What is it about 40?

Remember when Crystal Carrington from Dynasty made that commercial and said 40 is fatal. That had to be over 25 years ago.

I thought Crystal looked good for someone 40, but I felt 40 was really old.

My youngest is graduating 8th grade in a few weeks and weare still one of the youngest parents, when they took a survey.

I was 34 when my oldest graduated from 8th grade and 38 when he graduated from h.s.

When Callie graduates from h.s. I will be 46 and experience totally empty nest syndrome. (hopefully).

You must be over 40....you forgot what you were going to say, didn't you! :p

I can remember when it was getting close to my 40th birthday and some of my co-workers were teasing me about going over the hill and such, my doctor happened to be in the chart room at the same time. He looked at me and said "Don't worry about turning 40. Lots of people never make it that far."

I have never been one ot lie about my age, first because I thnk it's stupid, and second because I don't knwo too many people in the world who actually look so good that if your were trying to guess their age, you wouldn't be ableto guess it within 5 years or so.

I am 42. If I walked up to 3 differnet people and said "Guess my age", I 'd probably hear "38 or so" "40 or so" and "44 or so". I don't see what difference it makes if someone thinks I'm 2 year s younger or 2 years older than I actually am.

See if this makes sense: 40 years ago, 40 was old. People live a lot longer now, so "middle age" is probably closer to 50. My mother is 90, and she's been thinking she'd pass away "any time now" for the past 30-40 years. She too thought 40 was old;)
As long as you can go to WDW and enjoy yourself, age doesn't make much difference::yes::

I wouldn't know, ask me in about 10 years. :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Actually, getting old isn't that bad. It sure beats the heck out of the alternative.:teeth:

What's wrong with turning 40?NOTHING!

...an guess what? turning 50 is even...BETTER!

I'm 53...my health is GREAT!....i stay active...actually we stay active...DW and myself....

at these ages...you can already look back and see how much you've already accomplished....

kids through school...we all have good jobs....homes...benefits...etcetera...

now...there is also Grandkids...a main reason I THINK i am still youthful...lol...at the very least....I am "life zesty"....

Sure, there are times life deals you a harsh blow...gettng older deals the harshest blow... I buried My Mom & Pop.
2 Brothers and a Sister...

But, the rest of the family is still here...and we try to enjoy what time we have...we are tight...."Togetherness" is a way of life for us and not just a word...

And when a time comes that DW & I need to hit the road....a vacation..business...what have you...we do...we go..

We have earned a certain freedom I think....

Anyway, with the way the 40's were.....nd as fun as the 50's are....and especially the good times with the Grandkids....

I make you this promise....when I am in my 80's...and some "young whippersnapper" great, great grandkid of mine whoops me at "Haunted Mansion Clue"...I'll post on an age thread...any age thread...

"GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY LIFE!"

...you can accomplish a lot that way IMO....

:) :) :)

Oh please this summer I'll be turning (shhhhhh) 50. :earseek:

But the good thing is I do not feel it, yes I am over weight, but loving life. Have two great kids in college, a loving husband and two happy dogs to help make my life complete. We all have our health, family, friends, both of us have jobs, and a roof over our head. And best of all in 43 days we will be in WDW.:jumping1:

So remember it is only a number. I just recently had someone approach me in a doughnut parking lot (yes, I know not very healthly LOL) and they remarked how they recognised me from high School and that I really had not changed that much.:goodvibes Too bad I could not say the same, He was much larger, lost all his hair and looked nothing like back in school. I did not even know who he was. I felt real bad at that point as I had to ask his name. I guess living on the wild side takes it toll over time.

So when you hit forty, celebrate, do the happy dance, it is a new point in your life. Make them think that turning forty is pretty ok.

Well, as a brand new 40'er, just got older yesterday, I'll tell ya it's no big deal. I don't feel any different today than I did when I was in my 30's. As a matter of fact, I'm in better shape now than I was 10 years ago.

As an about-to-be 40 year old I plan to celebrate. The number itself is not a big deal to me ,I'm going to celebrate all that I have to be grateful for - myparents, my husband, my beautiful children, my friends.

It's been a great journey to this place in my life. I'm looking forward to all that lies ahead.

At 40 you know who you are and you like her. That is a gift.

Life is good!

At 47, I am still able to walk without a cane. You just have to learn to walk more carefully on an icy day. Those bones are more brittle now.

Seriously though, I am just glad to have lived long enough to see 47.

I had a friend who died of cancer at age 23. That sure puts things in perspective. She didn't live long enough to see her first gray hair. I've learned to be thankful for each and every one of them. At least I've lived long enough to get them!

40??......................I would love to be 40...............again!

Turning 40 didn't bother me in the least. I think my kids keep me feeling young.

Now 30, OTOH, absolutely freaked me out:hyper: I don't know why, but at that point, I felt REALLY old. What an idiot:crazy:

We did have a great 30th birthday celebration though. I say we because DH and I are born 5 days apart so before we had kids we used to go to Disney World in October every year for our joint birthday celebration. (Once the kids were school age, we had to change our vacation month, of course.) Well for #30, we flew in a hot air balloon over the area and then had a wonderful champagne brunch afterward. It was a magical birthday and made turning 30 lots easier!

46 here. Never gave a second thought when I turned the "big" 40. It's just another day. And I feel proud when I'm asked my age and I can reply w/no regrets. I've got a zillion other things to think about.

heck if you haven't done it by 40, it's on YOU!

Yes, that is what bugs me. ::yes:: There are a few things I need to get caught up on. I am working on it but not quite there.

I am 39 going to be 40 in Feb...

I turned 50 this winter and except for a little arthritis pain here and there....I feel great and am thankful I've made it to the Half Century mark. It's not all that bad as long as I can keep laughing and having a good time.:D

Enjoy 40!:bounce:

Me too. Feb. 19 - maybe we're twins separated at birth! That might explain our both being here on these boards so much.;)

I'm 39, turning 40 in July. I have mixed emotions about it -- on one hand I love that I am taken seriously now that I've matured, on the other, I miss being a young woman. Either way, I like it better than the alternative. :p :)

I think anything above my age is old. The bar gets higher as I get older. ::yes::
