What is everyone buying for tween girls?

I just did! It looks really cool and my is always asking for a locked diary.

She's getting a laptop for Christmas so I thought this would be perfect to go with it.

I buy things little by little when I see great sales/clearance and put them away to divide up during the year. There may be a few other little items but until I get into that closet, I can't remember!

ETA: I did buy her the Password Journal she's wanted but due to horrible reviews in another thread, I'm returning it.

DD11 is in many ways more of a tween than teen!

She knows what Uggs are - I won a pair last year, but she isn't into them or the purses. Webkinz is another matter. I may get her a pair of slipper boots that look like Uggs type for around the house.

Heh, I guess I should consider myself lucky that my DD13 isn't really into the materialistic stuff. I have been nagging her to tell me what she wants, in between making sure she knows that things are tight for us. The only thing she's said so far is that she'd like me to put the gift money towards surgery for her dog, to remove a tumor she has in her neck that we've been saving towards.

I'm not judging anyone by any means, but the thought of a 12 year old with a Blackberry makes me shudder. I've watched my daughter get to school and fling her backpack into the corner... she has a cellphone (DH works for a cellphone company so we only use cells, since it's MUCH cheaper) but even with our employee discount I wouldn't spend that much on a phone for her at this age!

It's great that so many people still have the means to be able to get such wonderful things for their kids! I imagine the kids must feel very lucky come Christmas morning!

They are very cute. Go to www.theflip.com and look at the Minos. You can even generate a cover pattern or upload your own picture for it.

This has been helpful. My DD is on (8) but all she is asking for is a webkinz and the Indiana Jones movies. That makes it hard. I will be getting her a few other things like shuffle and DS, but we are not going to buy things just to buy them. This year will definetly be slimmer than in years past.

Nope, not a bit. I enjoy shopping for my kids and surprising them at Christmas. We set a budget and don't go over, ever. My DDs are both too young to care about the designer brands, cell phones and computers that other people have posted about, but I will scour for deals to get them what they want within our budget when the time comes. Even my 5-year old understands that she won't get everything she asks for, but we will try to get some favorites.

If it fits the budget, I can't think of a better use of Christmas money than to give a gift that will surprise and thrill someone else.

I love these. Costco has the Flip Mino (not HD) in the warehouse for $149. It comes with a soft pouch, but they all might come with that. I had planned to get a cool personalized one on the website, but I didn't want to pay the $30 extra over the Costco price. If Flip has a Black Friday deal, I might have to take the Costco one back!

Good to hear that my DD13 and DD12 are not the only ones without cell phones. Last year, DD13 insisted that she was the only 7th grader who didn't have one. She is now in 8th grade and has given up complaining!

DD13 is getting a Asus EEE laptop. DD12 is getting a digital camera. Both are also getting a DS game and several Wii games. I will probably get a Itunes gift card for them as well (they love those!) Other than that, probably a few smaller items. I am having a hard time coming up with some cheap smaller items! It is so much harder now that they get an expensive item. I know they will want to open numerous presents! Oh, and I am also toying with the idea of giving DS12 an AG gift certificate to use when we visit NY after the holidays.

Yes, DD soon to be 11 is not going to see this thread! I know, I'm a Scrooge mom. Our family just isn't into big gifts--we'd rather know we have the $$ saved away.

Keep your fingers crossed. I know she'd be happy with a regular Flip, but I really prefer the HD and the Hello Kitty part is a surprise. We'll be on a trip over Christmas, so this will be a neat thing for her to use while there.
