What if…

I am buying direct for the Blue Card for the same reason (VDH). Maybe a little FOMO too, but mainly the unrestricted points for new resorts. On my last two trips I was surprised how many places rejected my Disney VISA discount when dining out, so on this last trip to Disneyland I tracked my expenses and saved around $50 in discounts not covered by the Disney VISA. May seem small but over time these extra Blue Card discounts will add up. I didn’t know how much I would enjoy the exclusive lounges too! 😂
In many places the dvc discount is better than the magic key so I always say im dvc

I feel like it costs a lot more…50 per point adds up when it’s 200 points. I definitely don’t need Home advantage at Riviera.. I would just like the option to stay there and the others

Do you like 1 bedrooms? If so, that is where having home resort advantage can play a nice role to grab RV over PV.

Those extra points add up…with studios, the difference is manageable if you have to take PV.

I bought two BLT resale last year in summer then added Poly direct end of September. My trip is not until this June. Every time I want to buy more points, I come to the board to justify why I shouldn’t make any further decisions until we make to our trips in June. I almost agreed to an offer to Riveria resale thinking I don’t want to “waste” my direct points there when I can buy a cheaper points to stay. The reality is I would need to pay 12K -20K to be able to do that. Let those money sitting in bank along will give me enough return to get one night at riviera to experience. Why should I lock myself in for a commitment that I’m just imaging I would like. Haha. I agree make trips with what you have and enjoy before making any decision. AKL refurb looks great and great points for 1 bedroom. I’m so looking forward to stay in summer.

FOMO & the grass being greener on the other side is DVC marketing in action.
Membership benefits will change just as they have in the past. They are already rolling out ‘extra’ benefits like longer hours at the lounges for those willing to pay just a few dollars more per year. Maybe in the next couple of years the now free benefits will become even more monetized, just like formerly free FPs are now expensive LLs you pay for.
Initially OKW buyers got free park passes, it wasn’t that long ago that there were separate DVC APs & how discounted they were varied. For a while they weren’t even selling new APs to anyone.
The minimum number of points to qualify could change as well, it could go up as it has in the last several years (from 0 to the current 150) or, if the economy impacts DVC, maybe it’ll go down 🤷‍♀️.
The whole trust model of ownership could skew availability in ways we can’t predict diminishing the value of non home resort access - as it has in other timeshare systems.
If you want to stay at Riviera, rent some of those AKV points out & use the money to rent a Riviera reservation.
Meanwhile, start tucking away cash so that you’re ready to buy direct points when a new resort that you really want to own opens up.
