what is the most weight you ever gained on a cruise?

I usually don't gain weight on a cruise. I think it's because I use the stairs a lot and am more active on vacation than at home. Even though I eat more desserts when traveling, I eat at normal mealtimes - instead of grazing throughout the day, as I do at home!

The first cruise I went on put on a decent amount a weight. I don't know how much all I know is that a pair of pants that we loose when I started had to be unbuttoned on the last night.

Since then I have learned. I love cruises and don't need to put weight on each time. I always take the stairs now and watch what I eat. I walk in the morning around the ship. I just stay more active and eat less.

You will love the cruise just be mindful of what you are eating and how active you stay.

On my last back to back cruise, I gained 14 pounds in 2 weeks...

Of course it was on Carnival and I had 2 chocolate melting cakes with vanilla ice cream after every meal, which probably didnt help my waistline... I lost it within a month after the cruise so it didn't affect me much.

I let myself go during cruises, you only live once, might as well enjoy it...

7 pounds in 7 days! I don't know how much of it stuck, though. Some may have been just extra fluids from traveling, eating more salty food, or whatever. I do know that it scared me into getting very serious with my gym workouts for several months before I went on a 15-night cruise! I was pretty highly motivated by the fear that I might follow my trend and gain 15 pounds! That year I lost several pounds before the trip, worked out several times on the cruise, and gained only a few pounds back. I use the stairs a lot at home, but I also did things like make myself run up from Deck 2 to Deck 9 or carry my 3YO up the stairs. I think that definitely helped, lol. I didn't really limit what I ate at dinner and ate plenty of desserts and bread and butter, but I did restrain myself to a very small breakfast like a small bowl of cereal or some yogurt and fruit. It's easier for me to do that than to forgo any of the dinner courses!

I was thrilled that I didn't gain a single pound on our recent Med cruise (and then an additional week of germany and an overload of beer). I made sure that I had a lot of fruit and protein for breakast. My protein of choice became a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers. The protein kept me full for pretty much the entire day. At dinner I would order whatever I wanted and even had desert a few times. Protein for breakfast is the key.

6 pounds, although not all of them were from the cruise. We were at WDW for 3 days before the cruise during the Food and Wine Festival and I ate my way through Epcot!

I lost it within a few weeks of being home, once I got back to my normal routine. I had a dessert and a drink with dinner every night on the cruise, which doesn't happen at home. I also don't usually get to lay around much at home, an activity I greatly look forward to when I am on vacation.

1st cruise - lost 7lbs
2nd cruise - lost 3lbs
3rd cruise - gained 3lbs
4th cruise - ????? 20 more days to go

I am always worried before I go on the cruise about weight gain. I take the stairs and plan active shore excursions.

I'm freaking out about weight gain becasue I recently lost about 25 LB's (10 of which have been in the last month). We leave in 2 weeks and I KNOW I will gain weight!! I'm trying really hard to loose another 5 before we leave just so I can gain it back without to much worry :lmao:

I generally loose weight on a cruise and I think it's because I eat more 'real' food. I live too much on quick and packaged foods and just having wholesome freshly prepared dinners made a big difference! I still had desserts and there were some chicken strip and fries in each experience, but the additional movement and the good dinners ended up helping me instead of hurting!

Ouch! This thread is very scary for me 'cause I recently lost 46 pounds and am going on my first cruise next Fall. I do not want to gain weight!

I plan to take stairs alot and visit the gym or walk the track around the boat daily for 20-30 minutes.

I also hope to not have the "it's paid for so I'll eat it" mentality. That's what gets me in trouble!

Some guidelines I've thought about: Desserts are great but I don't need to finish the whole thing! Love salads but will really limit calorie-laden dressings. I like that you can order off menu at dinner so I can always ask for broiled asparagus or other veggies in lieu of lots of potatoes or rice. Will try to limit breads to one (maybe 2) portion a day - if I have a sandwich or bun at lunch, none for dinner, no toast for breakfast, etc. Watch those "drinks of the day" and other high calorie drinks!

Honestly, it looks like one can eat a lot on a cruise if you are wise with food choices, stay away from fried foods and lots of sweets every day. I've had friends that went on (non Disney) cruises and and they were successful at not gaining so it can be done!

Good luck to everyone!

Oh gosh, this is a scary topic for me - my family and I are going on our first cruise, and I am worried I will gain the weight back that I've worked (and continue to work) hard at losing.

I think my strategy will be to make sure I wake up extra early to exercise, and indulge in one special treat a day. I have been tempted to "practice" cruise eating just to prepare, but that sounds like a b-a-d idea LOL.

My issue is with going back to eating normal. I did my first cruise 8-3 and I am still over doing it. Big meals and desserts become addicting..

I only gained .8 of a pound on a 7 day in December 2009, but just gained 5 on a 5 day in August 2010. Not sure how that happened, but I have 25 pounds to lose before my first half marathon in January and to get to my WW goal weight.

I gained about 12 pounds on the first 7 day cruise. Lost most of them within a couple of weeks of getting home. Next cruise DW, DS, and DD would take elevators but I did the stairs everywhere and only gained a few pounds. It was the two desserts every night that did me in. By the end of the cruise our server would go: "Mr. Scott which 2 desserts look good to you tonight". I am heading into the cruise in a few weeks about 5 pounds under my normal and hope to have a good entry point from a weight perspective when I head onboard!

I maintain and don't really change the way I eat on a cruise. When I overeat I feel really sick and I don't want to be sick on vacay I want to enjoy.

I gained 5lb on our last 7 night cruise, but some of that was water because of the high salt content of the food on the ship compared to how I eat at home.

I ate a LOT too! Sometimes even 2 dishes for a dinner when I couldn't choose which main course to have! :) Desserts every night. But I didn't eat dessert after lunch and I don't drink much alcohol. I lost the weight within about 3 weeks so it really wasn't a big deal.

Oh, I also couldn't exercise due to a seriously sprained ankle right before we got on board....
