I'm having severe withdrawal symptons as I haven't a WDW holiday booked, (money just won't allow at the moment  ) but am contemplating the idea of going next May - maybe just for a week - after the kids have finished their SATS.

What is the weather like at that time of year? I can't bear stifling heat, and how are the crowds?

I was thinking of keeping an eye out for a bargain deal at that time, anyone any idea if these sort of things tend to exist around that time of year?

Thanks :)

Hi Astrid,

we went in May last year - if you look in the brochures then it's one of the cheaper times to travel.

It is hot - not as hot as June, but I would imagine it's significantly hotter than Feb/March time.

We did find that the crowds were quite low, we were quite surprised by the difference with June.

We went in May 98 on honeymoon and weather was great. High eighties, only rained one afternoon in two weeks. Crowds were "low" early morning, but did get busy later in the day.

Hi Astrid

We went in May '99, our first ever trip, and I remember how the heat hit us as we walked out of the airport! I am not good in the heat, and was thinking, 'How am I going to survive!'. The Mears driver said that Summer had come early - I think we arrived on May 6 or thereabouts.

I did manage though, as all the building are air-conditioned in WDW and if I got too hot I went into a shop (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!). The worst place was Sea World, the long walk back to the car park with no shelter, I thought I was going to die!

I wouldn't go again at that time of year, as the children found it too hot also, it really depends how your are in the heat, but as you say you can't bear it, it doesn't sound as though you would cope very well.

Then again, the weather may be cooler next May, but it's very unpredictable isn't it?

Cheapest time to go is January and early December from what I have seen on my travels! ;)

HTH :D

We've been once in early May (1996) and I found the heat and the crowds similar to those in October - low crowds, hot but not unbearable, and no rain to speak of. Statistically they are similar in terms of crowds and weather too.

Astrid - we LOVE May - been during May the last two years and before that it was early June. From what we've been told by a number of holidaying American's in Florida, May is one of the best times to go.

I only hope our trip this October gives us the weather, crowds etc that we've been used to in May. Yep, it's hot, but no where near as summer. Go as early after SATS as you can because the American schools start to break up for their 3 months summer vacation from mid-end of May onwards.

Wouldn't hesitate to go there again . . . thinking about it for next year already

Hi,
May gets my vote too.It can be warm but then thats why I go to Florida! Also in the past it has been very dry too.We usually fly with Virgin and find it is a lot cheaper (about £150 p/p)to depart the UK at the end of April as the fares seem to increase on the 1st of May.Most of the parks were very quiet and wait times very short.

As you know, Janice and I went in late May this year and had very untypical weather for May! They seemed to have had the usual May weather in April and we had temperatures and humidity that are more the norm for March!!!!

It certainly heated up towards the end of the week but at first it was in the 70s and the evenings were very cool, but towards the end of the week, it was high 80s.

This may not be of much help because I know that normally May can be very hot but it does show you can never be absolutely certain!

Astrid

We will probably be going back in May next year - can''t get Paul to commit to this yet as he'll only decide come gloomy January and then he'll be expecting me to plan a holiday with only 4 months to do it in!!!

However May this year was great we were there 4th-11th and the weather, we were told, was unusually hot and quite humid. I'm used to going in October, November and the heat was the same but the humidity was a bit heavy still I just took more water and more rest room breaks;)

That said we had a great time the parks weren't as busy as I had expected having previously been at quieter times and we didn't have to be in line for long. It reminded me a little of my trip in September 96, attendance and weather wise.

So yes I would go back in May - fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I'm going to find out exactly when the kids' SATS are next year and then I'll get on the look out for a cheapie holiday.

The heat/humidity does bother me, but, as Sam says as long as we're aware that it could be hot then I'll just take more breaks and drink a load more! :) And the fact that it appears the Parks are quiet does appeal!
