atmosphere is very different for me. Budget is my first (of 2) regular stop on DIS. (and I easily skip the threads that don't concern me)

I don't get it either and I have been here for 10 years now. I never really thought of this board as just Disney budget related. I have gotten so many great tips on all areas of money saving (and that indirectly has probably caused me to afford a lot more trips to Disney than I otherwise could have).

I try to stay off the community board because of the general nastiness over there and things just move too fast. I only can check once or twice a day and always loved this board. Now it is kind of a wasteland. Would love to hear a moderators rationale because it seems like this change was unjustified!

I was away for a couple weeks and I came back and saw all of the moved threads. I have the budget board on my iPhone so I just click and I'm here. What happened?! July is when the Christmas talk starts, will that stuff be moved too? I love this board, it's like my home. Every blue moon I'll check out the Community board, but I read the budget board everyday!

Mods,

Please don't change it!

I think the difference is, that the budget board is under the trip planning forum, while the Community Board is under "Just for Fun".

Maybe there needs to be a Budget Board under Just for Fun, for the general at home savings. Because all the other boards in this category deal directly with Disney, the parks, resorts, dining, getting around, and what to do for different groups of people. Although college board, gay board, and probably the spanish board have a lot more general chatter, rather than directly related to Disney.

The one problem with the "just for fun" section, is there's so many subforums, many people don't know they exist. Therefor they get very few posts, very little response, and month old topics are still on the first page. They are good subforums and cover a lot of topics discussed on other boards, which would be nice if those boards were more popular. Especially the cooking board. There's so many great recipes and ideas shared around here, it would be nice to find them all in the one board. It would make dinner ideas so much easier. But being on the budget board, they're just scattered about the hundreds of pages of topics. And good luck trying to find that one recipe you remember reading about, but can't remember the user, the title, or what exactly was in the post.

It would also require people to change their habits when viewing these boards. I'm like the rest, I go to board 33 and 22, sometimes 24. I'll just change the forum number in the web address rather than going to the forum list and selecting it from there.

Then QVC/American Girl thread has been on the Budget board for about 3 years, but a question about that got moved as well. You can save some serious $ at that sale. Oh well, I'm confused, too, and probably won't post as much... This is my favorite board and usually the only one I read.

Yep, that was my post. I was really surprised when I checked the replies and saw that it was on the Community Board - a board I never go to. I thought I made some kind of mistake but I guess not.

There's a lot of weird stuff going on here lately. First all the moved threads and then the Dreams Unlimited Ads in the middle of threads even when you're logged on.

I hope these are just mistakes, because if they stay like this, I guess I'll be going elsewhere.

I don't agree that the QVC/American Girl thread was not budget related. It was about saving money on buying American Girl dolls that are sold on QVC. They are significantly cheaper when doing that so to me, that is budget related. Especially when someone is strapped for money and wants to buy decent gifts for Christmas, birthdays, etc.

Think about it, the money that is saved by buying the dolls on QVC, can be used towards a trip - any trip - not only Disney.

Sorry, I just think someone is going "move" happy.

This is just my opinion though.:)

Just take a look at all the sub forums that show up when you click on the title of that section VS just looking at the index list of forums.

There's even a bunch of community boards within some of the directly about Disney boards. Like the DisAbility has a sub forum for community chatter. Ft Wilderness has a community board for all the campers out there. Within those community boards, it's ok to discuss general chatter about life, but on the main board, it's preferred that you stick to the title. Like the Fort board, feel free to discuss all things related to Fort Wilderness (and they're pretty good about staying on topic), but take your topic about wanting to camp at Yellowstone over to the Fort community board. While it's camping related, it's not "Disney Camping" related, therefor needs to be in the community section.

I would think topics related to money going in or going out would be budget related - it is for me! I've had several topics moved to the community board after they had about 20 responses on here, and they promptly die out. I think the Community board likes juicy topics, not money problems.popcorn::

I am new to this area but there are some that should be moved. There was one last week where someone was having trouble programming their phone or something. How is that budget related? People ask for recipes...and not budget related ones or ask how a menu is for a graduation party...not really budget related or in the title like others said they don't say budget. But then you see some and people give the wink face stretching how it is a budget related topic. Appears to be hit and miss on what gets move. To be honest I am glad to see some of them moved...they don't belong BUT others should have stayed. It just makes it hard to look at the decent budget threads when there are ones that are not at all budget related.

This is a prime example of one that should NOT be here.....it is about how long a cell phone battery should stay charged. It is not asking for cheap cell phone batteries or anything like that. Just a question that is no where near budget related. That should be moved......don't you think??????

Whether one has a lemon product, seems at least remotely budget related. Last week they moved an Ira thread and kept one about nutella!

We have been receiving daily complaints from a number of regular Budget Board posters about the non-Budget threads that are "allowed" to be on the forum, making it difficult to find the budget topics.

The DIS is a huge site with lots of forums designed to provide a wealth of information on a wide variety of topics. Just because a post mentions the word "budget" or "money" does not really mean it is budget related.

Questions about WDW resorts, should be posted on the Resorts forums. Questions about Theme Park tickets should be posted on the Theme Parks forums. Questions about DVC should be posted on the DVC forums. Questions about Orlando resorts and lodging should be posted on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions forums. Rewards questions belong on the Disney Rewards forum. Questions about menus and recipes belong on the Cooking forum. The Creative Community is a great place for gardening and scrapbooking questions. Those wanting trades and exchanges are welcome to use the Exchange forum.

The DIS began as one forum and everything was discussed there. As it became obvious that there were interests being posted that needed their own forum, other boards were created to meet that need. Thus the Theme Parks forum and Resorts forum were created. As time went on, other forums were also added - like the Community Board - to accommodate the questions and discussions that did not topically fit other forums. The Budget Board was created with that in mind.

Looking at some of the threads on the Budget Board right now, it appears that several may be better served on other forums - like game suggestions for a party (even though "Budget" appears in the title, Milk due Dates, LazyBoy quality, Which Cell phone, how long do cell phone batteries stay charged and others.

People actually make daily complaints about such things? It isn't as though it takes a ton of effort to check the next page. Losing something on the community board is a given, however. Why nit just make a budget community board like the theme park forum? Just wondering.

A week or two ago my trip insurance thread was moved there also. Never got anymore votes after that.

It even had an area for I don't buy trip insurance.

I don't get how that isn't budget related and belongs in the community board.

That was the one I was interested in.

So again - how many people have asked DIS WebMasters or the BB Moderator either why the threads are getting moved, or - great suggestion on this page - for a Budget Board Community sub-forum?

Using the AG/QVC thread again (I'm not picking on you, I swear! I love QVC; I haven't had to go 'store' shopping for clothes in years!), there's nothing in the title that makes it apparent that thread is budget related. Somebody looking at just thread names would reasonably think it doesn't belong here.
