It is ok if you changed your mind. I at first thought oh no way are we paying that much to do that! After thinking about I thought well maybe it would be worth to get in early do those 3 rides and get breakfast. We still are not doing it but if we had extra money we might try it. The breakfast sounds good.
Yes, to me the issue is value vs. budget. No 7 day Disney trip ever costs less than a few thousand bucks and some much more. If you have a family of 5, it may be hard for some people to justify. When we do it, if we can truly ride the 3 attractions several times with no wish, that has value.

It's a way to generate additional money. I would doubt (but I could be wrong) if many on this board would partake in this plan............but then its not for us :)

As long as EMH are still available as they are today............I see no harm.........well unless my plans were previously determined. I could see it being bad for those folks...........but then again I don't know how big this will be o_O

We will be going on the morning they have the event :crazy2: We have a pre park reservation at BOG but plan to go to Frontierland when we are done eating. I wish I knew the number of tickets Disney has sold for the event so we have an idea how crowded it is going to be. I'm anxious to see how it goes for the ones coming up this month.

I couldn't help myself. No, I didn't make a reservation. I ran some numbers. :thumbsup2

Assumptions
  • Want to get all guests to Fantasyland by 7:45 with a 7:30 checkin start; 5 minute walk to FL; 4 guests per party; 60 seconds per party to check in
  • Ride Capacity as previously stated by other posters -- 1400/hour for 7DMT and 700/hour each for PPF and Pooh
  • Guests want to ride 7DMT twice and PPF and Pooh once each during the exclusive window (7:45-9:00) with relatively short waits; they must be in the queue for their final exclusive ride by 9:00, but not necessarily through the queue and ride; guests don't do anything but walk to, wait for, and ride these attractions
  • 3 minutes for each guest to get through the line; 10 guests in a line at any time actually gathering food (everyone beyond that waiting to get to the food)
  • Expect little to no wait for buffet line once all guests have gone through the first time (it is billed as AYCTE, so people will expect to be able to make a return trip without making family members wait for a long time)
  • Disney wants a profit margin on incremental revenue in excess of just an additional PPO breakfast, for which they would be happy with a $35 average charge (so the incremental revenue for the exclusive ride aspect is $30); it takes 5-6 CMs to operate each attraction; benefits loaded average hourly labor rate is $20; the event is held 75 times per year
Optimal Results
  • No more than 450 guests would be able to achieve the above goal if they were queued up for their final of four rides right at 9:00
  • Longest wait for each ride would be 10-15 minutes
  • It would take 10 CM's to get 450 guests checked and back to FL by 7:45 (these CMs are deployed to attractions after checkin)
  • It would take 6 buffet lines to keep the longest wait below 25 minutes and therefore allow for return trips through the buffet for all guests with minimal wait
  • The last guest off an exclusive ride through an attraction will arrive at the buffet around 9:20, have a short wait to get food, and be able to make a return trip through the buffet before it gets closed and actually enjoy their meal time
  • Disney makes about $1.0 million per year in incremental pre-tax income relative to adding a PPO breakfast
Conclusions
  • Optimal results suggest a maximum of 450 guests per event
  • The choke points in addition to ride queues are checkin and buffet lines
  • To ensure smooth operation, the capacity would have to be more limited
  • To work out kinks in the process and to ensure a favorable initial guest experience on which to build (this event and other new events like it), the capacity will probably be more limited yet -- they don't want a bunch of people talking about what a waste of time and money it was, least of all right out of the box
  • I also don't believe Disney wants or expects this event to have a significant negative impact on the experience of other guests
  • My guess (which I fully admit is a guess) is that it will initially be limited to 250 guests, or about 50-60 families, which doesn't seem any more than any other PPO breakfast, and most guests who participate will be eating the first hour after rope drop
  • I expect on that basis there will already be a 10-15 minute standby wait for these attractions at rope drop
I've mentioned before that we have a PPO BOG on 5/17 when they will have EMM. We also have a PPO BOG on another day without EMM (5/22), so I'll try to be observant on both mornings and see if there is much of a difference so I can report back.
Nice work! :thumbsup2 While my math was based on a different set of assumptions (just using a 50% generous profit margin on the expected revenue) I come up with the same annual profit generated from this event as you - just around $1 million (assuming 75 events per year). Why??? $1 million is a drop in the bucket for Disney! Makes me think they won't cap this that low, if they do keep it up. I agree with whomever said that Disney may purposefully keep the cap low to start, generate good buzz from the early adopters, and try and find that magic cap number that maximizes profit before allowing too many people whereby it affects the experience. I just can't see how they allow 1,000+ people in to start - the queues just could not handle that many people.

Eager to hear your reports! Too bad your trip falls outside of my 60 day FP+ window - in fact, it happens after the 30 day window opens to everyone else, so I'm going to have to make my plans and cross my fingers that I guess right!

Because of the breakfast, I see this event being really limited. Like someone suggested above .. 250 max. Which means it won't really make the park that much more crowded, but does make RD a bit less "useful" if there is another 250 people in the park before it officially opens.

Haven't heard anyone mention it, and I don't imagine anyone knows, but I'm almost positive I looked at waits during parties, so I don't know why this would be different. Would be fun to be a virtual stalker those days and see what it's like!

I'll have to be content with "virtual stalking" until I can do some actual stalking on 5/17. :smokin:

Won't the virtual stalkers be the numerous Disney Bloggers who certainly will partake?

The issue is that parties offer a bunch of non-ride stuff to do (special characters, shows, parade, fireworks). A lot of people at a hard ticket party only go for those things. That's not the case with either the before hours or after hours events. Capping tickets at a reasonable level is the only thing that can keep the waits down.

Absolutely agree. I was just commenting as to whether MDE displays wait times during parties or will during this event, that way we armchair quarterbacks can have a peek at the action. Do you know whether wait times are shown during parties?

Got it. And sorry, I don't know if it does. I'm sure someone around here has checked though and will chime in for an answer.

Did you happen to check for wait times posted in MDE during the event? Sounds like the crowd was so light they probably didn't bother.

Totally forgot to. I was looking at Facebook, Twitter and here looking for live info.

From reports I've seen on the event this morning it was walk on with very little people there.

Pretty funny that Josh and his commenters think eating at 8:30 is pretty insane, but Kenny ate then and thinks it was a good idea.
I guess it depends on when you get up.

Just a friendly reminder for those thinking this is another great way to get in line early for Anne and Elisa:
They are scheduled to leave MK in late May. Exactly when they leave seems to be related to when FEA opens.
