What do you think about TSA locks for luggage?

I keep hearing about TSA locks and how it is a good idea to put them on our luggage when travelling. Does anyone have any more info about these locks? Why are they so popular? Do they work? Have you used them? Do you like them? etc. etc.....

I'm moving this over to the transportation board where you may get some more responses.

But to give my .02, these locks have a generic key that can be used to open them. That way if they need to open your luggage and search it they can without cutting your locks.

Instead of those I use the plastic break away locks (and put a few extra in my luggage.) That way if they need to get into my luggage they can break the "lock" on the score and put another one on. No damaged luggage, no lock cut.

JMHO, locks on luggage are a joke. They make the security process slower, and they may send a message to a dishonest baggage handler that there might be something there to check out...oops luggage gets lost. Further, a really sharp knife will take care of most luggage if entry is desired without the key.

I don't lock anything. But I also put nothing of any real value in checked luggage. If someone wants my pre used underwear, and such, so be it. Worst I've had happen. Luggage got soaked due to a Rainstorm. Some of my pre used underwear got wet.

We bought the TSA locks for our December trip. We have the color coded ones that let you know if TSA has inspected your luggage.

We had no inspections! We did have lost luggage! I was very glad we had locked our luggage! Our luggage arrived the next afternoon and it was not delivered by the airlines (contracted out freight company).

If you get bumped your luggage goes on without you and supposedly gets picked up by airport personnel. We have been bumped, gotten on a later flight and found our luggage unsupervised sitting next to baggage claim.

TSA agents have the ability to inspect your luggage if they want. Other folks can keep their nose out of your luggage! ;)

I like the locks! :cheer2:
