Backstory- up until my dad, my paternal family was a family of collector's. We recently lost my grandmother, and, quite simply, we don't want all this stuff. Now there are things that have sentimental value to us and that we will keep, but we just don't want it all. Not even most of it.
The problem is that everything is mixed together. Honestly, we can't tell the difference between a dollar store candy dish and a 100yr old piece of cut glass. Okay, maybe we can to some degree, but with old plates and other collectables it is difficult to determine what is of value, and what goes to the yard sale.
So the options I have figured... an auction. However, we live more in a rural area and I'm not sure there would be enough demand for the items we have. Ebay... but I don't know what I'm selling. An antiques dealer, but how can we tell if we a being "ripped" off? Maybe more than one dealer? An appraisor? How much does something like that cost? What about jewelry? There is old costume jewely and old real pieces- does a jeweler assess that, or an antique appraiser? How can I tell if something is real or not?
I really wish the Antiques Road Show would park themselves right outside the house.
(On a Disney related note, I found a pair of earring my grandpa bought my grandma 25yrs ago from Epcot. Still in the original box, with the receipt. It was sweet to look at, and brought back memories of my visits to WDW with my grandparents, who lived in FL my whole childhood)
