United States Citizen: What are the documentation requirements for the West Bound Transatlantic leaving from England? Is it just the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa? There are stops in Spain and Portugal, do they require something different?

We did not need visas with a US passport for Spain for our med cruise that left from Civitavecchia and ended in Barcelona this past summer in 2025.

US citizens entering the United Kingdom need an ETA document or Visa (https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/y/usa/tourism). This took effect last year, so you could apply online for the ETA now.

US citizens entering countries in the Schengen zone in Europe (which includes Spain and Portugal) will need an ETIAS document (https://etias.com/what-is-etias). This is being implemented in "late 2026" so it may or may not be necessary for a September cruise. The exact implementation date will be announced a few months in advance.
