Can be mentally or physically

I remember once having to stay at my grandma till 2/3am as my brother had to go to hospital and I still had to go to school at 8.55am

I once gave a final exam with a severe case of pink eye, wearing sunglasses. I'm a college professor and there was nobody available to give the final exam for me.

I also gave a final exam about 10 years ago with two broken ribs while recovering from a severe case of pneumonia. When you're a professor everything can be changed BUT the final exam - it's written in stone.

Working on a torn calf muscle the day it happened. I thought it was just a really bad strain in my defense and I did end up leaving early to hit up the doctor. Yea... that was painful.

Went back to work 2 weeks after hysterectomy. Worked while I had shingles, they were on my upper thigh so walking was an issue and I worked upstairs with no elevator. I've worked with broken toes and sprained ankles.

Worked half a day while in labor. Labor started about 4 a.m. Worked from 5:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Went to the hospital when I couldn't hide the pain anymore, had the baby at 3 p.m.
I went to nursing school on several occasions following a full night shift at a group home (and no, you couldn't nap :) ). Coffee was my friend on those days.

I was in the middle of a gallbladder attack and in so much pain I was doubled over. My boss wouldn't let me leave work because we had a nurse's meeting that afternoon. Yes, that's right-a nurse's meeting! Not always the most caring profession.

I don't normally drink much, and when I do I hardly ever get hung over. BUT...

One Wednesday night, for reasons I can't even fathom, I got really hammered. Went to work the next morning with a raging hangover.

Went to work in the throes of appendicitis. For breakfast I had a piece of pie my baby sister (18 y.o.) had made, and I swore she was trying to poison me!

I worked overnights for 25 years (11pm to 7 am) and got sick with the flu at work 3 or 4 times in all those years. Often i was the only one on duty so there was no way I could go home. I would tell them I was taking the NEXT day off sick, and usually I was well enough the next day that I COULD have worked.
I have an unusually knack for getting sick of getting sick on Friday after work, and being better by Sunday night, so being sick work hasn't been much of an issue.

'Taught' my class from the floor of the bathroom once.

I had one those no warning when I was going to throw up bugs, but I also had a class of 10 kids and three classroom aides who while competent could not always manage some of the high maintenance students.

It never failed that I would be gone and that would be when I got a call that I had a kid go streaking down the street or there was a meltdown so bad that parents had to remove the child. Everyone was happier if I was there.

It's a toss up between taking a final exam after a night of too much tequila (vomiting before and after), and going to work after being out for three days with vomiting and fever (couldn't justify another day even though I felt awful), only to get a call from my boyfriend (now DH) who got his test results back from the doctor - hep A. I left and was out for another month (took DH 6 weeks to be cleared).

Years ago I sometimes went to work suffering from gout. The attacks are exquisitely painful, but because you can't really do anything to stop the pain I sucked it up and went to work. My co-worker pushed me around in an office swivel chair so I could move about the building. It's a strange thing because there are no visible symptoms...except for the excruciating look on my face.

I went to work for a few hours with some sort of head infection since my Doctors office was near work - I wasn't sure what I had at the time. Bad mistake - when leaving I misjudged the distance to the cement pole (weird parking lot with cement poles everywhere) and scraped all down the side of my van. Cost me a pretty penny to fix that up.

When I got to the doctors I had a double ear infection, sinus infection and strep throat. No wonder I was so miserable. Luckily I didn't pass the strep throat on to anyone since I was contagious.

Went to work day after my husband walked out on me. It was horrible and hard but it was a new job and I couldn't afford not to work.
