What is a dummy date?!

I've been reading these forums for the last month or so and everyone keeps referring to a dummy date or dummy reservation. I have no clue what this means and am I missing out on something? Thanks.

It's a reservation for a future cruise, that, in all likelyhood, will be moved to a different date. Some people book these onboard for the furtherest out date they can, hoping that a new itinerary/cruise will come up before the paid in full date and they can move the booking to the cruise they really want.
