What happened to Mickey's Wand at Epcot?

Thw wand was originally put on SSE for the year 2000 celebration. It just so happened that it "hung around" a bit longer than it should have afterwards. The "2000" was removed and the wand was left. Many liked it, LOTS of others didn't. The removal of the wand was a good thing, IMO. It brings back the original "look" that was there as you entered Epcot(other than those god forsaken grave stone legacy doobers;) ). The wand wasn't there in the beginning and it doesn't belong. Its SSE that's the "icon" of Epcot, not that wand. Actually, that Sorcerer's Hat you like in Hollywood Studios isn't original either, and many(including myself) think its also a distraction. Otherwise, the Tree of Life and Cindy's Castle are great park icons. Disney just needs to leave them alone and let them stand as they are(except for the few times that the castle has been beautifully decorated.
At any rate, the wand is NOT going back up....it just doesn't fit...esp. for us old school fans.:)

on u tbe there is a clip that a cm had made. the wand is laying in a feild like setting behind epcot in a million parts.

Yes.

It was constructed for the year 2000 celebration.

It was so difficult and costly to REMOVE it, that they left it there for several years longer than they anticipated.

Many here are happy to see the "temporary" signage removed and the globe returned to its originally-intended clean design.

Yes - me included!! I love just "The Ball"!!! :thumbsup2

Another purist here! I love the Sphere in it's naked glory...far, far better! :thumbsup2

The brought the geosphere back to its original glory. Too bad the same can't be said for the attraction inside the geosphere.

I won't see the rehab til June, but am rather anxious about how it turned out. And "original glory" to me would be to bring it all the way back to the beginning and Walter Cronkite. No better voice has ever been heard on SSE! And then if I could just get EPCOT and FW itself back to its original glory, I'd be a happy, happy camper.

Not quite.

There was a version even BEFORE Walter C. voiced the second incarnation.

Yes, Vic Perrin did the original narration, but honestly it was a bit less interesting than the Cronkite or Irons versions that followed

Yup. I have yet to hear anyone say that the original version was the best. I thought that the original ending was even a bit scary as a small child. Or maybe it was just the image of Andy Warhol.

I'm glad the wand is down, but why did they throw it in a field like that?:confused3

That video was rather unsettling. I kept expecting a chain saw wielding maniac to pop out and start laughing.

I just never "got" the giant Epcot sign. Did they think people would get confused about where they were?

On a similar note, why are there little painted markers in the Epcot parking lot telling you which way to go to get to Spaceship Earth? Do they think people can't see it from the parking lot?

It had to go somewhere.
;)

That's just a dumping ground.

Eventually they can sell the scrap metal.
(If they have not done so already.)

I feel for ya. That's how I felt when I finally (and accidentally) saw video of Horizons being razed. :(

Me I never really cared if the sign was up there or not, Guess I was too young to care about a sign becuase when we went in December after 5 years I think it looks so much better without.

I am also a big fan of Tapestry of Nations/Dreams, I loved that parade and wish it would be brought back!!!
