What Do You Make For Your Vacation?

 Ok, I am so aggravated right now and need some help and specific directions! I am captivated by all of the cute DISigns that I am seeing and wanted to try to make a few things for my kiddos. I thought I would start with the countdown calendar but need to modify the one I found. I thought I understood that I could upload it into Microsoft word and make the changes I wanted. I have been sitting here for about 45 minutes trying to figure out how to do that. GRRRRRR Can anyone give me the "idiot" instructions please?

I thought the calendar was going to be easy compared to making autograph books, invitations, t-shirts and luggage tags! Humph!

Do me a favor and ask this on the "How to DISign using MS Word" thread. If you can post a link to what you are trying to modify and let me know the changes you are trying to make. Here is a link to that thread "How to DISign..." thread:

I haven't posted anything new in a while to make for your trip...so here is something new!!! If you are traveling as a group with your family (or friends)...take some time before hand and track down some "cherished family recipes" and make recipe books for all of the families that will be traveling with you. Maybe you will be staying in a condo and different families will be responsible for meals while you are there...you could get each of them to make up recipe cards for their meal so that if other families like it...they can make it once they return home from the trip! Just an idea...

I have blank disney recipe cards that I made as well as a few that I added some recipes to in my 4shared file.

I love this thread too! 2 questions...
What exactly have you put into the candy pockets?
Where is the link for the little wrappers that go on small candy bars and kisses? the link on first page doesn't have anything in the 4shared folder anymore.

It just amazes me how talented people are to come up with this stuff! And more than that.. to share it with everyone! Thank You :thanks: Thank You!

1. Candy pockets. Depending on the size...you can put almost anything from individual breath mints to m&m's to gold fish. The list is endless depending on how big you make them.

2. You are right...Telynn's link isn't working anymore to her 4shared file and she had the cutest things!!!! I'm in shock because I loved her things and I'm thinking of all the things that are no longer available and I didn't save. I just looked in her file not too long ago and it was working. I hate that they are no longer available!!! She is the one that had the cute characters for nugget candy bar wrappers and gum. Hopefully it will work again...

BUT you can find nugget wrappers in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1787936&highlight=nugget

OK, my turn to spread a little planning pixie dust.

I have created some planning cards/pages for those OCD planners out there (you know who you are!;)).

You can find the thread here. Feel free to PM me or post requests to this thread. I usually send requests out twice a week.

Thanx for such a great thread!
:)

Here is something that I don't think has been mentioned...GIFT BASKETS/PAILS/BAGS!

Here is a thread with pictures of gift baskets made by Shirley for disney cruises...I bet you will find some cute ideas for putting one together yourself!:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1723220

Here are a few things that I came up with to put in the baskets when another poster wanted things for adults. She already had sunscreen, sunglasses, disney things from the dollar stores, candy bars and candy with disney wrappers:

  • Water bottles with cute disney wrappers. Most adults love to have some water on the night stand at night.
  • For a funny gift...a cute mickey head cut out with a funny saying and a packet of aspirin attached. Yes Disney is absolutely wonderful!!! But after a long day at the park...you and the other adults traveling in your group may need a little something for the aching back, feet, muscles or head.
  • I went with 4 families and each set of adults had their own "date night" planned and the other families took care of the kids for that night. If you are able to have "date nights" with your group. Maybe you could have the small individual bottles of wine or champaigne and plastic wine/champaigne glasses.
  • I always love travel kits. Check out my travel thread for some ideas on what to put in one. It also has great printable games that you could include in with family baskets. They are fun for car, plane or train rides and just hanging out in the hotel room!: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2191711
  • Put a pack of playing cards and print a few card games on them to give families something to do in their rooms. Or you can find disney playing cards at the dollar stores for old made, snap, etc.
  • maybe come up with a fun resort/hotel scavenger hunt list. Then if there is a mom and dad (or two adults) in the room...one of the adults can take the kids on a scavenger hunt around the resort and the other adult can get a break! Put things like rubber band, paper clip, piece of paper, stick of gum, something with mickey (have several different characters for them to find) on it, ...
  • Okay got off track...adults...hummm... Small flashlights for their backpacks. They come in handy when you are at the parks late for parades or just an evening in the park. I used mine a lot to find things in my backpack or to just light the way.
  • Glow sticks, glow necklace/bracelets. I got them just for the kids in our group for the evening parades and the adults all wanted them too.
  • rain ponchos...they aren't just for bad weather! You can get them for $1.00 at the dollar stores, they come in small packets that don't take up a lot of space and they are great for staying somewhat dry on wet rides.
  • small bottles of hand sanitizer and/or handy wipes...unless you have a baby...you don't always think to carry around packets of wipes. Hand sanitizer is nice, but if your hands have dirt on them...it just moves it around. Wipes will get it off!
  • if money is no object...have a towel, bathrobe or golf shirt monogrammed or have disney character embroidered on it.
  • add a pillowcase cover with a DISBoard DISign on it or have a disney character embroidered on. Or get a baby/travel pillow...you know the kind they have on airplanes...and add a disney pillowcase to it. They are fun for traveling or for having characters autograph them! You can find embroidered disney pillowcase covers on ebay.
  • for the younger kids...put some bath toys in their basket! It is always nice to have something for them to play with in the tub!

This has probably already been mentioned in this thread...but travel planners are a wonderful way to organize your travels and days at the parks. Here are some threads that I have run across that have pictures of planners, pages that you can use, artwork for dividers, etc.

Here is something that I don't think has been mentioned...GIFT BASKETS!

Dolly! Thank you for reminding me about the gift basket idea! I totally forgot I wanted to do that! You can spend hundreds of dollars on the premade ones that are delivered for you, so I feel like I can spend a little on this and it still won't be as bad. Oh, I so didn't need one more thing to do today, but I think I will start on this!

My trip is coming up in 3 weeks and here's a little sample of the "goodies" I've made for it...

Thanks for posting pics! It is always great to see what others are making. I especially love how you took my aspirin idea and made it a reality!!! Too cute! The saying is perfect!

I loved them so much I made a pouch and tent for aspirin. You can find them in my 4shared file in the link in my signature. Then look in the "Candy Wrappers" file and "Miscellaneous Wrappers"

what did you use to make the labels for the Hand sanitizer?

I just used word on my computer and copy and pasted clipart from
http://disney-clipart.com/Disney-Character-Clipart.php
and added text.
I measured the size of the lable already on the hand sanitizer and just adjusted the pasted art and txt accordingly, printed on whtie paper, trimmed to fit and taped over it with clear packing tape.
Hope that helps
:thumbsup2

yes maam it does. I found some HSM and HM hand sanitizer on clearance at HEB for my girls stocking but was not sure what to do for DH. How I know how to fix his.

jkuglin decided that she would recreate "Mickey's Grand Welcome"
here is her original thread with more ideas and PICTURES!:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2342599

TO GET YOU STARTED:
Here is a link to the original which is $300.00. You can also click on the tabs to get ideas for Birthday room surprises and wedding/anniversary room surprises:
http://www.ftdfloristsonline.com/waltdisneyworldflorist/pages/magicalwelcomes/display

I think you can recreate this for $25-100...depending on what you buy/make. This is what it says online that they do:
Mickey Mouse heard you were coming and so he slipped into your room to leave a special surprise! As soon as you step into your room, you see his footprints leading the way to the bed where a 15" Mickey and Minnie plush pair, a personalized blanket, and a Mickey Mouse-themed welcome package wait for you. Up high, a celebrate banner hangs from the wall. Plus, there's also a colorful Mickey & Friends jumbo balloon waiting in the room. (Please note: Guests of Disney's Animal Kingdom will receive a canvas Disney tote in place of the balloon bouquet, for the protection of the animals.) And look! There’s even a Welcome krispie treat arrangement in a popcorn tin set on the table, along with a personalized welcome note in a Disney character frame and an autograph book signed by Mickey Mouse himself! And, if you take a peek around, you’ll find Tinker Bell’s shadow; she’s come to sprinkle Pixie Dust on you! All of this is not only there for you to enjoy – every piece is meant for you to take home!

Welcome Gift Box
• Inside the large, Mickey Mouse-themed gift box on the bed, several goodies await.
• A pair of Mickey Mouse mitts holds a special “Hidden Mickey” book so you and your group can enjoy a secret hunt around the Disney theme parks.
• Mickey Mouse has also left behind a photo album so that you have a place to keep snapshots of your treasured moments together.

Here are some other "ideas" for a spin on a "welcome gift":

Create a Fairy Tale – Step into a fairytale and surprise your Princess with a glass slipper and tiara.

Enchanting – By royal decree, you proclaim your darling a real-life Princess and leave her a princess outfit with tiara and slippers. Or for a son, you can leave a pirate outfit or another Disney costume from a character that he loves. Make it something that will fit and double as a halloween costume so that you can get some use out of it!

Here are a few things to get you started:
jkuglin found this disney banner that Disney will allow you to download for free from their website. You will be downloading a PDF and you will need to highlight the letter on the flag and change it to the letter you want to print. There are two styles of flags and you can use them to spell out your child's name or your family name and then hang it on the wall of your hotel:
http://tv.disney.go.com/playhouse/grown-ups/celebrationcenter/decorations/mmch/index.html

I also made a "happy birthday" and "welcome" banner and you can find them along with gift tags from Mickey and all of his gang along with balloons and a lot of other things in my 4shared file in the link in my signature then look in the "mickey grand welcome" file.

Mickey Footprint...You will need to make several of these. Then trim them out and place them to look like Mickey walking into the room. You might consider laminating them so that they won't get ruined on your trip to the World:

MickeyFootprint2.jpg

To save on ink...here is one that you can print on yellow cardstock and then trim out. This uses very little ink!!!
MickeyFootprintBlank.jpg

Tink's Shadow...You could trim this out, tape it on the wall, put some gifts below it and sprinkle fairy dust on the gifts. Hobby Lobby has glitter in the arts and crafts section that is actually called fairy dust. It has round glitter and stars. Also, you might consider laminating the Tink Shadow so that the wand doesn't get bent on the trip to Disney. Or even better...you could put this on a window cling and adhere it to the window in your room!:

TinkShadow2.jpg

Here is a note from Mickey that you can stick in a picture frame and put it beside the bed, or with the box/bag/basket. I left space for you to insert a textbox with either your child(ren)'s name(s) or your family name. Mickey would say "Gosh Smith Family,":

MickeyWelcomeLetter.jpg

Here is a letter if it is a birthday surprise:

MickeyBirthdayLetter.jpg

Here is an oversized gift tag if someone can use it for their surprise. I used Natalie's scrapbook paper for the background...but changed the coloring:

GiftTagMickeyWelcome.jpg

Now...if you can make an autograph book without your kids seeing...you can add that to the box. Then grab a bunch of Disney things fromt the dollar stores...Dollar Tree has a TON of Disney things and everything is $1.00! Add a t-shirt or two that you made and a pillowcase cover!

Here is what Disney does for the "Birthday Surprise", but you could use these ideas for a welcome as well by leaving each of these gifts or a similar gift from each character:

Imagine stepping into your resort room and discovering that Mickey Mouse and the gang have left you a personalized Birthday Surprise! All around the room, large, colorful packages have your name on them; themed to Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and Pluto, these presents create a festive environment! On the wall hangs a bright Birthday Banner and there's also a colorful Mickey singing balloon awaiting the birthday recipient. (Please note: Guests of Disney's Animal Kingdom will receive a canvas Disney tote in place of the balloon, for the protection of the animals.) There’s even an Autograph Book on the table, signed to you by Mickey Mouse himself. And if you take a peek around, you’ll find Tinker Bell's shadow; she’s come by to sprinkle Pixie Dust on you! All of this is not only there for you to enjoy – every piece is meant for you to take home!

Mickey Mouse's Birthday Present
• This 15” box sits on the bed with a large, 15-inch Mickey Mouse plush beside it. Around his neck is a Light-Up Lanyard for the Birthday person to wear. It says, “It's My Birthday!”
• Mickey Mouse Ears embroidered with the Birthday person’s name.
• Mickey Mouse and the Gang Picture Frame which includes a personalized message from Mickey Mouse.

Minnie Mouse's Birthday Present
• Minnie Mouse's pretty package sits on the table waiting for you.
• Open the lid and find a smaller golden box nestled inside – inside that is a decorative, chocolate, Candy “Cake” that Minnie Mouse has made just for you!

Donald Duck's Birthday Present
• This box sits on the other bed and is full of Donald Duck's gifts just for you.
• Donald's choices are "quacky" and lots of fun!
• And, to top it off, you'll know Donald was there by the white feathers he left behind!

Goofy's Birthday Present
• Inside Goofy's box is the resort room phone; if you call the number on the card attached, you’ll hear Goofy sing his Birthday wish to you!
• The gifts in his box include sweet keepsakes of "Goofy" memories!

Pluto's Birthday Present
• Pluto's a puppy who’s taken care of this party’s hunger!
• Inside his box are delightful treats specially chosen by Pluto himself including dog-bone-shaped Krispy bars for "people" placed in an adorable dog bowl, and set on a Pluto placemat!
• Pluto is big on dog collars, so he thought a nice surprise would also be a "human collar" (a Disney lanyard that includes a starter pin set!)

Each box is the character's colors and has a small toy hanging off the ribbon. So Mickey's box is red with a yellow top and a black bow. Donald's is blue with a white top a yellow bow. Goofy's is a black box with a blue top and an orange bow. Minnie's is a red box with black top and a red and white polka dot bow. You get the idea...

Here is a picture that I found of the gifts...and there are a few more on this thread:
