What Do You Remember As A Child From WDW?

Wow.... I love this thread. I have three distinct memories from my first trip in December 1974.

#1. The haunted mansion..... I got separated momentarily from my Mom just as the lights went out (in the stretching room).... the lights went back on and I was facing a CM... scary looking lady in a costume!! YIKES!! I was terrified.

2. Seeing the almost completed Space Mountain.... what a rip off that we wouldn't be able to ride it! (I knew it would be a LOOOOONG time before I returned to WDW).

3. We stayed at the Contemporary. We went to a lower floor to watch the Water parade at night (don't know what it was called) and we were sitting in some sort of arcade area. There was a tv on and I noticed that "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" was on. I never missed that show.... so I think I watched the tv instead of the parade!!

My grandparents had visited WDW several times previously and not being be "riders" they had saved most of their tickets (especially the "E"s) and my DB and I were able to use them all! We have color home movies (alas no sound) of this visit. They are treasured. DM had them transferred to VHS about 15 year ago. They are great to watch. Dad filmed from the Skyway.... also filmed the parade. I love to watch that video.... so do my kids! And I still have my autograph book!!!.........................P

early 1970s
Mom took my 2 brothers and myself on a bus ride from MA to FL so we could go to WDW

I remember seeing Goofy skiing.

I remember sitting on my dad's shoulders while watching the light parade (I think it was Main Street Electrical) and when he put me down my legs were asleep and it was the weirdest feeling.

I remember going to MGM shortly after it opened, watching the parade and Rosemary Clooney was the guest of honor but all I took pictures of was Pluto with Rosemary Clooney in the background! LOL!

I remember riding the monorail. :)

I also remember when you walked from the parking lot to the Magic Kingdom. And riding the monorail and seeing all the topiary figures from it. I really miss those...:(

Forgot..I also remember Mickey's Birthday Land...is that the right name?

Yes! Then it was Mickey's Star Land after his birthday celebration passed and there was Disney Afternoon show in the park.

:D

I remember jumping into my father's arms when the lights go out when your in the room before you get on the Doom Buggies at the Haunted Mansion. I remember bawling on Thunder Mountain. I was a scaredy cat, but my excuse is that I was 4 at the time. I also remember seeing all of the characters and thinking they were real and just having a great time.

I remember the "E" ticket. I also remember thinking in the Haunted Mansion that red lady at the end of the ride was going to follow me out!

Space Mountain and boy did it seem scary to me way back then!!

going there while on vacation in Fort Lauderdale and it was the fist year the Magic Kingdom was open. It was Lovebug time..they were everywhere..and I didn't want to get out of the car!

My Dad didn't come, it was myself, my Mum, sister and her daughter. My Mum bought me a gold Disney charm on a chain...just Mickey's head.

Long time ago...but special memories. I always wanted to take my Mum back and stay in a beautiful resort with her so she could see how it had changed but I never did...and now it's too late.I will always hold it dear to my heart though because she walked through those gates with me first.

i remember all teh publicity when it opened up and really bad wanting to go see mickey and his new house, but my parents never tok vacations away from home, vacation was work on our place time, and still is to them. my first trip to wdw was in 2003 at 36, and we went for the fourth of july:) one year ago right now i was driving across north fla . or else stopped in talla hassee on way into jax to get sis in law who was going to wdw with us:)

I remember that I loved the Haunted Mansion, and seeing the ghost sitting with you at the end of the ride; I remember getting sooooo dizzy on the teacups - come to think of it I have not been on that since then and plan to keep it that way. That ride is going to be a father/son experience next year...and I loved River country. This was 25 (GASP!) years ago and we thought that water park was the greatest thing. Especially the tube ride!

I remember beign their with my grandparents...some of m most vivid memories of them are from that trip when i was 4 years old.

I remember riding Imagination and LOVING figment

And I remember being terrified of Magic Journeys in Fantasyland..that was messed up!
