Okay, not to start a debate about tanning and how the sun is bad for you (please, I see a dermo every six months and use sunscreen), I'm just wondering what people use to tan....indoor tanning or outdoor tanning.....anyone willing to answer this and not fearing the flame?! :grouphug:

I go to tanning salon once a year for about 4-6 weeks to get my base tan for the summer. Mother's Day gift each year. I know it's not good for you, but neither are a lot of other things that people do.....

I use the sun. Sometimes I use sunscreen, if it's especially strong. Most of the time I use nothing.

I have been tan since 1978......I use baby oil or Helix

yes, I am a TANAHOLIC

Once in awhile, I use L'Oreal Sublime Bronze to get a little bit of color. But I usually don't use anything, nor do I try to tan in the sun.

I've chosen not to due to the health factor, but also because I think we should be happy with our natural skin color. I'm an extremely fair skinned person who has never been able to tan, and I get really sick of people telling me I need to get some sun, or asking me if I'm sick cause I'm so pale. So I am rebelling, and I've figure out that I am beautiful without a tan.

you go girl!

my inlaws always make fun of my whiteness, eventhough they know i've had skin cancer.

I indoor tan spring- fall. Will tan outdoors on vacation and use SPF 4 or 8.

I burn easily unless I have a base tan. I like to wear skirts in the summer in an office setting and I like to have a somewhat tan leg.

I usually go to tanning salons just because I have no patience for the sun. I use Swedish Beauty Browning Syrup.

Went to a tanning salon this past year for the first time ever because I was going to Disney in August and I burn easily without a base tan (despite sunscreen.) Burned a little bit at the salon because they didn't explain it well, but other than that I found that I liked the experience and would probably do it again. In moderation I have no problem with it.

I use Banana Boat spf 2 or 4 depending how dark I am at the moment.

I can't get a for real tan. I've also had skin cancer and even if I didn't, I just turn into a big freckle anyways. But I've had great results with the Mystic tan spray on one. Definitely getting one before our cruise this summer!

I use a good self-tanner or bronzer. I've heard about the Mystic tan and would LOVE to try it!

Bath and Body Works makes a GREAT self tanner. No orange and no lines. Very smooth and compared to the others I've tried (Prescriptives, Estee Lauder, etc) very economical. Don't get the tanning cloths though - my boss got those and they streaked. Get the tubes - one for your face and one for your body.

I did try this, and it was extremely expensive, doesn't last long, and you can't get in the pool or it will come off. Also, the Mystic is orangy. I tried the "hilton head" brand and it didn't orange me, but still the same short term effect for lots of $$$.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I'll be sticking to my at-home treatments!

Mine was only $12 and each time I've done it (3-4 times) I've gotten a great bronzey color (my mom got mad at me for tanning and didn't believe it was fake). It also lasted 2 weeks at least and absolutely did not come off in the pool (I was in Hawaii with it and in and out of the pool all day). I always exfoliated before going in like they recommend which is supposed to help longevity. I've heard that some places mix there own formula and do not use the actual Mystic stuff, maybe that explains your experience. I did get better results at one salon over another. But neither was ever bad or fake looking.

I don't tan in the sun, I fry like bacon. Sometimes I use a sunless tanning lotion but that's it.

I love the Neutrogena self-tanning lotion. Exfoliate first and no speckling, lines, orange, etc.

To whoever said they are tired of people asking if they are sick, etc. I get that all the time from strangers. It is all I can do not to tell them I have some terminal disease, just to teach them a lesson.

I Intrigue You--Thanks for the Desparate Housewife link in your sig....this is me:
