Hi eveyone. We are going to Chicago (Great Lakes) to attend our sons Naval graduation. I was wondering what is good to see there. I need your suggestions.

Thanks.

I'm not from Chicago or even nearby, but the first activity that comes to mind are their wonderful......

Gino's Pizza?

(I have never been to Chicago)

LOTS! Too many to mention.
See if you can hook up with a Richard Crow (think that was his name) ghost tour. We did a walking tour of Chinatown around years ago and loved it. :)
China Town itself is VERY COOL!!
We were told them he usually just sticks to group tours. But he allowed us in.

Make sure to check out the Oceanarium in the Shedd Aquarium.
Field Museum is wonderful.
As is the Science and Industry -- esp the OMNIMAX! :bounce:

We haven't returned to Chicago since becoming Disneyholics.

You could even try for free tickets to the Oprah show, depending on what your week day schedule is. :)
There is a Medival Times (or at least was) in nearby Schaumburg.

A million things to do. Lakeshore drive, museum, michigan Ave for shopping....
And, go to Lawry's for prime ribs. The best in this country.

Yep. I am going to repeat some but here we go:

Michigan Avenue (browse and shop)
Water Tower Place (get out the credit cards) :Pinkbounc
State Steeet (that great street)
Shedd Aquarium
Field Museum
Museum of Science and Industry (a must)
Lincoln Park Zoo
Sears Tower
The Art Museum (another must)
Restaurants galore (Seafood , Steaks, Chops, Chinese, Tai, novoue, Italian, Greek, you name it , we have it)

You will definately not run out of things to do here in Chi-town! :bounce:

WOW so much to do in Chicago :) and so little time :(.

We only have the one day to tour Chicago. With everything thats there what one thing would you do?

Luv2Roam China Town sounds great.

newmousecateer what is Shedd Aquarium? That also sounds good.

Thanks everyone.

Well... gotta try some Pizza. Gino's is good. Also small place called The Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder;

If you are driving, would be a drag to park around here, (they have Valet)... but can also take a cab.

If you have good weather, go to Navy Pier. They have fireworks on weekends, and have 'the haunting' during halloween. They have many 'tour' boats that take you out some fancy with dinners, and some just fun (SeaDog).

And shopping can't be beat! Water tower is fun.

There is also great clubs for music (House of Blues), or comedy (Second City)

Have fun, hope you have nice weather!

Ithastobe and coqui

Both of you mentioned pizza. You are now getting me hungry :).

I will definately put Chicago Pizza on top of my list to do's.

If the weather is decent, one of the Chicago native's tips is to take a Chicago Architectural Foundation boat tour (there are a few competitors--make sure it is the CAF tour as they are markedly better than the others). You will get to see downtown Chicago in a spectacular fashion. You also must have Chicago deep dish pizza. For ambience and food, I would recommend Pizzeria Uno (nothing like the chain versions of this Chicago legend).

There is a ton to see. I was there last summer, and had a wonderful whirlwind tour of the city. Wish I had a longer stay, maybe someday, but who knows ...Hope you enjoy your trip...it is a great place to visit, with some mighty nice DISers...

I admit, I am a pizza lover and the pizza there is the best (much more preferable to me over pizza from NY). Don't listen to Dan though, he was a very good tour guide and I saw a lot in one day. Out of the places I saw though, Navy Pier was my favorite. I'm not sure I'll have much time to go downtown on my next trip, but if I do Navy Pier is tops on my list of places to go again.

Thanks everyone. I will send all your comments to my son who is graduating from the Navy (Great Lakes) and let him decide what he wants us to do.
