Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

Then I found this:
Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS, or email, or through applications such as TwitterMobile, Tweetie, Twinkle, TwitterFox, Twitterrific, Feedalizr, and Facebook.

Yeah now I'm clear on what it is.
I'm pretty sure I dont have any use for twinkle, twitter, tweetie...

I have a Twitter account. I follow a lot of the Disney podcasters on there. It's fun when they post from the parks.

They had a twitter Mousefest link that allowed people to send text and also pictures of their Mousefest adventures. I participated in it. You could send pictures you took on your cellphone.

Basically internet based text messaging.

You can follow people and people can follow you. The relationship doesn't have to be reciprocal. I follow a lot of news sites, I think DH and a few reporter friends are the only people who follow me.

You can get the info via the web, text message, email or a smart phone application (like TwitterFon or Twitteriffic for the iPhone.)
