what happened to the SW iternet specials?

They are putting together the new summer fare sale. Should start very soon. I would bet probably Tuesday.

I saw the prices and panicked and thought maybe I should book now. I know it won't be as cheap as last summer but I know it has to come down from what I see now. August is usually the cheapest time to fly. The resorts are not sold out. It has to get cheaper.

They aren't so special anymore? We need October and I have just HAD it with the waiting :(

Huh??? What are you paying for unleaded regular at the gas pump right now? Close to $3.00 a gallon, right? While Jet A/A1 is basically kerosene, it isn't much cheaper. For those of you hoping for that $49 dollar special airfare, I wouldn't hold my breath. Southwest along with every other major carrier is looking a fuel bills which have gone through the roof. The reality is, a flight of $49 dollar seats will loose money with todays fuel prices. Those special offers will have to be very limited, even for a no-frills carrier like Southwest.

I'm waiting on Nov and hope they come down some. I don't think they dates will open up till July, so I have some waiting to do.

ITA with this, and have adjusted my expectations with what my flights from BOS to RSW or MCO are going to be. $300 for a Round/Trip will probably be the norm, and I'll be very happy with anything under $250. I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not counting on it.

I think for the time being, if you find a flight with times that work for you, and a price you can live with, you should book it.

I got tired of waiting on November for SW out of BWI and with prices going up-up-up, I went ahead and booked on United. The flight I selected from IAD-MCO has already gone up $15 r/t in the last month. I figure that up is about the only way they are going to head in the near future :badpc:

I don't think $49 fares are out of the question. There is a Ding right now to W. Palm Beach for $49 for June, yesterday I think I saw a $49 Ft. Lauderdale Ding for the entire month of June. Overall, fares might be higher this year, but there will still be deals to fill empty seats. SW might lose a few dollars on the handful of Ding passengers on a given flight, but they make it up on the other full fare seats and business travellers.

At least, I'm hoping that is the case 'cause I need some cheap tickets for August!

I somewhat agree with Drew.......however, I do think we'll see the number of flights cut. I can't imagine any of the airlines allowing their flights to continue being half full no matter what the fares are. Go on any of the websites and you will see a lot of seats available. Air travel appears to be down for this summer. I posted on a different thread earlier I believe that may be why SW hasn't released more of their schedule yet. They may be adjusting and cutting some flights to avoid cancelling fligh†s with very few people later on. Far better to have fewer flights per day with more people on board. So, while I do think we'll see some lower fares......not like we have in the past and what is available will be gone quickly

inernet specials usually run from Tuesday to Thursday according to southwest's web site

Right now there's a Ding fare to MCO from PVD for $49 for June and it's good even on Saturdays. Fridays aren't included. That makes me hopeful for October. I plan to book one way tickets and hope there's a Ding for our Tuesday return flight.

I read ( WSJ i think) that SW is the only airline that has pre purchased fuel at lower rates. In other words, they have the price already locked. SW also is one of the only airlines that hardly ever flies with a half empty plane. That is why they are always more profitable. I hope for those reasons that they change the flight prices from PHL to MCO. It used to be $79 without a ding. Now it is $109, however they still have $79 from BWI to MCO. I know many people took advantage of the airtran specials $79 PHL to MCO and said to heck with SW. I am still waiting. I think the ding is still going to come thru... Of course I know I need to be flexible with my days of travel.
