What is the biggest boo-boo you commit at Disney???

Left a cell phone on Soarin'..........called lost and found and they asked for a description and phone number (it wasn't locked) and they had it!!

OHHHH MAN.. my BIGGEST mistake ever happened during our second trip to Walt Disney World. Allow me to walk you through the day from H*LL.

A small back story: We had gone to Disney for Christmas for the first time the previous year. I was now a senior in college, very much excited in returning for the second year straight for Christmas. Then it happened. I broke my foot. My family almost canceled the trip, until I talked them into it- we got an EMV, and everything figured out. Well, the Wednesday after Christmas, my mom got sick. It would just be my dad, my sister and me at the parks for the day- so that she wouldn't miss anything, we did her least favorite - Animal Kingdom. And so the story begins..

I was riding the EMV and we decided we would salvage the day without mom. We entered Animal Kingdom and immediately my dad was fascinated by the Vine lady. After being officially creeped out by her, we moved on. I was texting someone at this point, I remember.

On our way to Mount Everest, we stopped to see the monkeys. We look up, and our dad is gone. We ride a little to find him when I decide, "Let me call him". My blackberry is gone (you can tell this story is from 2 years ago being that I'm carrying a blackberry).. Immediately I scramble. Never have you seen a person with a broken foot jump and standup faster as I felt around my pockets. NOTHING. My blackberry was gone. I immediately sent an email to my phone - an app, coincidentally I had set up before leaving for the trip, that locks your blackberry if lost and sends a message to call a phone number when found. The problem: it listed my home phone number.

**Quick side note - my blackberry was about a year old and the battery was HORRIBLE. It was basically a race against time in which I found myself in a much less serious version of the movie Taken to find my phone

After calling multiple times, I got a guy who was hard to understand with his accent and the back noise. He hung up and as I kept calling, would not answer. I believed that my blackberry was a gone-er for sure. I tried lost and found to no avail. Well, we did Mount Everest being that we had a fastpass, then headed back to the room as I was in a very foul mood.

Around 11pm, before going to bed, I figured "let me try one last time to call my phone before the battery probably dies"... He picks up. The guy gives me his address which is in a gated community in Celebration Florida. It was impossible to find, and after we finally did, we get to the gated community and would not be let in without a name or address. (He gave use the address to the community).. Well, the guy would not give us his name or address (totally understandable). After we handed my sister's phone to the guard, the gentleman told him his address and we went in. Finally, after over 12 hours of H*LL, I had my phone back. :woohoo: ... The next day my sister caught what my mom had.... two days later, on NYE, I too caught the bug. Overall, health-wise (especially mental health, a horrible trip.... but we salvaged it!

Don't plan to go from a park to DTD directly if you can help it. And if you do have to, try not to come up on the fly with a way to get there through a resort (SSR) you've never been to :)

Also, just because the DTD map you're looking at has omitted Goofy's Candy Co., this does not mean that the store has been removed :)

Besides the losing things, or leaving things behind, the biggest goof was thinking that the crowds aren't bad, and it's not so bad to park at TTC and get to MK ... went one time, arrived at TTC around 11am, and waited for about an hour to get on a boat to MK (no monorail service in the middle of the day). The better alternative would have been the resort bus service (no matter that I was staying at Kidani Village on the western edge of WDW property). Golden Rule - ALWAYS take the Disney transportation service between your resort and MK.

ps. In the lost/left behind category - my Dad had his glasses, in a case, on his food tray at a food court, and after the meal, threw everything in to the trash can. In less than 15 min. time, realized he didn't have his glasses, went back to the foodcourt, CM looked through trash can, but the liner had just been changed ! CM also looked through some of the bags that had been taken away. No luck on finding his glasses.

1) Do check your pockets before doing a load of laundry mid-week.

2) Don't forget to take a picture of the back of all of your tickets so you can get replacements if needed.

3) Do have the number for UndercoverTourist handy if you do not remember to to 1 & 2!

(Also, when your hubby tells you that it's going to be OK, believe him instead of sobbing "IT IS NOT GOING TO BE OK!")

Amen! That was my mistake on our very first trip - I left my wallet in our room safe and didn't realize until we were boarding the ME for the airport. Dh stayed behind and through an amazing act of fate was able to get my wallet because the next room occupants had checked in and were in the room (I guess they don't allow you back into the room after you have checked out if someone else has it booked). Lovely Disney comped dh's taxi to the airport as we had gone ahead and left on the ME....he actually made it to the airport before we did!

I've heard that the trick to avoid leaving anything behind in the safe is to place 1 shoe (depending on size of the safe) in the safe, because typically when you are packing things up, you'll notice the other shoe is missing its mate, and then remember the safe.

I was so embarrassed standing in line to buy a 25$ Minnie watch and my card being declined. I knew I had the money. Lesson learned!

Flip you card over and call the CC company immediately using the information on the back of your card. even after hours someone is available to get it straitghtned out. I do this everytime I have ever been declined and I have it sorted out in about 5 minutes.

Almost forget this great little tidbit: bring your ponchos along every day, even if DW makes fun of them and complains about them. That first time you need them and don't have 'em is killer! Boy can it rain down there!

I chuckled when I read this. On our last trip after days of taking the ponchos and not needing them my husband decided we weren't taking the ponchos b/c they were taking up too much space in the bottom of the stroller. Yes, that was the day it poured on us.

That's a silly but great idea! I think I'll try this! I forget everything! Thanks for sharing! :)

I eat out every night and standardly leave a rather large tip; the bartenders are like my second family and I am like their second mom.

Last year, I traveled with a large group for the first time. Of course, with groups over six have automatic 18 % tip. We were on the dining plan and my traveling companions were on a budget, so I did not want to show them up with ordering an app, glasses of wine, etc. I would do that later with "me" time.

But I forgot. My bill came and I naturally put down my standard tip.

The server came back and very discreetly handed me the slip and said, "are you sure?" I shooed him away. He again said he really could not accept such a generous tip and pointed out I had already been charged a standard 18 percent tip. He even printed out another slip and let me destroy the other one.

As we were leaving, he walked by, smiled and said, thank you, I was very flattered, but I did not want you to give me a double tip.....what a sweetie.

Be careful on steps, especially in the pool area. You don't want to be like me, slip and fall, break your foot, and have to be carried out of Disney World in an ambulance.

You're right; That's one ride I don't care to experience!

One trip I left my claddagh ring (a gift from a friend all the way from Ireland) on the sink in the room on the last day. Realized it in MK and called the resort. Went by before heading home and filled out a description card. Never heard anything. :worried:

A few months later my then BF (he and I had started talking on the very trip where I lost the ring) bought me a new one for Christmas, shipped all the way from Ireland. We aren't together anymore, but that was probably one of the most thoughtful gifts I've ever received. :goodvibes

Where to even start lol

Ok, first off, last summer, I lost my KTTW not once, but TWICE . . . First time, I left it behind on the table at the Rainforest Cafe' in DTD. I figured it out just a few minutes later, and hustled it back across DTD to retrieve it. Thankfully, it was there waiting for me, and was handed over with no questions asked, almost a little too easily, they probably should have asked me for at least some kind of id.

Second time, it was sorting through the junk in my pockets, sitting on the wall outside of the Sci-Fi Dine-In theater. I went through everything three times, stood up and looked around on the ground, on the wall, under my but, nothing, nada. I asked probably five times did anyone else in the group pick up my card, no, no one picked it up. We had lunch, I used my wife's KTTW for it, then I marched up to guest services to get a new card issued. We went through probably another 5 or 6 days in Disney, then drove home to NY. A couple of weeks later, I had two KTTW at my home in NY, amazingly, still no one would admit to having picked up the one I "lost" at DHS lol.

2010, DD15's friend came on the trip. I gave very specific directions when she was packing that there would be more walking than she could ever imagine, she needed to bring a couple of pairs of shoes that she would be comfortable walking long distances in. The first day she was there we were in MK, and she spent the evening with us. The following morning, we went to AK, and spent the day there, then took the bus, which we intended staying on all the way to the Poly, but DS needed the bathroom urgently, so we hopped off at the Contemporary, used the bathrooms then grabbed the monorail over to the Poly for supper at Ohana. While at the Poly, awaiting our ADR time, DD's friend tells us that her feet are killing her. She had been wearing flats, which, when I saw them the previous day, I told her were going to cause her blisters, but she insisted that they were super comfy for walking in. We bandaged her up as best we could with mole skin. After supper, we hopped back on the monorail to MK, where we grabbed the bus back to POR. The next day, in MK, I wound up with DS6 sitting on DD's friends lap, in the stroller, while I pushed them both around. It was a couple of days before she was really able to walk well again.

So far, I've touched on losing things / leaving them behind, and foot wear, but I'm not done lol

If you have a camera with a removable lens cap, it WILL get removed at the wrong time, like by someone bumping into you in the stretching room at the Haunted Mansion, regardless of the fact that you have a flash light, and wait until pretty much everyone else has left the room to move on, you will not find it, so put the lens cap on a keeper strap BEFORE your trip and save yourself the grief of having to trek to Lost and Found to retrieve it. (not that this has ever happened to me lol)

And a word about hydration, or the lack there of . . . first I'm going to tell you a story lol. Last summer, DW and I, DS7, DD16 and her BFF(16) piled into our 1994 Honda Accord for the drive from NY to Disney (don't even ask how we all fit). With three ladies, a pre teen son, and me on blood pressure medicines, bathroom stops come all together too frequently. In the interest of keeping said stops to a minimum, I didn't drink a lot during the drive. We spent all day Saturday on the road, driving into Manning South Carolina where we stopped for the night. The next morning, we drove into Disney, arriving at POR right around 1:00 in the afternoon. We had lunch at the Riverside Mill, then got our stuff into the room. It was probably around 4:00 or so when we got on the boat to go to DTD where we had reservations for supper. About halfway through the boat ride I started sweating profusely, then I stopped sweating, and got kind of cold and clammy, even though I knew it was hot out, stomach got upset, and I generally felt like pooh.

I very quickly realized that I hadn't had much to drink the past two days on the ride down, and was probably dehydrated. I gave DW some cash, and told her as soon as we get off the boat, go find me a bottle of water, which she did. I poured that down pretty quickly, then found a water fountain near a bench. I took up residence, with DS refilling the water bottle for me every couple of minutes. It took about a half an hour before I was really feeling well again, but thankfully I was fine after that.

Lesson is, first, KEEP HYDRATED! Second, know the warning signs when you are dehydrated, and do something about it. Get out of the heat if you can, and get plenty of water to rehydrate yourself. That could easily have become a much bigger problem for me. Thankfully, I realized what was happening, got some water, and felt fine a short time later.

My final bit of advice: When making ADR's, I suggest you set up something like an excel chart that shows each day, each meal, where and when it is. On our first trip, we added an extra person to our party pretty shortly before our trip, and as a result, I had to make all new ADR's. Unfortunately, I wasn't that organized, and it wasn't until we were in EPCOT, finishing up our late lunch that I realized we had an early supper ADR that day. I tried guest services, but no luck, we were stuck with the early ADR. Keep track of the times of your meals, and make sure that they work well not only with parades, and shows, but with each other. Have supper just 3.5 hours after you have lunch . .

If there is no line, do NOT ride Space Mountain 10 times in a row.

If someone in your group is expecting an important message (job offer, college admission, etc.) during your trip, do NOT ask about it while in the parks or else you might have CMs wondering why someone is crying profusely...

Oh, by the way, she did get into her first-choice school... :thumbsup2

Never, ever play hopscotch in EPCOT. No matter how cute it seems to hop in the UK, it really isn't worth a broken foot.

Brilliant!:thumbsup2

My mistake was not to discuss what to do if got lost. We all adults now and I used to mark some check points in case of getting lost before phones but did not do it for years.
We were exiting MK after fireworks crowds. I do not know how it happened. one moment my mom and DD were right behind me and as I exited they were gone. I stood there and waited for good 10 min then I thought what if they exited from the other exist for some reason and just did not see me. I am looking around, they are not there. Let me point out that all our phones in my bag(very smart, I know) and all the phones are dead.
I start panicing because parks are technically closed and I do not know if they are inside anyway.
So I think maybe they decided to wait for me at the bus, so I go all the way to the CBR stop which is of course one of the farest one. They are not there. I do not know what to do. Somewhere in my head is crazy idea that they left to resort, after all we all adults, right, but what if they did not.
I walk back and just seat at the beggining of the walkway to buses, so I cannot miss them if they are there. Finally I see them walking with CM who was helping them find me. They called my phone from parks but phones were dead. My DD was quiet scared, she was sure I was inside and something just happened to me.
Anyway, moral of the story, do not rely on phones. Make checkpoints, discuss where you meat, and make sure you all are there when you exit park.

Never, ever, let kids drink chocolate milk in June right before getting on Splash Mountain. :crazy2: :rotfl2:

Ugh... I can just imagine! Not that I want to! :crazy2: LOL

Another oops for me is not allowing enough time to get to an ADR from another park. Had one in Mexico in WS in EPCOT. We were in Fantasyland waiting in line for something (BTMR?) and realized out ADR was in 45 min. THANKFULLY we we could hop the monorail, but we had to BOOK IT, and we were STILL late PLUS we were hot and nasty and it just totally ruined the enjoyment of the meal.

There is a bench outside of Raglan Road with a sculpture of a man reading a newspaper sitting on it. I thought it would make a cute photo if I sat on his lap. DO NOT DO THIS! It is slippery and I flew off backwards, conking my head into the pavement. I came to with a crowd gathered around and a CM asking if I wanted to go to the ER. I did not want to go to the ER because we had a fun night at PI planned, but I had a good sized egg on my head for the rest of the trip and quite a headache the next day. Definitely my most embarrassing Disney moment!
