What happens to borrowed points when you cancel?

I am having trouble understanding the cancelation process. If I cancel a reservation 31 days out or more, the manual says that my points get returned to the appropriate use year. However, it also says that borrowed points, once borrowed, can't be put back. If I make a reservation with borrowed points and then cancel it (say 60 days out), what happens to my borrowed points. Thanks -

THey go into the use year you originally lent them to. Once borrowed, they stay that way. For example, if you borrow 25 points for a 2002 reservation and then cancel, those 25 points must still be used in your 2002 use year.

Thanks - thats' what I thought but I find the language about the points going back into the "Appropriate use year" to be confusing.

A lot of the wording can be confusing. In the case of borrowed points, the new use year for those points would be the year into which they were borrowed. So, on a cancellation, they would return to that "appropriate use year".
