I know this sounds silly, but just wanting to know how most of you dress your children? We will be there in late July, have DD 4 and DS almost 6.

All she wants to wear now are skirts and dresses...I'm thinking at her age that should be fine? All he wants to wear are cargo and camo shorts...too hot? Hats? Shoes?

My co-worker recommended Crocs for her...never worn them but they LOOK uncomfortable to me....flip flops? What? Any suggestions appreciated....:)

My girls like the wear dresses and skirts too. I think she will be fine in either. I also buy my girls Bear Feet Sandals, they are very comfortable, but a little pricey.

I'm not that familiar with Crocs since I don't like how wide they are. I've heard they are comfortable, but people have also said they got blisters from them.

My dd 5 also likes to wear dresses, but I like her to be covered underneath. She wore skorts, dresses with biker shorts, and her Hanna playdress set. Oh, and 3 full days in her princess dresses! :lmao: princess: ;) But it was January and not too hot!!

For shoes, I really like to have my girls in comfy sneakers and socks. With all of that walking, I feel that is the most practical option. I personally don't like my Crocs too much - my feet get really sweaty in them. The girls don't have any.

My DS's (8 and 12) prefer to wear the silky basketball-type sports shorts and t-shirts. My youngest did wear cargos/camos on a few days, and with them he wore his Crocs. He LOVES those things and has lived in them this summer. If not Crocs, then it's socks and sneakers for both of them. (The oldest thinks Crocs are totally hideous and wouldn't be caught dead in them....ah, the joys of "tweens"....:rotfl: )

Thanks! I figured I may have been over thinking it for the parks...:goodvibes

Do yu dress them up a little more for TS meals, I know generally I would clean them up re-comb hair, etc...but what do you see kids dressed like in TS restaurants... we have ADR's at CM's, Liberty Tree, Boma, Prime Time and Coral Reef that I can remember off the top of my head...do they wear park gear? What about the adults?

My DD wears boutique clothes (her favorite right now is her Cars dress), dresses with shorts underneath mostly. Also crocs. She can wear them all day and play in the water fountains in them.

We're returning for our third July trip on July 9.

Anyway, my kids wear gym shoes with socks because I do not want to deal with blisters from walking a lot. July is hot, but I guarantee they'll be hot in any type of shoe, and we've never had blisters yet.

They have Crocs which they bring for short park trips (like in the evening after our major touring is done), to the pool, and maybe dinner. But all day in the parks--shoes.

The boys wear shorts and t-shirts or polos (the oldest is obsessed with striped polos). My younger DS is a camo fan even in the heat. DD will wear shorts or skorts and either a shirt or tank.

I also never dress them up for dinner. We do not do signature meals. We're going to a lot of the same places you mention, Mrs. D, and there is just no need to dress up at those types of restaurants. You'll see most people in their theme park attire--shorts, t-shirts, and the like. You'll be so hot you won't want to dress up!

IMO. life is too short to argue with kids on what they should wear. If your DD likes dresses and your DS wants to wear camo shorts, then why not? As for shoes, I like to bring a pair of sneakers and a some kind of sandals (or flips or crocs) that can be worn to the pool. Both pairs of shoes should be broken in before going to WDW.

They can wear whatever they want w/in the parameters of it being appropriate, practical and comfortable for all day in WDW and 90+ degree heat. IMO basketball shorts would be more comfortable than Cargo's or Camoflage...and do I want to hear his mouth all day b/c he's concerned w/ "fashion" at almost 6?? My kid's are a little different IMO though...like this morning the "arguement" w/ my 4 y.o. daughter was that she wanted to wear her "heels" to day camp...go figure.

So what? He's be happier in cargo shorts and she would be happier in heels. Why not allow them to make their mistakes and learn from them? Like I said, life is too short. If they are uncomfortable they will let you know. Pack a pair of flats for when you DD's feet give out and lightweight shorts when your DS wilts. You will look like "Supermom" instead of starting off as "Naggingmom".

I agree with you! Now my children are still young( ages 3, 2, and 6 months) so I still get to determine what is in their closet but I let them pick out what they wear each day. My oldest loves boutique style princess outfits so that is what hse has been wearing a lot lately so that is cool with me! Really as long as it isn't inappropriate I don't care what they wear! I think that the kids should have some say in what they wear and what htey want to wear sounds fine to me! It could be much worse!

DS (9) usually wears cargos and a tank top. Its about as cool for him as can be since he'll only wear Cargo shorts. He has a pair of the Nike Sunray sandals, that he wore everyday to the parks when we went a couple weeks ago.

DD (3) loves her frilly stuff too. We bought out the Disney store and she wore dresses some days and tops and shorts others. Really as long as it has some sort of princess on it, she's good to go. I bought her a pair of maryjane crocs about 2 weeks before we left. I took those plus a couple other pair of shoes for her. She insisted on the crocs. She wore them everyday all day and continues to do so. She loves those crazy things.

I wear sandals also. I couldn't imagine walking around all day in socks and tennis shoes, though DH does and their high tops to make it worse.

Have fun!

My four year old thinks that she knows what fashions look great or not too, and sometimes she is a little too picky and we have to tell her that the width of a tie on a dress is not enough to warrant that dress unwearable. As for heels at day camp, I would have put my foot down on that too saying that it would not happen. Sometimes parents need to say they do not approve of certain decisions because they know what is best. I think dresses and skirts and camo shorts will be fine in the park in July, but I would tell daughter she could only wear heels in the restaurants in order to compromise with her, and save my sanity. If you are worried they might be hot, which they probably will be even if they were naked! :lmao: I would bring some hand held battery operated fans, or maybe some water mister fans. We are going in August and we plan to bring both as well as handkerchiefs to get wet and wear around our necks. We let our daughters pick them out so there was not an issue with fashion conflicts!

Do people dress up for character breakfasts? For the princess ones, I plan on letting DD wear the princess dresses and bring a change of clothes for her in our day bag, but I don't want to have to dress up and bring a change of clothes for us too?
TIA,
Lesley

We don't dress up for any of our TS meals, unless they are signature restaurants. We haven't done one of those in a few years. I make sure everyone looks clean, by stopping into the restroom when we arrive at the TS restaurant and washing up a bit. But we usually go right from a park to the restaurant, so there is no way for us to change into different clothes.

(the only exception to this was this past trip, when we went to Blizzard Beach during the day, back to Pop to shower and change, and then to Ohana for dinner. We did "dress up" a bit...meaning nice clean shorts, polo shirts, etc.)

I'd say they'd be fine in what you suggested.

Last year in August I just packed the lightest of their clothing. My dd is all about dresses too so I just picked out her lightest sundresses to take, we took a nice wide brim sunhat for her.
For the boys, light tee's and tank tops and shorts. I really tried not to pack any of their heavier shorts such as denim because we were there in August. I took visors and sunhats for them.
The baby nothing more than a onesie went on.

As for the TS, we didn't dress up more. Usually we'd have gone back to the room for a rest before heading out for a TS dinner and we'd freshen up or change and be ready for dinner and the evening.

Have fun!:wizard:

Last August my son wore lightweight shorts, cotton knits mostly, and tank sleeveless shirts. I plan to pack the same for him this August. For shoes the first time we went he wore sneakers, the second time he wore sandals, but comfy ones with a good rubber sole, and nice thick socks (warmer but better for alot of walking).

My kiddos are fashion conscious too at 6 and 7 yrs old (get it from their metro-sexual father :lmao: ) It drives me crazy when I try to pack comfortable clothes for Disney trips. The past few trips I have gotten some input from them - like asking which are their fave shirts etc. Then I get the large gallon size Ziploc bags and pack each day's outfit in a seperate bag, including undies, socks, hairbows, etc. When we are at the World, all they have to do is pick out a bag each morning when we are getting dressed. It also helps keep everything neat and tidy in the luggage.
