i was in florida the last 2 weeks, and 1 of the days police were all over wet and wild, and i think it got closed. curious to know what happened

I don't know, but my guess is things got. . .

Well "Wet and Wild". LOL.

Just joking, hope it wasn't anything serious. I too would be interested to find out.

I hate when you are on vacation and have to see the real world creep in. This is OT but when I was coming back from the Magic Kingdom I saw a bad car accident and it really got me down.

I just kept on thinking about the poor people who were on a beautiful Disney vacation and then they got into a bad accident. Then I was praying that no one got hurt especially if there were kids involved.

Now back to your regular post. Sorry.

i see what you mean, stuff like that just spoil the vacation.

no question about it

I think it was something about six busloads of teens from somewhere is South Florida and fighting and a couple of people were shot.

Here's the article from the local paper. Just a word of warning: the comments that people have posted under the article are exceptionally racist and ignorant. I'll post a link the page after the article.

Orlando police Officer Phillip Peet stood in the doorway of the tour bus Sunday, protecting several scared teenagers from about 20 angry, threatening teens trying to get in.

Peet shouted at the mob to back away from the bus and soon pulled out his gun.

The teens continued toward him, unafraid of Peet's gun, still shouting threats.

That's when Peet pulled out his can of "Deep Freeze Crowd Control" and sprayed the chemical at them. By the third spray, the teens backed away and disappeared into a crowd of hundreds of teens fighting in the parking lot of the Wet 'n Wild water park.

"I did not attempt to make an arrest or follow the members of the group due to the extremely violent nature of the crowd," Peet wrote in a report, later saying the crowd outnumbered police by "overwhelming" numbers.

Peet's firsthand account was one of several reports that the Orlando Police Department released Tuesday about the Sunday afternoon disturbance on International Drive.

One teen was shot, another was hurt, and a third was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting an officer without violence and trespassing after a warning. The arresting officer was hurt after a group of 50 to 75 people punched him when he tried to arrest the girl.

The parking-lot melee involved several rival groups and took place after closing time, police wrote.

Officers later found a .22-caliber handgun in one of 32 buses that carried an estimated 1,600 high-school students from South Florida to International Drive for an organized outing. Police would not say it was used in the shooting.

Officer David McKinnon wrote that he arrested Mideland Jean of Deerfield Beach after she was asked to leave the park because of verbal abuse she gave to employees who told her not to lie on the gift-shop floor.

He called desperately for backup after the group of teens attacked him, using the Signal 43 code -- officer in need of assistance.

When Officer Ira Morris arrived, he saw hundreds of "cantankerous individuals" fighting in the parking lot and ignoring orders to stop from police and park security.

He saw a group of 100 people rush the closed gates to the park, trying to return inside. Immediately he reached for his "crowd control" chemical and began spraying, the report said.

Michael Roosevelt, 18, of Pompano Beach was shot in the leg, and his 16-year-old brother was hit in the face during the fight, police said earlier. Roosevelt was expected to make a full recovery and was released from a hospital.

The shooter has not been arrested.

I am a native New Yorker and Florida used to be a place people from New York moved to because they thought it would be a safer place to raise their family and send their kids to school.

After seeing that horrible video of those girls (cheerleader) beating up the other girl in the house and now this. New York dosen't seem so bad anymore.

Gosh--just an "organized outing" (with guns and all) and some "youths" (1,600 of them) just having a bit of fun.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

DISGUSTING!!!

Just your average day in Floriduh.

Don't forget the three rapes in three days last week in Orlando. That always screams come visit!!!
pirate:

Sounds a lot like downtown Baltimore--

What I hope is that this water park "incident" will dissuade anyone at Disney from even thinking about sponsoring a similar "outing" at TL or BB...

Yeah, when visiting a watwerpark doesn't it just seem natural to pack a gun? :headache:
Hopefully W&W bans that tour company. Sounds almost like what comes down between two rival gangs or schools having a riot between themselves.
Too bad they did not arrest 100 or so "youths".

What do you mean by that :rotfl2:

It is a shame where you have to worry about your kids were ever they go.

I had a group try to start with DD and her friend at what is suppose to be a very nice area mall ( Whitemarsh). I was right there the entire time so witnessed the entire thing and jus called the cops to diffuse it all. But had I not been there they would have had to fight for sure and it wouldn't have been good.

Living here in B-more I have tried from a very young age to teach her how to spot possible trouble and try to get away , Only to fight if it's the last straw after calling the Police first.

Also remember Disney just had something almost as bad with the POP Werner Football with a near riot last year and that was a group from baltimore and hawaii if I remember correctly

You're right--one of those groups was from Baltimore. :)
I was a Parole and Probation Officer in Baltimore (with the Federal Court) for 32 years (1969 through 2001). I know every nook and cranny of the place--and that's why I have ventured inside the Beltway only a handful of times since I retired 7 years ago!! Of course, I won't venture into downtown York Pa. either---.
But you are right--there is potential trouble EVERYWHERE these days.

I wonder how many papers ourside of orlando has picked this up? Great advertising to go to WDW. What an outrage. I can just imagine what possible terror that other people may have experienced if they were there when this broke out. Can you imagine what they are telling friends, then the friends to other friends. The schools involved should be banned by disney in participating as a school, from renting rooms, visiting the parks, bands, cheerleading, pop warner, EVERYTHING. Could you see if something like this broke out in the MK or Epcot? Not a good sign of the times or FL.

that's a good idea glen. why should they even bee allowed on disney property, after something like this.

let's just hope there's no more accidents anytime soon

This was in our paper here in NY - it did not mention the name of the water park - I forgot to come here where I know I would have gotten the answer.

So Sad.
