What Happens at the Beach Club... Travels with Teens, Take Two, (PTR) 4/6 p. 29

Dee you are a true DISer going back to get the other camera to satisfy your audience's desire to see food porn. :thumbsup2

I'm glad you got to go to Kouzinna since it is something you've wanted to do. I often miss the families of boys I broke up with...but never the boys. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

We watched the fireworks from Illuminations in December from a bench on the Boardwalk. It was great and we didn't have to fight the crowds. I'm glad you got to watch two sets. :goodvibes

I had such a nice night! I see two problems with you trying Kouzzina 1) Aren't you and especially Johnny really picky eaters? 2) Kouzzina is closing, forever :( on September 30 However, looking at your ticker, you could fit it in... Wow, every time I see your ticker or read your PTR, I am amazed that you trip is almost HERE! The EPCOT resort area is so incredibly gorgeous! :goodvibes

Oh no! They're closing? I hadn't heard that.

Hahaha yes, you're right, we are both very picky eaters, but for some reason I really like occasional Greek food! Not all of it, of course, that would be a miracle. Anyway, it won't matter because we won't have time to fit it in this trip, and then that's it for them! Boo.

I get absolutely panicky when I see my own ticker. I'm not ready!

Finally caught up with real life enough to find this. I absolutely have to try that cinnamon tomato chicken recipe. I was really tempted to try Kouzzina since my husband is Greek. But I was worried it wouldn't stand up to my mother-in-law's cooking. She makes the absolute best baklava and her spanikopita is pretty amazing, too.

Anyone who wants to try Greek fare, come to Harrisburg the second week in May. Our church has a huge festival that weekend. I would love to meet up with anyone and could be all pretentious and pronounce things like I'm actually Greek instead of just being married to one. There's also an incredible Greek restaurant in Baltimore called Ikaros. Best saganaki ever (flaming Greek cheese). Just thinking about it makes me want to drive there this weekend.

It was so much fun meeting everyone. Makes me want to ask for a Disney trip for mother's day. Brilliant idea!

:welcome: to the report, where you will be one of the stars!

It was great to meet you. Again and Again and Again!

:goodvibes

MMmmmm!!! Greek food!!! I make stuffed grape leaves every Christmas Eve.

Timing is everything. My husband could not refuse my request for a trip on Mother's Day. "For Mother's Day, I would like to plan a trip when I will NOT be spending time with you and the boys"

Irony?

I remember the Greek Festival when we lived there!

Do you eat any of that, Teena?

;)

Dee you are a true DISer going back to get the other camera to satisfy your audience's desire to see food porn. :thumbsup2

I think I signed a contract saying I am obligated to provide food porn at every opportunity!

:lmao:

Ain't that the truth. Although, since I started dating Mark when we were 16, there weren't that many boys!

:)

Isn't that a great no muss-no fuss way to see fireworks?

:thumbsup2

I also have a tempting breakfast coming up there, but I don't think I will get to posting that before your trip.

I know that feeling when I have been excited about a trip, but not felt prepared, so it is panic time that the trip is so soon!

Dee ... really? Can you see me eating Greek food? I'm the plainest foodie in the world.

I didn't think so! But when I saw you commenting about the Greek Festival in Harrisburg, I wondered if you made and exception to get your gyros on. (That's lamb skewer)

My in-laws are really funny about food. They consider Chinese exotic and my FIL (who is 81) just had his first ever burrito this summer. But they'll eat something called kokoretsi. Which is basically lamb intestines stuffed with the rest of the lamb no sane person wants to eat. I gnawed on a piece once. Eww.

After viewing the fireworks from the BW bridge and the beach, Carol was ready to go back to the room and Rebecca and I thought we would put the bartenders over at Hurricane Hanna’s to the test.

If you spend any time on the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ thread, you know that our signature drink is the Sunken Treasure. Unfortunately, this drink is no longer on the menu at the pool bar. But a group of devoted fans has tried to keep the legacy alive, and we order it whenever the opportunity arises. Most of the bartenders who have been there a long time know the recipe and will make the drink upon request.

Those of us who don’t want to leave important things like this to chance, may have taken matters into their own hands and created laminated recipe cards. Just in case.

We asked Tom the Bartender “Can you make a Sunken Treasure?”

“Of course!” He replied.

We texted Ninja Mom to see if she wanted to join us, but she complained that her arms were sore from hanging up Wanted Posters earlier that day or something. :confused3

I guess our first face-to-face meeting would be the next morning at breakfast (or so we thought)

Rebecca and I sat at the bar and chatted. At one point, we noticed it was getting uncomfortably hot, so we moved into the lobby of the Beach Club. We totally lost track of time and when Rebecca glanced down at her watch we were both shocked that it was 11:15.

Time for us to pack it in and call it a night.

We went up to the room and prepared for bed. Now some of you probably know that I don’t sleep well, home or away, but it is worse when I am on a trip, so I take a sleeping pill at night on vacation. Despite my excitement for the next couple of days, I was able to nod off quickly.

Next thing I remember is being awakened by Rebecca and her mom. There was a screeching fire alarm in the room and an announcement over loudspeakers to evacuate the building.

It was around midnight.

I had the foresight to grab my phone on the way out, although surprisingly I left behind my camera. That is a first!

We made our way to the stairs and no sooner had I joked that I thought Ninja Mom must be behind this is some way, we saw her in the stairwell.

This would be our first face-to-face meeting and it couldn’t have been executed any better if we had planned it ourselves.

Funny, when we were safely outside, in the back of the building near the lake, Ninja’s family had no problem with her abandoning them and spending time hanging out with Rebecca, Carol and me. Especially once she started calling out to try to find JanetMom, who would have been a welcome addition to our late night pajama party. No matter where you may live, if you listened closely that night you could hear the ear-shattering bellows of Ninja Mom as she howled "JanetMom!!! JANETMOM!!!"

I do have a picture of our encounter and I am posting it against my better judgment as it looks like I am not quite awake and perhaps drugged up (which was the case given that I had pharmaceutical assistance prior to the 45 minutes of sleep I managed to achieve before being rudely interrupted)

I have to point out that Ninja Mom was wearing her AK Park "Fix Me!!" Disco Yeti T-shirt, and she was loudly telling all within earshot that she wasn't wearing any underwear. Upon further review, there may have been tequila in the bottle she is holding. Just sayin’.

A couple of Facebook posts:

Dee: "its 1 am. Do you know where your DISer is? We are all having an impromptu meet by crescent lake during a fire drill"

Ninja:
Just enjoying a SPECIAL MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT Dis meet with Rebecca and Dee during a FIRE DRILL at the Hotel. Remember you can sleep when you're Dead! It's time to party 24 hours a day. PS we were walking along the lake front screaming (JanetMom, Janet Mom!!!!) Trying to find you....

After we were let back in our room, I posted the following message to the FAQ thread:

1:04 am
Well our first official pre-meet meeting. Fire alarm evacuated us at midnight. Just got back in our rooms. Met ninja at the midnight fire drill but her hijinx had already preceded her. Nighty night.

I am still giggling out loud about your fire alarm incident, but I'll get to that.
Love that you guys had such a good time chatting that you lost track of time! And that the bartender knew how to make a Sunken Treasure.
Well, the fire alarm must have really sucked, but it seems to have lead to some funny encounters with Ninja Mom! :rotfl:

That was an exciting unexpected late evening / early morning meet. Looking back it was actually fun! Who needs sleep? ; )

Rebecca

I am laughing like crazy at NinjaMom's antics! Sounds like my kinda gal and somebody that'd be fun to hang out with. I'm betting that this is the first ever impromptu fire alarm Dis Meet.

Haha, that's so awesome to get your drink made. I love that you come prepared as well... just in case. :thumbsup2

OMG a fire alarm!!!!! I'm sure it's happened before, but this is the first time I've read that. What a way to meet. Quite the impromtu DISmeet right there. Absolutely epic! :goodvibes

Gotta love the Beach Club decor and you've got a gorgeous view too! Walking around the Boardwalk in the evening on our non-park days is one of my favorite things to do. The Florida sunsets are always breathtaking :lovestruc
Glad you got to make to over to Kouzinna before it closes. Never dated a Greek guy but I did work at a Greek restaurant for a bit in college. I can never get those smells out of my head!
A fire drill at Disney? That was unexpected! Glad you got to meet up with NinjaMom and have some laughs!

But, but, but.... will there be MORE pictures???

(I hope so... In fact I know so!!)

Y'all are in for a treat!

So after trying to wake everybody up in my room in spite of the ear shattering alarm.... do I grab my valuables (nope)? I was so intent on waking the boys that I completely forgot about my wallet and my diamond tiara and what do I grab??

A bottle of iced tea.

WTH!!!

So I kick the fire door open and what do I see but two women snickering and pointing at ME! Of course I recognize Dee right away but Rebecca and her Mom looked way too respectable to be hanging out with the likes of Dee. I tried to signal Rebecca and her Mom to make a break for it so that we could run over to Jelly Rolls and show off our evening ensembles. Dee however insisted on urgently asking if my family needed me during this desperate hour. I however refused to take the hint! (Not the first time BTW...) My husband, upon hearing this, yelled out HECK NO and herded the boys off into the crowd, abandoning me with these three women of the evening.

BTW I just want everybody to Know that JanetMom was a big chicken that night. Even though she obviously heard me yelling her name over and over she faked us out and made up some story about waiting out the fire drill at the front of the resort... like the buses to the theme parks would be running that early! Humph! The buses run an HOUR BEFORE PARK OPENING JanetMom!!!

Anyway back to Goldilocks and the 3 sleepy bears run around Brain Eating Amoeba lake, or whatever it is called: Going on all these Disney trips is getting expensive so I considered showing a little extra leg in and effort to make some Sunken Treasure money. I had shaved my legs in June so you could still see the provocative parts, but alas there were no takers and we decided to walk over to the Boardwalk so that we could moon the clown slide, which is much easier to do when you are not wearing any underwear. (See? It all makes sense!)

We got half way around the lake and became depressed when we realized that there weren't even any Friendship boats that we could hop on and pretend that we were riding on the backwards Titanic. Dee's medication began to wear off and she started to hallucinate that people were going back into the Beach Club, so we headed back to the resort to wait for the all clear.

Eventually, they let us back in the resort, but not before prizes were awarded for "The Best Pajamas", "Most unfortunate Bed Head" and Worst Early, Early Morning Breath". Sadly I finished second in each category and everybody knows that second place means you're the first loser.

I shall stop here. I could go on (and on, and on) but this is Dee's trip report. I am just a dingle berry hanging on to the rear.

The biggest disappointment of our trip was that we evacuated out to the front of the resort. Let me tell you, those front of the resort folks are way more boring than the lake side folks. At the front of the resort we just had to watch our step as there were a surprising number of people who chose to ride out the fire drill by laying down to sleep on the sidewalk (seriously, there were many people just splayed out on the sidewalk sleeping - or maybe they simply got into Dee's pharmaceutical stash!)

Love the picture, can't wait for NM's MORE!

For the record I'll have you know that our family is known for our promptness. There is nothing wrong with getting down to the bus stop at 12:30 am if you have plans to make rope drop the next morning.

I have to admit I was :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: over your fire drill despite the fact that I've been a part of them and hate them.

How funny that you ran into ninja mom and you all ended up with a pajama party. Too bad you couldn't find JANETMOM!!!! :lmao:

I have never been so sad to miss a fire drill. Of course, I was at the YC, so things would have been much more sedate, I'm sure.

IF we had had your room number (or Scott's) we would have marched right over and started banging on your door. Children or no children Mommy's got to party 24/7/365 when she is at Disney!:banana::banana:

Will do! In my next post, I'll add the recipes!

For the Cinnamon Chicken, I use a recipe found here on the DIS

The pastitsio recipe I use is from Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet) Three Ancient Cuisines cookbook.

Your adventures in Greek cuisine story is hilarious! and sad. :sad2:

:rotfl2:

Thanks for the recipes-they sound both tasty and doable so will give them a go one of these days :thumbsup2

Even sadder than the well done steak is the fact that we had to eat bacon flavoured crisps for breakfast as we only had enough money for 1 meal a day:crazy2:
