So far I have only stayed on WDW property 3 times. All 3 times I made room request when booking the package, through Disney. ALL 3 times I got GOTZ!

However the rooms I got were fine or even better than what I wanted (well maybe not in CBR).

My point is, if you dont make ANY room requests do they give you the WORST rooms available?????

Think you'll get whatever happens to be available when you check in.

Yeah, I'm thinking you get whatever is available. This last trip we made NO requests for a room/building and we arrived only to find out they had moved us from Movies to Sports because they thought we had to have a nonsmoking room.
??
I know this can't be true (and really they just overbooked- I heard them telling someone in front of us that they were booked solid and couldn't let them stay an extra night there) but the mgr told me that their policy is to book you in a nonsmoking room if you don't have a preference. Surely that can't be true... but that's the excuse he used to tell me why they moved me to another resort. When I told him it doesn't matter if it's a smoking room- his eyes got kinda big.. like uhoh, called my bluff. (he did end up giving us a smoking room at Movies)

I think from now on I'll request SOMETHING... so I don't get end of the "pile" so to speak and possibly end up in a different resort because of it! I would think they would first work on requests- what is left is what they'd give to those that don't have requests?

They should do the request first!!
Let me tell you, i work in a hotel (Front Desk manager for Marriott) and the smoking request can be confirm, as well as room type, double, king. Now other request like, view, location, connecting, that can be confirm but if we see in our request report that Mr.Smith wants a balcony room or a terrace room, we will do our best to find it.
When we are sold out and all non or smoking are already confirm to other guest, we do take the request but we cannot confirm it, now if you arrive to our hotel and you have a confirm reservation not a room type, you got a reservation and we sold all our rooms, we can put you in another hotel for only one night and we will take care of the charges, because is our fault, we sold your confirm room.

Working in a hotel i know all the tricks and things you can get and cannot, so requests are only that, request, but is better to ask for it.

Never made a request regarding room and each time we checked in we were given great rooms and several times upgraded. I think it's just the luck of the draw.

The only requests we ever make are non-smoking rooms. We have always lucked out with good to great rooms. Our last stay at the Boardwalk we got a quiet courtyard view and could see all the fireworks over Epcot. It was a great room.

We've never put any requests in except for non-smoking. Never once in 6 trips, and this is with split stays so total of at least 12 resorts.

Upon check-in is usually when I'll make some requests, maybe a room closest to the pool, or a room closest to the bus stop, etc. So far, in our trips:

AKL - booked AP standard, got deluxe bunkbed room with daybed, pool view
POFQ - booked AP standard, got building 5 right across from laundry and pool
CR - booked AP standard, got north garden wing, really close to food & fun center
WL - booked AP standard, got bunkbed room with view of VWL quiet pool
Dolphin - booked AP standard, got 11th floor view of the boat dock area, you can see the tips of World Showcase and MGMs towers.
BC - booked AP standard, got courtyard view about 5 rooms from the lobby, real convenient.

I personally don't like to make requests other than non-smoking beforehand. I just think it raises the level of expectation too high and then people get disappointed when they don't get all or any of their requests. If you don't have a request and you get one, it makes the trip all the more special.

All we requested was a non smoking room and we paid for a water view. Got a great room, great location. Next time I think we are going to try a request and see what happens.

I only request a non smoking room with two doubles/queens or a king with a pull out for DD. I never have a problem unless someone smoked in the room, then my wife's eyes start watering immediately! She is VERY sensitive to smoke.

never made specific room requests here...(only for crib etc) and at WL we got MK view, AKL - had a great SV, CSR - close to the Dig site and ground floor, Pop - close to the main bldg....

basically I was blessed with a little pixie dust each time! :)

Only request is non-smoking. Several times I have been upgraded to views or "deluxe rooms (AKL)

It's not like I get a dumpster view or a "horrid" room.

Same here. Never even thought to reserve a room in a special section or area of any Disney resort. We typically book the type room we want but never location. We have never been disappointed with our room and 9 times out of 10, have been upgraded. Of course, we only travel during non peak season to avoid the crowds, so that might have some bearing on our experience.

I've never made any requests other than non-smoking either. Although I have started asking for an upstairs room once we get there - never had a problem getting that since I guess most people want downstairs! I've always been very happy with my room.

We usually don't ask for any request. Last time we travel peak season in December and we were still upgraded to Courtyard view room for the Willderness. Actually twice, since the first room had only a king bed, when they gave us a another room it was courtyard. Actually they asked us, do you rather stay in Woods view or courtyard view room. :earsboy:

We did ask for request this time, since we are staying at a moderate, we hoping to switch resort but no avability.

Requests are good to make, as long as you realize you might not get all of them.

Keep in mind also the time of year and time of day you check in. If it's a crowded time of year or a check in time when the pickings are slim, you may be out of luck in getting much beyond what is available in the room category you picked.

We've not usually had much problem getting our requests. Of course our requests have usually been non-smoking, fridge and not a view of some service road.

Same for us. In fact, the only bad room I ever had was when I booked preferred waterview at CBR. Parking lot view would have been preferable to what we got.

I always make some request when booking a room and request it again when we check in. My request is usually non smoking and higher floor and then a particular bldg. I have been so far lucky that most of my request are met.

The two times that we have stayed onsite, we have stayed in ASMu and POP. Both times, the only requests that we made were for a king bed and a non-smoking room. Oh, and we did pay for the preferred view at POP when we stayed there. Both times, our requests were honored.

For December, we are paying for a king room, which I am more than happy to do, so we should get that. We also requested a non-smoking room, because we both have asthma. I hope that both requests will be honored. As for a neat view aspect, I could care less....unless we ever hit the lottery and can book a stay at AKL and then, it's a savannah view or nothing. The only request we make is that the roof does not leak and so far this has never been a problem....... :confused3
