Tomorrow I am going to a wedding, 10:30 am is the church. The mass is 2 hrs. the reception starts at 1, it takes 20 minutes to get to the hall. Now I am not a church goer but do believe in God. I am not going to the whole church service , I am then going to the reception and giving a gift, am I right or wrong?

Gail, do what you want. The people that know you won't have a problem, the people that don't know you, well who cares?

Enjoy the wedding :)

GAIL, I try to follow my OWN drummer, and I respect others who do as well. However, according to my devoutly Catholic DW, it's considered bad form to "skip" much of a wedding Mass.

Have a great time, whatever you decide :D

Two hours for a wedding?? That seems like a long time Catholic or not. I'd show up for the vows if you wouldn't be noticed coming in. The only way I'd sit that long for anyones wedding is if it were a close family member who would make me pay if I didn't. ;)

You can skip the service if you want, but I doubt (and hope) that the bride and groom wouldn't mind you attending despite the fact that you're not someone who attends church. They should just want you to do whatever feels best for you.

Is this a Greek Orthodox wedding? I would do what you feel comfortable doing. But, I would either go to the whole wedding service, or just go to the reception. I would not try to slip in during the mass. The bride and groom are going to a more than a little preoccupied and will not notice that you did not attend the mass. JMHO. Have fun whatever you decide.

Gail, I attend Mass regularly with my DW; in fact, we were at a wedding Mass in Easton 2 weeks ago;) ;) .

I really don't accept most of what is presented at Mass, but I can appreciate the mystery and drama associated with the Church rituals. Perhaps, you might enjoy it :) ..........

Yikes, Eros.... you were VERY close to where I live when you were in Easton!!! ;)

Gail: I think you should do whatever you're comfortable with. I don't think it's a matter of right or wrong. Either way, enjoy the reception :)

I'm not a Catholic, nor have I attended a Catholic wedding. You've just confused me.

I won't think bad of you if you skip something.:)

Two hours? If it were my wedding day and you decided to skip the church, I would understand. I would understand if everyone skipped the church, except my soon to be DH!!. :p Have a great time!

jason, jason Jason, was that nice? I have thought of that but if I do go to hell at least I'll be warm. :D

I would do what you want. 2 hours is crazy! We went to a wedding last weekend and it started a little late and they did a full Mass. We couldnt wait to get out of there! Of course, it was a close friend so I couldnt have skipped the actual wedding. However, my friends date(a former flame of the bride) didnt go to the church, he just met us at the reception.

2 hours......

I just got back from the wedding, I stayed the church and the whole reception. I got there right at 10:25 and afraid I was going to be late but alas the bride was 15 minutes late. LOL I stayed the whole ceremony, it was about 1 hr which wasn't to bad, my mind wonder a bit, I talk to the big guy upstairs and I asked him a few favor then it was off to the reception. After all my moaning and groaning I had a nice time, would of been more fun if I had a date beside me but I had a few, ok more then a few drinks, one grap cruch and the rest sex on the beach so I think they helped me relax. I danced a few dances and now I am just home, going to change into jeans and a seater and head to my friends house, after the liquior store and go party at her house. Thanks for all the replys, if I ever do that again give me a good dope slap:D

Gail, there's a lot to be said for having "real" Sex on the Beach rather than the drink ;) ;) ;) . Glad that you had an enjoyable time. Pllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease do not get behind a wheel tonight!!!!!

EROS, I way at times be an airhead but I DO NOT ever drink and drive. I hate when people do that, I have read of so many deaths from that stupidity. OH, I never had real sex on the beach, I was afraid to get sand up my butt. LOL :D :) :Pinkbounc
