Have you used Capstar flea control? Can you tell me about it? My vet hasn't really heard of it - he recommends Frontline, which I use, but I just adopted a kitten and that is what Riley was given at the shelter. I am having a problem with fleas this year, and was wondering if this might be something to look into. (I have 2 dogs and 5 indoor cats and this is the first year that I have had a problem with fleas - in the past Frontline has always worked perfectly.)
So, anyone know anything about Capstar? Thanks!

Capstar is a "get them off" product that can be given to dogs and cats and
usually within 20-30 minutes you can see the fleas bailing out. It does not have a residual effect.
Comfortis is a once a month pill for dogs only (over 14 weeks) that has to be
given with a meal. It has been working wonderfully for our clients (and my dogs) and is particularly good for flea allergic dogs. If you have a tick problem you can still use Frontline with it (but it is contraindicated with Ivermectin usage).

So Capstar is not a once-a-month type of flea product? Shoot - I was hoping to find something that would work as well as the frontline did in the past. They are not covered in fleas, and I am the only one (in a family of 4) that ever seems to get bit in the house by any, but it is driving me crazy that we have a problem.
Anyone else have any experience with this product?

we used capstar a cpl of weeks ago and it worked great ! We normally use frontline once a month, but for some reason we had a breakout this summer. I was really happy with the results and the animals didnt get sick, i was worried about that because my cats throw up anytime they eat something strange.

Haven't used Capstar, but may try it if it works! I see you are not far from us, and we are having a bad year with fleas, too. We haven't had a problem in over 10 years, but this year is tough. I used one of the OTC 30 day stripe on products and it really didn't work at all. I flea bombed the house last week, gave the dog a flea bath and this week I am finding fleas on her again. It's time to do the 30 day treatment again and I'm looking for something that will work!

I only use capstar on my dogs if we are going "out" somewhere like the dog park. I do not use and flea meds on my dogs, instead I treat my yard. I use Talstar which kills fleas for up to 3 mths, i use it about every 6 weeks and I have no fleas.

capstar isnt a long term thing.. its just to kill the fleas fast, gotta use frontline or advantix ( sp?) to keep them away long term.

I used the capstar just to kill the things immediatly and then put on the frontline too, vet said it was fine to do that.

I had house bombed 6 weeks ago and last night we get home from disney and have a house FULL of fleas. LMAO BUT at least the cats seem to be flea free .. guess that front line is working ; )
Terminex is coming tomorrow!

Capstar only works for 24 hours. But it is a wonder drug!!!

You have to bomb, wait 2 weeks then bomb again. Bombing only kills the live fleas, not the eggs. You have to wait 2 weeks for the eggs to hatch, then bomb them and you shouldnt have any more problems. Also buy some flea collars, cut them into pieces and put them un der furniture (away from dogs and cats and kids ) and in your vaccum cleaner. HTH

My vet told me I could use Frontline every 2 weeks if necessary, but I hate to do that. I guess I will have to do the Capstar, use the frontline and then bomb the house. Or at least give them all baths and then use frontline and bomb the house, then bomb again in two weeks... uggh....
Yes, the fleas are terrible here in the tristate area - my vet has told me that lots of people are complaining about that this year.
