What have you seen on the EA? (running thread)

Welcome back Yo! I can't believe we were that close to each other & didn't get to say "hey"! Everything about the EA happened so fast it was all like a blur. :p The only person I actually remember seeing was a guy standing next to a red PT near us....that wasn't you was it? Glad you were able to get your SUV, the PT worked out just great for us. I'm actually alittle disappointed that we didn't have to "wrastle" for a car! :p Hope to see your trip reports on the Disney & US boards. Oh, and Happy Father's Day!

We were there on June 6 about noon. EA only had Aleros and about 3 PTs. No vans, no SUVs, no full size. We actually had a full size reserved and there wasn't any bonuses over there either. But it was fun getting to pick what car you wanted. This was our first time using our Emerald Club benefits. I never thought of asking about getting something other than what was out there like coachYo.

What is the difference between regular and executive EA? Also, how do you get from one EA lot to the other? I never knew there were two. Does anyone have an opinion on what car we should hurry to if there are five of us with luggage and a sports equip bag?

Regular is Emerald Aisle. You get this service when you book an Intermediate size. You will probably get an Intermediate but could possibly get lucky but you can't count on it.

Executive Aisle is for frequent renters. You must rent enough (I think it's 12 rentals in a year) to qualify for this level. In this level you are guaranteed at least a Full size but could get better. This is more for business travelers.

I will never qualify for Executive Level as I only travel 2 times a year at the most!

I would not use Emerald Aisle with 5 people. You are only guaranteed an intermediate (grand am size) and there's no way 5 will fit if there are no upgrades available. Even if there were full sizes available, it would probably be too small. I would use Emerald Reserve and reserve an SUV or Mini-Van.

National has counters and garages on both sides of the airport A & B. See the map below:

The only level where you can cross over between the 2 sides is level 3 (where the trams come in from the gates).

Debbie,
The Impala, Intrepid, Century and Regal all hold 5 and their luggage quite well. Trust me on this one, we had 5 with a Regal, 5 with an Impala and 5 with an Intrepid and we fit with room to spare. These were 5 adults, including my daughter who packs like she is taking permanent residence at the vacation spot. :)

But there's no guarantees these models will be available on EA or even in the full size row. I used emerald reserve with full size in April with 3 friends. The biggest full size we could find was a Grand Prix (the full size row had mostly PT Cruisers, Buick Centuries). We couldn't get all our luggage in the trunk (ok, we don't pack light ;) ), one piece had to go in the back seat between 2 people. They could take a chance on a full size with 5 (especially if some are kids) but I wouldn't take a chance on EA (which the original poster wanted to do).

Definitely NOT EA for 5 people. But, I was responding to your comment on full sized cars. Buick Centuries would probably hold 5 lightish packers. :) The trunk on that is 16.7cubic feet same as the regal, but smaller than the Impala, Intrepid and Malibu/Classic.

I went to National web site to sign up for the EA and noticed there is a $50 charge. I dont travel enough to make this worthwhile. Is there a way around this? I did notice on mousesavers that had a link to sign up and that the $50 would be waived. Has anyone tried this? or have you paid the $50, or done something else to sign up?

Thanks,

I signed up using Mary's code with no charge and no problems.

I also do not travel enough to make it worth $50.00 but for free it is well worth it.

I joined EA back in 2001 with a free offer found on mary's site. My membership is good until 2037.

6/19 fullsize emerald reserve ~ we grabbed an impala!
Nice and roomy! Great car for the 5 of us!!! Thought of Gail every time we got in it! (that's not supposed to sound as sick as it does LOL)

Go through the site Mary has on her site. There is no charge for this. There is a statement about that right under the link on Mary's page. I was the one that found this out and I wrote Mary about the waiving of the charge.
