what is the most weight you ever gained on a cruise?

7lbs on each cruise, but I lose 10lbs before we go to make it balance out.

We went on a 5 night cruise in June and I gained 5 lbs. I went to the gym 3 times on the ship and I STILL gained 5 lbs!!! I think for me it was beer and desserts... I am also someone who is trying to keep the weight off that I lost (50 lbs 3 years ago) so gaining even a few pounds is distressing!!! I think on our next cruise (maybe next summer!!) I will make a bigger effort to control myself...it is a frame of mind that I have to work on weeks, or months in advance!

That pesky beer could be the culprit. ::yes:: I remember when my mom was trying to gain weight (what a concept!) the docter suggested a beer every night before bed!

I actually tend to lose weight while on the cruise. I tend to eat better then I normally do at home, I eat more fruit and I'm constantly walking on the ship, you're lucky if I'm just sitting doing nothing when I'm on there. I also tend to take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator (depending of course on how many flights I have to go).

Ok, so I cannot believe I am admitting this. But I too am very afraid of gaining weight that I have worked so hard to take off. I am so scared that I actually found out that in the gym there is a scale. So to keep myself on track I am going to weight myself everyday. I know that if I see a scary number I will tell myself not to eat anything extra or skip a desert or two. I love eating, but to me the extra time to take off what I gain is not worth it.

Congrats on losing, and keeping off that 50 pounds! I have lost 50 pounds, and gained a bit on our recent cruise (My mom also passed away the end of June, so I think I just let loose on this past cruise). My goal is 25 more (well now 30 more) after the cruise to reach my goal.

On the first EBPC I gained a pound a day.:eek: I have since found that a little walk around deck 4 everyday will help keep the weight down.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

The most my hubby has gained was 20 pounds on a 7 day Princess MR cruise. At home he works out daily, plays tennis and watches what he eats. He has a food addiction and is all or nothing!! The night before the cruise....all bets are off and he eats and eats and eats!! When we are on the ship he must have 6-8 meals a day with cookies and ice cream inbetween. He will have 3 entrees as well as multiple appetiziers and multiple desserts. I can't even believe how much he can eat. His whole family eats this way and non of them are obese!!! Probably not the healthiest thing to do, but he doesn't drink but maybe 1-2 times a year when our kids aren't with us and doesn't smoke. It could always be worse.

gained 8 pounds on the 15 night WBPC in '08...not a port intensive cruise. lost 6 pounds on the 12 night Northern European...very port intensive!!!

I thought it was ok for a 2lb gain on a B2B2B in 2007.
We did alot of walking on the ship, the last week of the cruise Dh had a terrible ear infection and we never snorkled in any of the ports as was planned.

Wow, B2B2B! That's fantastic. We are doing an Alaska B2B this Spring on Princess so I am really hoping not to gain too much. I am going to try to walk like crazy too.

9lbs gain for me and 8lbs for DH - we got back yesterday from a 19 night B2B in the Med. I am ok with this, we will lose it quite quickly and we ate exactly what we wanted without worrying. We did walk a lot in ports and take the stairs often so I dread to think what it would have been without that additional activity!

Whatever happens, please enjoy your vacation. If you are worried about it, stay active and don't stuff yourself too much. But I'm sure you've worked hard to go on a wonderful cruise and everyone deserves to be spoiled once in a while. If you put weight on, make sure and work your butt of when you get back to take it off again.
Lifes too short! Have a GREAT cruise! :)

I love your philosophy, Nemmie! It's one I've adopted, as well. I've lost 65 lbs. on Weight Watchers, so I'm very cognizant of weight issues and the dangers of letting myself go too far. But, I've also learned that there are times, cruise vacations are the prime example, where it is normal to gain some weight. The key is to commit to work hard on losing it immediately after the vacation is over. I give myself "permission" to gain some weight on cruises, with the understanding that I'm going to work my tail off to get it back off when I come back.

A girl after my own heart.
(Presuming you are a girl ;))
I've been big (280lbs) and I've been small-ish (135lbs) and right now I'm happy floating up and down in between a healthy weight range. What I've learnt through it all is exactly as you say:-
Sometimes in life, give yourself a break and permission to put a little back on and have a little bit of indulgence.
I put weight on very easily so as soon as I get back I have to work twice or three times as hard to get that weight back off. You know what it's all worth it. The most important thing aside ones health is to be happy. I know for sure being obessed with my weight and worrying non stop about what I will or won't weigh at the end of my vacation does not make me happy.
Enjoy yourself! You deserve it!

We didn't gain any weight on our cruise. We drank a lot of water, used the stairs, walked around on the decks, used the exercise room(husband), etc. At meals, we ate but did not stuff ourselves and did not eat in between meals. We enjoyed the desserts, but didn't order seconds. We only took a small sample of the buffet during the pirate's party. We really didn't get a chance to just sit around, so maybe that was part of it. Remember, this is a special time and to enjoy your cruise.

I am a girl. ;) And, like you, unfortunately, I put on weight very easily. I wish I was one of those people that never seems to gain weight, but I'm not. I guess life just isn't fair. :confused3

I'm just off the Emerald Princess this past Sunday and managed to put on about 5 or 6 lbs. in 7 days. I ate more than the usual, but I certainly didn't "pig out". It's just how I'm wired. So now, it's back to working hard to take those 5-6 lbs. off (and a few more) in anticipation of our cruise on the Magic over Christmas. Keeping weight off will be a constant battle for me for life. I've come to accept that. But I also accept that not eating the souffle in Palo in order to keep from gaining a pound is something that would make me miserable. So, I eat it :lovestruc ... and then I face the scale when I get home. It's worth it to me. Others might feel differently, but that's for them to decide.

I found this thread with the same question. I dont want to gain back the 46 lbs I lost. I have 20 to go. But Knowing that I will gain 5 is okay with me. I just plan on being extra active and doing more than my old bad habbits of eating bad food.
