What do your children wear to the parks??

My girls wear short sets or sundresses to the parks and ds wears shorts and a top. We do come back to the resort each day swim/nap shower before dinner. For dinner ds usually wears nice khaki shorts and a polo top and girls wear sundress or nice short set. I'm pretty neurotic about their clothes and do the ziploc bag method. We leave in one week and their closets are filled with clothes that haven't been able to wear yet.

Footwear usually depends on the outfit - they have crocs, good sneakers, many, many pairs of flip flops and sandals. Of course they have way more clothes than DH or I!

My DD is at the point all she will wear are dresses and I am fortunate enough to get skorts on her. I bought her summer wardrobe early and it included a lot of shorts - I ended up returning every pair of them. DH told her that she was not going to wear dresses to Disney that she would wear shorts and I told him "No, she isn't." I am not going to fight with her first thing in the day over something that is so silly. I have just made sure she had plenty of dresses and then bought some white bike shorts to wear under them. She's little enough that she is definitely not very ladylike - but she' old enough I like for her to have something on under them besides panties. Speaking of - does anyone know where I can buy plain white bloomers to go under dresses in a size 4T? Or where I can get little bike style shorts, but shorter to go under dresses?

So what? He's be happier in cargo shorts and she would be happier in heels. Why not allow them to make their mistakes and learn from them? Like I said, life is too short. If they are uncomfortable they will let you know. Pack a pair of flats for when you DD's feet give out and lightweight shorts when your DS wilts. You will look like "Supermom" instead of starting off as "Naggingmom".

Allllllll I asked was what your children wear to the parks....No disrespect, but other than that, you pick your battles w/ your children and I will pick mine. The absolute last thing I need, and didn't ask for was parenting tips...I asked for appropriate dressing tips for the parks. Since my children are young, neither of them have jobs and I don't drop them off at the malls to shop for themselves...obviously ANYTHING they have on is something I have purchased, so again it's OBVIOUS it's something I'd approve of....when appropriate, and I say so that is.

Am I going to let my 4 and 5 year old make a decision as to what they want to wear? Again YES w/in my parameter's...that's why I'm the parent...God gave me my children to guide and direct in whatever way I see fit. No I am not going to give them unlimited, silly choices like dark or heavy clothes, again in 90+ degree heat, and then lug around extra stuff for when they realize "Oh I'm uncomfortable, I'm hot"....that in my opinion is poor parenting. Oh I know, I'll let my 4 year old wear the play heels I bought her from the Dollar Store or somewhere to day camp because she thinks it's a good idea and it's cool...but hey she'll get it when she twists an ankle or is injured on the playground that those just aren't for camp... Wow Mom was right!!....Sounds prudent:thumbsup2 Contrary to popular belief, my job is not to be my children's friend or to be sure they think I'm cool. My job is to rear them and guide them w/ good common sense. :confused3 Sometimes that's considered being "pro active"...you know, heading off all the unneccesary drama at the pass?? This is exactly why we have children running around like they are crazy...too many parents trying to be "super" and "cool"...I'll pass. That is for the movies, and I don't live in a Disney movie...I'm just going for vacation. All of that to say, I absolutely do not come to the DIS for parenting advice (but I looooovvvveeee Chloe's Mom:love: )....for that I would go to people I KNOW and trust are GOOD PARENTS....The DIS for me is strictly for info on WDW, which I admit I know nothing about.

Thanks,
Mrs. D

They sure are, and it's just crazy:lmao: I didn't mean to go off like that, but dang give me a break...:rotfl:

Try looking for "bootie" shorts at a dance store. They come ina variety of colors, come in small sizes, and are short!

I think all your questions where answered, but just wanted to add that I'd suggest bringing too different types of shoes. My DS wore tennis shoes and socks last summer and his feet for hurting at the end of day 2. And these were the shoes he wore all the time to school and around town (so they wore well broken in).

This year I'm bringing his Crocs (he's been wearing them almost everyday for 2 months) and a pair of tennis shoes. I'll let him chose what he wants to wear, but I think it's good to have an option to switch.

Another tip, since it's so hot my DH always brings a washcloth from the hotel, then will wet it and wipe my DS's face and head off. It really helps to keep cool.

My kids wore comfortable shorts and t-shirts last summer with socks and sneakers. Although, one of the best tips I got was to bring a pair of flip-flops to wear on Kali River Rapids. They won't let you go on bare-foot, and the last thing you want is wet shoes all day.
Eventually, we got a double stroller for them (ages 4 & 6 at the time) and they just kicked off their shoes and enjoyed being pushed around.

I think you got plenty of responses......just wanted to say that Gap and Gymboree dresses come with "panty covers" in size 4. Maybe find a cute new dress and use that cover for all her dresses?

Usually when some one says that they mean "no disrespect" they follow it up with very disrespectful comments. Your post was no different. There was no need to get nasty.

I assume that the items in your children's wardrobes are you approved of to begin with. I don't expect you to make a couture run for your kids and outfit them in the height of fashion. Whatever that might be for a 6-year old. I was simply saying that you should allow your kids to wear what they want and what they are comfortable in. Yes, of course you are the parent and you can dress them like the Duggars if you want in plain, ugly, modest clothes. That is your right. BUT ... you asked me what clothes your kids should wear and I responded with "whatever they are comfortable in". That is what is appropriate at WDW. You have everything from very plain, modest clothes all the way to the height of princess fashion with heels that light up. Really, anything is appropriate at WDW.

Don't sweat the small stuff, but do take two pairs of shoes!

FWIW, I would also not allow my DD to wear play heels to day camp. Kids need sturdy shoes and some camps don't even allow sandals! The subject of the post was WDW.

My girls like the wear dresses and skirts too. I think she will be fine in either. I also buy my girls Bear Feet Sandals, they are very comfortable, but a little pricey.

I'm not that familiar with Crocs since I don't like how wide they are. I've heard they are comfortable, but people have also said they got blisters from them.

I have two little girls ages 2 and 5. Last year they were mostly sundresses. My 2 year old was 1 last year we bought her shoes ( I cant remember the name of them right now). her feet did not sweat at all. My 5 year old took flip flops but did not wear them much they were hurting her feet she wore sketchers. This year we did get them each a pair of crocs. My 5 year old loves hers, but my 2 year old they give her such bad blisters. On the sides of the shoe were the round croc symbol is.

I think dresses or skirts for your DD would be fine. When my DD was little she wore many sundresses and scooters to the parks. DS wears shorts or cargo shorts and t-shirts. Both kids always wear sneakers, just comfier that way, although we don't do Disney in the summer-if we did, than maybe flip flops or sandals would be our choice.

Great, because yours was disrespectful WITHOUT the disclaimer...But from what I've heard via PM about you...that's your MO anyway....so no one was surprised.

Thanks again for PERMISSION to dress my children how I'd like. I have a feeling I could really pass on any actual fashion advice from you anyway...and again for the 3rd time?? I'll allow my kids to wear what they want w/in MY PARAMETERS...You keep missing that part for some reason.

My children DO NOT RUN ME, I RUN MY HOUSEHOLD AND MAKE APPROPRIATE DECISIONS....you on the other hand are welcome to allow your children to raise themselves. COMPLETELY your perrogative. Take care of your own children ma'am.

Please and thanks!

I agree with both of you. We are the parents! We know that they will get hot or uncomfortable. You must have good kids, because you sound like a very good parent! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone else for the helpful responses on what worked for your children at WDW. I figured the dresses would be okay, but the bootie bottom was priceless. I was digging around in her drawer yesterday and found some Hanes cotton shorts she got for her birthday that are 4's (so IMO wayyyyy to short) to wear just as shorts, and I would guess they come in various colors...I'm going to look at Wal Mart to price them.

I also have found some thinner material Cargos for DS to wear some days and the really light cotton basketball shorts and kind of muscle shirts for the parks during the day. I think they'll work fabulously!! (lol)

Thanks again y'all!!:grouphug:

Thankies!!

None of my posts were disrespectful. I did make a joke about "Supermom" and "Naggingmom" which you may have taken the wrong way. I guess I should have added this little guy to it: ;) or perhaps :cheer2:or maybe even this :goodvibes. It's so hard to tell the tone of someone's post when all we have are the written word to rely on. So ... if you thought I was calling you a "nag" then I am sorry as that was not what I intended.

What confuses me the most about your posts is how are you getting so upset! Why do you continue to be nasty to me? You continue to attack me personally and you continue to shout at me. I don't deserve any of that from you. I think you really need to take a deep breath before you violate one of the DIS Guidelines you agreed to when you signed up for the DIS last month: http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

As for my "MO" ... whatever. People say a lot of things behind other people's backs ... feel free to listen to as many rumors as you wish .

My children DO NOT RUN ME, I RUN MY HOUSEHOLD AND MAKE APPROPRIATE DECISIONS....you on the other hand are welcome to allow your children to raise themselves. COMPLETELY your perrogative. Take care of your own children ma'am.
 Man, case in point.

I sincerely hope that you have a great trip at WDW. I'm sure that your children will look adorable :cloud9: in whatever you choose for them to wear. With that I will unsubscribe to this thread.

If you wish to accuse me of being bad parent again of if you wish to SHOUT AT ME any more please send me a PM :thumbsup2.

Thanks Again!!

I'd say let them wear whatever you normally let them wear in hot weather. Just remember with the shoes, if you buy new ones make sure they have a good few weeks to break them in. As for crocs, they look awful, but my kids (ages 6 & 7) love them and think they are very comfortable. They are nice when your feet get wet and you still have the rest of the day you have to wear your shoes.

The great thing about being that young is that they'll look cute no matter what they wear, wether it matches or not.
