what is the purpose of extra TSA security at the gate?

Well, in America, does everyone who enters the sterile area get screened? In America are the exits to the secure area one way only?

There are many other examples - and this is why there is a number of people upset that security is just a myth and 'theatre'. Taking off shoes is for example something limited to America but isn't proven to do much if anything to make us safe.

I don't understand why more people aren't upset that the 'security' on US domestic flights is less than on international flights around the world. At least the 12/25 incident and resulting actions, combined with some very large TSA failures, has shown the general public that things are not what they should be.

Anyone who is bound and determined to destroy an airplane isn't deterred by the random searches. Unless the random searches were full strip searches, the Christmas panty bomber would have breezed through TSA security anyway. I wish they'd quit wasting time and money harrassing the vast majority of passengers who have no ill intentions. It's not rocket science. Israel manages to do a fine job keeping their passengers safe from harm without making everyone take off their shoes and put hand lotion, contact lens solution, and lip balm in a quart-size plastic bag for inspection.

TSA agents were @ our SWA gate in PHL last Saturday. They did pat-downs of some folks (but did not check their carry-ons, which I found a bit odd). They chose about 20 folks while we were in the boarding lines.

My guess is that it is an attempt at spam. Being bored, I looked at their other posts (they only have three total). All of the threads would have been pulled up with a search using "security doors" - which just happens to be their signature. They don't have 10 posts yet, so no actual link.
