i have seen it mentioned on 3 posts now what is it ?? do you need it ??

No, you don't need it. Basically, when you go into the Disney parks and water parks, they have official WDW photographers who can/will take photographs of you and your family. All of these pictures can be put onto a photopass card, which you can then check, edit and order prints, souvenirs or a CD containing all of your photos) online at http://www.disneyphotopass.com/

There are also 'special' photos you can have taken where they will superimpose a character/image onto a family picture.

ETA: Here is a link to some more info, including details about the 'special' pictures.

Once you have taken some time to go through the links posted by Wayne and Joh, you will have more questions about it. My suggestion is to start a thread on here and ask them. While there are threads on the topic all over the main boards on this forum, when you start researching and gathering information on something new like this for the first time, being faced with read-it-yourself on vast threads often with hundreds of posts, it is too daunting to be of any help.

It is so much easier to ask the questions that are relevant to you as you think of them and let the answers build up, leading to further questions and answers stage by stage.

In other words, hope to see you soon on here with your questions :goodvibes

so its just a way of buying all your official disney photos in advance ?

Well you dont have to buy in advance. You can get a card or cards and have the pics taken when there and then view them onine when you get back and decide if you still want to purchase them. However there is a significant saving to be benefited from by pre purchasing. Did you have a look at those links Wayne and Joh posted for you? There is a lot of information in there and some really lovely examples :goodvibes

looking now, so this photo pass is something you arrange once you are there rather than before you leave ??

and you can have photos taken and put on the ccard for no charge and you only pay when u decide to buy any pictures off the card ??? is that right

If you pay in advance it will cost $120, a saving of $50.

Once you are there you get a photopass card(from any photograper you see) they put as may pics as you want on that card (most we had was about 3,000 after editing)
When you get home you edit the pics, add borders etc you can then either download them or have them put onto CD's and posted, costs about $10 to post.

just to clarify, there are many ways to use photopass.

Photopass itself is just a system where everytime you see an official photopass photographer they will ask if you already have a photopass card and if not give you one. That card has a number on it which they scan. The photos they then take for you are linked to that number. You can re-use that card for your entire length of your stay or collect more cards if you accidently leave one in your room one day.

Before your trip, you CAN (but dont have to!) buy a pre-paid CD. IF you do this, then when you get home again you can go onto the photopass website and have all (or just the best) of the photos added to the CD and sent to you.

IF you choose not to do the pre-order, you can still use photopass in other ways. Whilst on your vacation I think you can go to several locations and get pictures printed from your photopass card - at a cost obviously! Or you can do that when you get home.

OR you can buy the CD after your vacation but not at the discounted pre-order rate.

Once that makes sense, you then might want to investigate photopass+. But I dont know much about that lol!

Its not going to benefit everyone, but if it works for you, it is going to be absolutely brilliant. I have already decided that's all I want for my birthday this year - and told my family not to buy anything. I just want a contribution to my PP+ upgrade and I'm smiling. So easy to please :rotfl2:
