Specifically, what's in the Ice Wine Martini as served at Le Cellier? Do they use Inniskillen ice wine to make it? What else is in it? Thanks! :sunny:

Hmm, they may use the $19.95 version of ice wine they served at the inniskillin seminars last year, I doubt very much if they would use the expensive inniskillin for martinis, as that would be a horrible waste of a good wine.

I don't know what kind of ice wine they use, but I know the Le Cellier Icewine martini is a mix of ice wine and vodka (I think it's Iceberg, a Canadian vodka), served with an olive.

Next time I'm having them hold the olive. It made the drink taste a bit weird.

This is what I've always wondered, that's the Jackson-Triggs one. I think it's a waste of ice wine, otherwise.

An olive in ice wine? BLECH! LOL

I did a quick search earlier, and some recipes that I saw all said they take the ice wine, vodka, green grapes, and ice, and blend it in the blender, kind of like a smoothie. THAT sounded good. But it doesn't sound like what they serve at Le Cellier! :scratchin

Usining Inniskillen in a martini would be a waste of good ice wine? No way. LOL DH and I make mimosas out of Dom Perignon! And no, I'm not kidding :) We don't indulge in alchohol too often, but when we do, we like what we like, straight or mixed :sunny:

It's a tradition we started unintentionally on our honeymoon. lol DH surprised me with a bottle of Dom on our wedding day. The first night of our honeymoon we each had a glass, along with chocolate covered strawberries. The next morning we ordered room service. We saw that the orange juice was fresh-squeezed and simultaneously came up with the idea to use the rest of the Dom to make mimosas! We had our crystal champagne flutes with us, engraved with our names and wedding date on them, and that's what we used for the mimosas. I guess we spoiled ourselves right from the start. We've made mimosas using Dom on every single anniversary!

We've only known about Inniskillen ice wine for a little over a year. We had a bottle of it at dinner on the Disney Magic in August 2004. It was excellent and much better than ice wine we'd had previously. I know they have Inniskillen at Le Cellier, so we plan on having some when we have lunch there next month on our "adults only" trip, and I thought the "martini" sounded interesting :)

Wow - Iniskillen considered a good ice wine?

I'm from Ontario, where Ice Wine is made. I can tell you, some of what they serve (beer and wine) selections at Epcot for Canada are NOT the best we produce, but because of high volumes needed, really probably more like the "mass marketed and produced" stuff that they can ensure is supplied.

Try some better stuff some time, really!

An ice-wine martini, however, should never have an olive - ice wine is sweet!

Well down here in the US, a tiny bottle of Inniskillen Vidal ice wine costs about $70 or so. lol And we think it tastes great! Especially compared to some of the more locally grown ice wine.

What are some of the brands that you consider to be good ice wine?? :)

I'd like to know what Canadians think good ice wine is too! I've loved Iniskillan since the first time I had it 5 years ago. It's pretty expensive and my DH isn't that into it so I don't get to indulge in it often (Le Cellier here I come!). So if it's the bottom of the barrel (so to speak), please, Please, PLEASE tell me what I should be looking for instead.

has anyone actually had one of the ice wine matinis at Le Cellier or anywhere else on DW property? Do tell....

YIKES, if this is the bottom of the barrel, I can't afford the pricey stuff. $$$$

No, no, Inniskillin definitely isn't anywhere near the bottom of the barrel, ice-wine-wise. It rates highly with Wine Spectator - usually in the 90s, which means it's excellent. For the best ones, though, you have to go for German eisweins, usually.

Here's a listing from Wine Spectator. It's a couple years old, but it should give you a guideline:

I had the icewine martini. It was great once I fished out the olive. :)

I still for the life of me don't understand why they put that in there. It must have been a mistake. It definitely tasted like one!

I had the ice wine martini at the expensive italian restaurant at Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal (I can't remember the name.) It was good, very sweet with grapes in it. It was $25 and having tasted one, I'll stick to either ice wine or vodka, but not mixed.

Yum... Ice wine. One of my favorites from the Food & Wine Festival. I had to stop every time we passed Canada to get a glass. Man, I wish I were going again this year!

I actually found a small bottle of ice wine at our local Anderson's that I bought last year for my SIL for Christmas. She had enjoyed the ice wine at the F & W festival too. :earboy2: DH surprised me with a bottle of raspberry ice wine which I still haven't opened. Gosh, maybe this weekend would be a good time to try it!

OHHH...that sounds heavenly! :flower:

We went on holiday to Toronto in August, and did a wine tour of some of the wineries where they make Ice Wine. There are lots of small producers that only sell from their shops on site, which make excellent Ice Wines.

Inniskillin wines are definately not bottom of the barrel though, they still seem to rank as one of the top makers.

As a comparson to the small producers we also visited Jackson-Triggs. They may be a huge operation, but some of their reserve Ice Wines are excellent too.

What was really interesting was the different grapes that they make Ice Wine from, not just Vidal, but even red wine grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon.

My personal favourite was a tiny winery called Riverview, or something like that.
