What is / are your favorite 1 or 2 lines from a song?

...And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, they're sharing a
drink they call loneliness
But it's better than drinkin' alone.

-Billy Joel

Dance hall girls were the evenin' treat
Empty cartridges and blood lined the gutters of the street
Men were shot down for the sake of fun
Or just to hear the noise of their forty-four guns
And there's fire on the mountain, lightnin' in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there

Marshall Tucker Band.

YAY to all the Smiths/Morrissey fans!

"So, for once in my life, let me get what I want. Lord knows it would be the first time." The Smiths from the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack

"I can't remember all the times I've tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass." Counting Crows "Long December"

My friends gave me the Smiths Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2 for my birthday last year. I love them! I had all of their stuff on cassette (yes, I'm old) so I am slowly replacing it all with CD's.

"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" Bob Seger in Against the Wind

".... looking for my lost sugar and salt"...
"some people say there's a woman to blame...
but i know.....
it's my own *amn fault" :)

- brings me back to the "old peachweb plantation" days LOL
made many-a-friend there and learned A LOT about servers.

My favorite Smith's song...

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

"Well I'm gonna find a way
To wrap you in my arms
You make me feel alive"
- Unstoppable , The Calling

It's hard to do only one or two lines.....here are two of my favorites:

Our lives, are better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
But I'd have had to miss, the dance.

-The Dance, Garth Brooks

Remember when
We vowed the vows and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

-Remember When, Alan Jackson

::yes::

And while we're at it...

"If I made you cry, please tell me why, I'll try again if you'll let me try..."

"It's 4:30 A.M. on a Tuesday
It doesn't get much worse than this
In beds in little rooms in buildings in the middle
of these lives which are completely meaningless
Help me stay awake, I'm falling..."

"I dreamt I saw you walking up a hillside in the snow, Casting shadows on the winter sky as you stood there counting crows, One for sorrow, two for joy, three for girls and four for boys, 5 for silver, 6 for gold, 7 for the secret never to be told..."

"You try to tell yourself the things you try tell yourself to make yourself forget"

"I dream of Michelangelo when I'm lying in my bed
Little angels hang above my head and read me like an open book
Suck my blood, break my nerve offer me their arms
Well, I will not be an enemy of anything
I'll only stand here Waiting for you..."

"Step out the front door like a ghost
into the fog where no one notices
the contrast of white on white.
And in between the moon and you
the angels get a better view
of the crumbling difference between wrong and right."

----- Some of my various favorite Counting Crows lyrics.

I love that song! The lyrics in that song are great.

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year...

"Wish You Were Here"
Pink Floyd

"..its five o' clock SOMEWHERE!"

"money's contraband, you can't take it with you when you go..." - J. Buffet

One day you're gonna have to face

That deep, dark, truthful mirror

And it's gonna tell you things that I still

Love you too much to say

I am one of the least sappy, sentimental people ever, but several of their songs bring me to tears. Round Here is one of them.

Anna Begins is one of them too. I can't even pick a few lines. The whole song just gets to me. It reminds me of someone I used to know.

I was going to say all of "Round Here," "A Murder of Crows," and "Anna Begins" by Counting Crows. They are on my top ten list of favorite songs EVER. I also love "Alien" by Bush, "H" by Tool and "Lately" by Stevie Wonder. I can't pick just one line from each, they are all lyrically and musically perfect.

Other than those, I like:

"And it hurts to want everything and nothing at the same time..."
(Michelle Branch, "Goodbye to You")

"You take these pretty photos, when will you be worthy of your good side?"
(Bush, "Monkey")

"Every word you never said echoes down your empty hallway..."
(MB 20, "The Difference")

"I could hide out under there---I just made you say 'underwear'"
(Barenaked Ladies, "Pinch Me")

"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen " - Led Zeppelin

"Nothing matters and what if it did." - Lou Reed

"Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tight
She's gonna make it through the night
Some silicone sister
With her manager mister
Told me I've got what it takes
She said, I'll turn you on sonny to something strong
Play the song with the funky break
And go-kart Mozart
Was checking out the weather chart
To see if it was safe outside
And little Early Pearly
Came by in her curly-wurly
And asked me if I needed a ride." - Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Me too, I was posting when you were! Anna Begins is my absolute favorite CC song ever, followed closely by Round Here and A Murder of Crows. I usually can't listen to Round Here without the waterworks starting. Doesn't stop me from listening though. I'm usually all dried out by the time Mr. Jones starts though.

"I could change my life to better suit your mood" - Rob Thomas is a guy that "gets" women!

"Goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rock-a-bye sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams" - my favorite song, James Taylor

EsmereldaX -

I am SURE that Adam Duritz is my soulmate, but DH gets horribly offended when I say that out loud.

I love all of the Counting Crows CD's. I am also a huge fan of 10,000 Maniacs (Natalie Merchant). It is rare that I rush out and buy a new CD - I like the existing stuff.

Although it is April the 3 year old I nanny asks for "Halloween music" every time we get in the car. So we listen to, what else? "The Nightmare Before Christmas"!

"My compliments from me to you on this your most intriguing hat! Consider though this substitute, a bat in place of this old rat. Oh, no, no, no now that's all wrong! This thing will never make a present! It's been dead for much too long! Try something fresher, something pleasant! Try again! Don't give up!"

Ha ha! Maybe I will have the whole thing memorized for my October trip! I'll be the one in the Jack T-shirt spouting lyrics! :rotfl:
