What if your side loses?

I think both sides lose with whomever is elected. I am so disgusted with this election. I am voting for Mickey Mouse.

Things should go back to the way they used to be , whomever gets more votes becomes president and the one with the least becomes vice president. Both sides would have to work together for the good of our country. We want unity for everyone, so it should really start from the top.

I don't understand why you say this. Are you saying Obama supporters are more violent or what?

I think that both sides are more afraid of what will happen if the other side wins, when in reality, I don't think we'd see a whole lot of difference in the long run.

I thought that back in 2000, and I was wrong. Gore would not have taken us to war with Iraq and that would have changed everything.

I also don't think Gore would have given tax breaks to the rich, which IMO have helped caused the financial problems we have now.

There will be a big difference in the make-up of the Supreme Court too.

There will be a big difference in the long run.

I shall rip my garment and curse this land and all of its people.

My curse shall descend from generation to generation, until the memory of Man runneth not to the contrary.

I shall call down fire and brimstone to burn all, and I shall call forth locusts to devour all sustenance from the land.

I shall bring forth boiling oil to despoil the water gushing out of the Springs of Hope. The udders of the cows will squirt in vain.

I shall then weep the bitterest of tears, for my side winneth not.

I shall then go back to the Disney board and begin my vengeance in earnest: I shall begin yet a new political thread!

And so shall it go on,

Forever.

I'm just happy that I have a choice. If my vote isn't enough to help my candidate win the election, then I will have to suck it up & move on. :confused3

What is bothering most about this thread so far is the fact that people have mentioned moving out of the country. I understand being fearful of the unknown (and let's face it - no one can tell for certain what things will be like a couple of years down the road), but to completely abandon your country based on who is living in the White House? :sad2: S/He doesn't control EVERYTHING.

This is basically saying that you are happy living in US, but only if it's run by ___________________ (insert your party here). Am I wrong, or is this NOT what being a democracy is all about. :confused3

Frankly, I worry if the Dems lose. Will there be rioting in the streets?

I have wondered this but I certainly I hope it doesn't come down to rioting.

If McCain doesn't win, I hope hope the Reps at least take control of the senate so Pelosi doesn't have so much control. That woman with her San Fran Fringe values really scares the crap out of me. :scared:

I would NEVER, EVER consider moving out of the country though, this is the greatest nation on earth.

There is an OS who claims he's moved out of the country (almost on a daily basis) because who is in the White House now. I don't get that either.:confused3 Personally, I would stay and fight.

If Obama wins I will pray for our country, take a big old breath, and give him a fair chance. I will wish him luck. If he wins it will mean the majority of America wants him. What can you do other than simply accept the will of the people?

Not really. I just mean the majority, or maybe even a plurality, that voted, wanted him.

And not even that for sure. It is possible that a Plurality of the people who voted wanted one or the other, but the electoral vote will decide it. It doesn't matter if you win a state by a single vote or get 100% of the vote, the number of electors is the same.

ETA: As to the op, I'll find a way to muddle though the next 4 years, knowing that my guy couldn't have fixed all of our problems in 4 years anyway. And hope that someone decent steps up to the plate the next go around from either side.

Oh, the electoral collage,,,,er college. But dont some states split their votes?

I won't be happy.
I will be frightened for the future of our country.
I won't move to another country, but I will be THRILLED that I live within reasonable driving distance of Mexico (even if I have to pay $30 a gallon for the gas to drive there :scared1: ) because you never know what sort of procedure I might need that will no longer be available here in the US.

Yep, Maine and Nebraska, for a total of 9 votes, neither is likely to determine anything.

I am voting for Obama/Biden, but I'd be perfectly happy with a McCain presidency as long as he stays healthy. If McCain wins I will pray long and hard and often that Palin never gets to exercise any real power. Bin Laden, Putin and Hu Jintao are giddy over the prospect of Commander-in-Chief Sarah Palin, and that makes me sick.

My side has lost the last two elections - I'm kinda getting used to it...;)

I'll be bummed for about a month, then interested in how McCain picks his cabinet with democrats in it. Then probably working toward Hillary 2012. ;)

Then I'll probably enjoy (from a political perspective) all the scandals Palin will bring with her.

As for those posters hoping the democrats won't riot - aren't the republicans the side with the guns? ;)

On a serious note - it won't be pretty if Obama gets a significant popular vote win compared to the electoral college win, should McCain get it.

If Obama ends up winning I won't freak out. I liked him as a candidate for a long time, but for his position on taxing "the rich". If he wins, I will immediately begin shifting my assets to minimize later capital gains tax hits that I will suffer from his tax hikes. I can't do a whole lot about my straight up compensation income tax, but I can position myself with respect to capital gains.

I´m not American and don´t live in the USA but I would be very sad if the Republicans win.

Honestly, I'm already budgeting for the extra $$$ that would come out of my paycheck if the Bush taxcuts aren't made permanent. I'd also be very nervous about coming to work for a while. I work about 3 blocks from the White House and I firmly believe that we will be attacked again in the first 6-12 months of an Obama presidency.

I will check out the Support Obama thread to see if all the Republicans post "Neiner! Neiner!" there as they did four years ago. ;)

I hope you're wrong. I work a similar distance from the White House and live downtown. I would prefer not to die.
