What do you think: adding 1 night at Pop?

Hello fellow DIS'ers,

What do you think about this? We are staying at the GF in December and we have decided to arrive earlier than planned. Since we will be arriving around 8pm-9pm, do you think it was a good idea to add an one night stay at Pop century rather than spending more $$$$ for a room at the GF? Will this be too much as far as moving luggage, etc? :confused3

It will be easy to have the luggage moved--just tell them at bell services when you leave in the morning. I have seen people post before about staying one night at a value resort or even offsite before starting the vacation at a deluxe resort. If it weren't easy to get your luggage moved it would be a different story, but it is.

Thank you so much for the reply!

Who knows, I may end up loving Pop Century for that one night and may look into having a longer stay there in the spring. :woohoo:

We had the exact same issue for our trip this February. We have a week booked at the GF, but since we fly from the West coast, we will arrive late.
I hate checking into hotels late...we never get our room requests, and often have to move the next day. In this case, it's also a lot of money when we won't even get the day at the resort.

So, we decided to fly in a day before we check into the GF, and since we are renting a car, we just priceline'd a hotel for the first night. We bid for a resort level hotel, and got the Omni Championsgate for $97...less expensive that a Disney value resort for the same night.

The easy thing about renting a car (other than not having to be dependent on WDW transportation), is that we can leave most of the luggage in the car trunk that first night, and just take one small bag into the hotel with us. Then the next morning we can drive to the local store to buy a few items for the trip before we check into the GF. (Of course, our girls took one look at the internet pictures of the Omni pool and are hoping that the weather is warm enough for a morning swim...so we may be checking in to the GF in the afternoon!)

I can see, however, that if you are using ME, that it would be much easier to stay on-site for that first night.

This is exactly what I am doing! We are arriving around 9pm on the night before we check in to the Dolphin, so we are staying at Pop for 1 night. I was able to get the Passholder rate, so it is half as much as the Dolphin. Plus, I get to try the Twinkie Tiramisu (or however that is spelled) which I am very excited about. Pop looks like fun -- yea!! :goodvibes

We resort hop on almost every trip to the World, and have never had any trouble changing rooms. We are renting a car, so we will probably just put what we will need that first night in our carryons so that we don't have to lug all of our luggage around. Have fun!!
