I am probably one of the only people who use a backpack...but I do. Sorry but I dont do fanny packs.
My backpack has a stiff and padded back, very padded/curved shoulder straps, and waist and sternum straps. This really helps to make it comfortable. The bag does not hang off my shoulders, it more of less rests on them. It is actually a hiking backpack. If you are going to carry one I recommend a hiking pack, they are much more comfortable for carrying long periods of time and they also wick away sweat. I don't carry much around the parks. Just my wallet, ponchos, camera, maps, tissues, and emergency medication. (I have asthma so I carry a rescue inhaler everywhere I go) Oh and of course I have my squeeze breeze fan but I make DBF carry that since he uses it more.
